To download a moving wallpaper, first match the file and setup method to the device and operating system you plan to use. An iPhone Live Photo, a looping video file, and a Windows desktop animation are different things: a video download, for example, may need a compatible app before it can move on screen.
Choose the right kind of moving wallpaper
“Moving wallpaper” can mean a photo that animates briefly, a video that loops, or an animation played by desktop software. Before downloading, decide where you want the motion: iPhone Lock Screen, Android wallpaper, or a computer desktop. The same file may not work the same way across devices.
- Live Photo: A still image with motion that iPhone can use as a Lock Screen wallpaper on iOS 17 or later.
- Looping video: Catalogs may offer video files such as MP4 or WebM. Whether a device can set one directly depends on its software and wallpaper picker.
- Desktop animation: On Windows, continuous animated backgrounds are commonly handled through an application rather than the standard theme workflow.
Where to download moving wallpapers
Look for a recognizable wallpaper source or an official app or catalog listing. Check the intended platform and file type before downloading; some catalogs offer still images such as PNG or WebP alongside animated MP4 or WebM files. Use a source you trust, and check its usage terms if you plan to share or reuse the artwork. Downloading a file does not by itself grant permission to redistribute it or use it commercially.

Set a Live Photo as an iPhone wallpaper
Apple’s instructions apply to iOS 17 or later. The Live Photo plays on the Lock Screen when the iPhone wakes if playback is enabled; this is not a promise of continuously moving wallpaper behind Home Screen icons. Follow Apple’s current steps in Set a Live Photo as your Lock Screen wallpaper on your iPhone.
- Open Settings, then tap Wallpaper.
- Tap Add New Wallpaper, then choose Photos and Live Photo.
- Select the Live Photo you want to use.
- Turn on the play control if you want the photo to play automatically when the phone wakes.
- Tap Add. To choose a separate Home Screen image, use Customize Home Screen.
Set a moving wallpaper on Android
Android setup varies by manufacturer, system version, launcher, and app. Some catalogs describe applying a downloaded loop through the device’s wallpaper picker; others may require a helper app. LWP.gg provides its own Android directions, including MP4 and WebM options, at How It Works. Treat those as provider instructions, then confirm the file works with your device.

- Check the catalog’s stated file type and Android setup instructions before saving a wallpaper.
- Try the device’s wallpaper picker if the catalog says the file is supported directly.
- If the picker does not accept the file, check whether the catalog recommends a compatible helper app.
- Preview the wallpaper after applying it and confirm that motion plays as expected.
A static result does not necessarily mean the download is faulty: the device may not support that format directly, or an app or conversion may be required. Windows theme customization and desktop animation are separate workflows. Microsoft’s theme and background instructions cover conventional personalization, including themes from the Microsoft Store; they do not establish a native continuous-animation workflow.

The Lively Wallpaper community wiki describes using its application to set animated desktop wallpapers and manage application-specific wallpapers and settings. Follow its current Getting Started instructions and check compatibility with your Windows version. The wiki also notes that some Lively features may not work in High Contrast mode.

LWP.gg describes setting still images through System Settings and using a helper for loops. That is catalog guidance, not proof that every macOS version natively supports continuous video wallpapers. Check the instructions for your macOS version and any helper app before downloading or installing a file.

Troubleshoot a wallpaper that will not move
- It appears as a still image: Check that the downloaded file is animated and that your device supports that motion type.
- The wallpaper picker rejects it: Confirm the file format and intended platform; a compatible app or conversion may be needed.
- It moves in the wrong place: Confirm whether the platform supports motion on the Lock Screen, Home Screen, or desktop. Apple’s Live Photo behavior described here is for the Lock Screen when the device wakes.
- It does not match the instructions: Device manufacturers, OS versions, launchers, and app updates can change setup. Use current instructions for your specific device and app.
