MSI’s Claw walkthrough says you can open the MSI Center M homepage, select a gaming platform, sign in, and download a game. MSI also states that users can play Windows PC games and Android mobile games through MSI App Player. In MSI’s words: “Not only can you play games from the Windows PC platform, but you can also enjoy Android mobile games on your PC.” That is a description of the available platforms, not a certification that every individual game is compatible.

A Windows Central review of the Claw 8 AI+ reports that its unit opened Steam, Ubisoft Connect, the Xbox app, Epic Games, Battle.net, and other launchers. This flexibility is one of the Claw’s main advantages over a console with a fixed storefront. It also means you may need to manage several launcher interfaces, account sign-ins, update systems, and game-specific settings.
Why one game works and another does not
- Launcher requirements: A title may require a separate publisher launcher, an account link, or an online authentication step.
- Controller support: Games designed around keyboard and mouse may need in-game remapping, a controller profile, or an external keyboard for menus.
- Anti-cheat: Kernel-level or online anti-cheat systems can behave differently on handheld Windows hardware and may require the game’s current support policy.
- Performance: Resolution, graphics presets, frame-rate targets, power mode, and thermal limits determine whether a game is merely launchable or comfortably playable.
- Updates: A game or launcher update can change compatibility without any change to the Claw itself.

You are not limited to one store or one publisher’s catalog. Steam, Ubisoft Connect, the Xbox app, Epic Games, Battle.net, and other launchers can be installed when their requirements are met. The trade-off is that each service has its own login, update process, cloud-save behavior, controller handling, and overlay. Troubleshooting a game may involve the launcher, Windows, the game’s files, or anti-cheat rather than MSI hardware alone.
Installing a Windows game with MSI’s documented workflow
- Open the MSI Center M homepage on the Claw.
- Select the gaming platform you want to use.
- Sign in to that platform account.
- Choose the game and download it through the platform’s interface.
- Launch the game from the platform and configure controls and graphics for the handheld.
The same general approach applies when a publisher requires its own launcher. Keep the launcher and game updated, because compatibility can change after updates.
How long does the MSI Claw battery last?
There is no single runtime figure for “the MSI Claw.” Battery capacity and real-world play time vary by model, game, power mode, brightness, and other system settings. MSI lists a 53 Wh battery for the original Claw A1M and an 80 Wh battery for the Claw A8. Those are electrical capacities, not guaranteed hours of play.

That is reviewer evidence from one unit and workload, not a controlled cross-model benchmark or a promise for every Claw. Less demanding games, a lower power limit, reduced brightness, and lighter Windows use can extend runtime; demanding games and higher power settings can reduce it.

MSI’s product pages likewise note that battery life varies with system configuration. Do not rank generations by watt-hours alone: display settings, processor behavior, game load, firmware, Windows activity, and power mode all affect the energy used per hour.
Battery settings MSI recommends
MSI’s guide says Battery Master can set a charge limit. This is useful if the Claw spends most of its time connected to a charger, because it avoids keeping the battery at a full charge continuously. The guide also recommends running Battery Calibration every three months to maintain battery performance and health. MSI does not specify a guaranteed number of extra minutes that calibration will provide, so treat it as maintenance rather than a runtime upgrade.
- Open MSI’s battery controls and use Battery Master to choose a charge limit when the device is usually plugged in.
- Run Battery Calibration on the three-month schedule recommended in MSI’s guide.
- For longer unplugged sessions, lower the game’s power demand before lowering expectations: use a less demanding graphics preset, a lower frame-rate target, or a lower power mode.
- Compare runtime only when the game, brightness, frame-rate target, and power mode are similar.
Can I put a microSD card in an MSI Claw?
Most Claw models have a memory-card reader, but the standard is not the same across generations. Identify the exact model before buying a card. MSI lists an SD4.0 reader for the original A1M, a microSD card reader for the Claw A8, and a microSD Express reader for the Claw 8 EX AI+.

Choosing a card without assuming cross-generation compatibility
Do not apply the Claw 8 EX AI+’s 600–800 MB/s claim to an A1M or A8. The claim belongs specifically to the EX AI+ and its microSD Express reader. Likewise, the available information does not establish a maximum microSD capacity for each Claw, or prove that every microSD Express and older card type works interchangeably in every generation.

- Read the model name on the device, packaging, or MSI system information.
- Check that model’s current MSI specification or manual for the reader standard.
- Match the card standard to the reader instead of choosing solely by advertised speed.
- Confirm the card’s capacity is supported by the documentation for your exact model; a universal maximum is not established here.
- After insertion, format the card in Windows if prompted, then assign it as a game-install location through the relevant launcher.
A card is most useful for expanding game storage, but it may not deliver the same loading behavior as the Claw’s internal drive. Performance depends on the card, reader standard, game-file pattern, and launcher.

The game will not install
Verify that you are signed in to the correct platform, that the required launcher is installed, and that enough internal or card storage is available. If the platform is not listed in your preferred workflow, install its Windows client and check its own requirements.

The game launches but controls are wrong
Look for the game’s controller settings and confirm that it recognizes a gamepad rather than expecting keyboard and mouse input. Some menus may still be easier with an external keyboard or pointer device.
An online game blocks launch
Check the title’s current anti-cheat and Windows handheld policy. An anti-cheat restriction is a game-support issue, not proof that the Claw cannot run Windows games generally.
The battery drains faster than expected
Compare power mode, brightness, frame-rate target, graphics load, and background launcher activity with another test. A demanding title can consume substantially more power than lighter games. Use Battery Master and the calibration schedule described by MSI, but do not expect calibration to guarantee a fixed runtime increase.

The card is not recognized
Recheck the exact Claw model and its reader standard, reseat the card with the device powered down, and inspect Windows Disk Management for an unformatted volume. If the card standard or capacity is not documented for that model, do not assume that a different generation’s card behavior applies.
