To move GoPro files to a phone, connect the camera in the Quik app, open its media, select files, and tap the download control. For a wired phone transfer, connect the camera and phone with a compatible data cable or adapter, then follow Quik’s prompts. To copy files to a computer, remove the camera’s microSD card and use a card reader. The exact Quik screens can vary by camera and app version.
Download GoPro files to a phone with Quik
Quik lets you browse media stored on a connected GoPro and download selected files to the app. The general wireless workflow is:

Connect your GoPro to Quik, following the camera’s pairing prompts.

Open the camera’s media in the app.

Select one file or multiple files.

Tap the download control to save the selection to Quik.

GoPro’s HERO13 instructions describe this route. Labels and controls may differ on other models or app builds; if your screen does not match, use the instructions for your camera model. Downloading to Quik is not the same as copying files directly to a computer.
Transfer to a phone over a cable
A wired connection is an alternative when you want to avoid a wireless transfer. GoPro’s HERO10 manual describes this method as faster and more reliable than wireless transfer, but does not give a measured speed. You need a cable or adapter compatible with both devices; the accessories listed in the manual are not included.

Connect the devices with the appropriate cable or adapter.

Open Quik and follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the files.
These are the configurations listed in GoPro’s HERO10 manual. Check current device and camera compatibility before buying an accessory. A cable that charges a device is not necessarily suitable for data transfer.
Copy GoPro files to a computer with a card reader
For a computer, GoPro’s HERO12 instructions describe copying files directly from the camera’s microSD card:

Turn off the camera and remove its microSD card.

Insert the card into a compatible SD card reader or adapter.

Connect the reader to the computer.

Open the card on the computer and copy the files to your chosen folder.
Choose a reader that fits both the card format and your computer’s ports. This local-copy method does not depend on a cloud subscription.
Why older Quik Desktop instructions may be outdated
Some older GoPro manuals describe connecting a camera to a computer and importing files with Quik Desktop. GoPro announced on November 7, 2024, that it was discontinuing Quik Desktop applications. The announcement said the Mac app would be removed from the App Store on December 31, 2024, and that a Windows version would not be released. For a current documented computer workflow, use a card reader rather than relying on legacy Quik Desktop directions.

GoPro’s HERO10 manual describes automatic cloud upload through Quik as a subscription feature. It says the camera should be connected to power during setup and that original files remain on the camera after backup. Subscription names, availability, terms, and regional eligibility can change, so check the current details for your location before relying on cloud upload.

Choose the transfer method that fits

Use wireless Quik transfer when you want to select camera media and download it into the phone app without connecting a cable.

Use a wired phone transfer when you have compatible ports and accessories; GoPro’s HERO10 manual characterizes this option as faster and more reliable, without publishing a speed figure.

Use a card reader for a computer when you want to copy files directly from the camera card to local storage.

Use cloud upload for backup if the applicable GoPro subscription and regional terms suit you; it is separate from making a local copy.
