The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is a compelling flip phone if you want to use a genuinely useful screen without unfolding your phone. Its 4-inch outer display, smooth performance and portrait-friendly 2× telephoto make it stand out, while inconsistent camera results, no ultrawide camera and a limited update commitment make it a less complete choice at a premium price.
Verdict: a standout cover screen, with camera and support compromises
The Razr 50 Ultra’s main advantage is practical, not merely visual: its large outer screen lets you interact with the phone while it is folded, rather than limiting you to checking notifications. It is a strong fit for people who value that convenience, the compact clamshell shape and a dedicated telephoto camera for portraits.
It is harder to recommend if you want dependable results across varied lighting, frequently shoot wide landscapes or groups, or expect a longer software-support runway. Reviews from 2024 generally praised the displays, design and battery life, but reported inconsistent color and exposure, weaker low-light photography and imperfect app optimization for the folding form. Expert Reviews, Stuff and 91mobiles tested the phone in 2024, so their assessments reflect the software and units available at that time.
What makes the Razr 50 Ultra different?
A cover display you can use while the phone is closed
The 4-inch cover screen is the phone’s defining feature. Expert Reviews lists its resolution as 1,272 × 1,080 pixels and refresh rate as 165 Hz; Stuff describes it as unusually usable. It supports a broader range of interactions than a narrow notification strip, making the closed phone more useful for everyday tasks. How well a particular app works in this folded state can still vary, and reviewers noted that some apps were not perfectly optimized for the form factor.

A telephoto camera instead of an ultrawide
The rear camera system pairs a 50-megapixel main camera with a 50-megapixel 2× telephoto. That second camera gives you a dedicated option for closer framing and portraits. The trade-off is that there is no rear ultrawide camera, so the phone is less flexible for wide landscapes and large groups. Reviewers also found color and exposure inconsistent, with weaker results in dim conditions. The inner selfie camera is 32 megapixels. Expert Reviews and 91mobiles discuss the camera setup and its limitations.
Performance, battery and charging
Everyday performance and storage
The phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor with 12 GB of RAM. Expert Reviews covered a 512 GB configuration and noted that storage is not expandable. Motorola’s specifications page lists Android 14 and the processor, memory and storage options. Motorola’s specifications page provides the manufacturer’s hardware listing. The available reviews do not establish a broad performance benchmark or sustained-gaming result, so the chip name alone should not be treated as proof of how it performs in every demanding workload.

Battery life and charging
The battery is rated at 4,000 mAh. Independent reviews list 45 W wired and 15 W wireless charging, and generally describe battery life positively, while noting that actual endurance depends on use. Motorola’s launch announcement confirms 15 W wireless and 5 W reverse charging. These are different charging capabilities: reverse charging is for powering another compatible device, not a faster way to charge the Razr. Motorola’s launch announcement gives the manufacturer’s battery and wireless-charging details.
Software support: a concrete commitment, but no exact end date
The Razr 50 Ultra launched with Android 14. Motorola promised three major Android version updates and four years of security patches, as reported by 2024 reviews. Those terms are shorter than the support offered by some leading competitors, and reviewers criticized update delivery. Motorola’s current security-update page says updates are scheduled to continue, but the captured support information does not show an exact end date. It therefore does not establish a precise final patch date or the Android version installed on any particular phone today.
