Choose Moto X if you want a compact retro arcade racer with power-ups and same-screen two-player competition. Choose Trials Rising if you want physics-based riding, more than 125 tracks, worldwide courses, online competition and a game you can keep mastering for months. For most players seeking depth and replayability, Trials Rising is the stronger choice; Moto X is the better fit for short sessions and uncomplicated couch play.
Both games are available on Nintendo Switch, so the decision is mainly about how you want a motorcycle game to feel. Moto X is built around straightforward racing and a small, clearly defined set of challenges. Trials Rising turns every jump, landing and obstacle into a precision problem, then adds a much larger progression and multiplayer ecosystem.

What kind of game is Moto X?
Moto X is a retro-style racer rooted in a game developed in 1994. Nintendo’s Switch description presents it as a direct, arcade-oriented experience rather than a large service with hundreds of unlocks. Its appeal comes from choosing a motorcycle, learning a relatively small group of tracks and racing another person locally.
Three engine classes
The Switch listing identifies 250cc, 550cc and 750cc motorcycles. That gives the game a simple sense of progression or choice without requiring a large garage-management system. Players can select the class that suits their preferred pace or skill level, then concentrate on the race itself.

Defined difficulty structure
Moto X has three skill levels. Each level lists five tracks, followed by a bonus level. The result is a deliberately bounded package: you can see the scope of the challenge, work through the levels and replay the courses to improve. The listing does not state that the bonus level contains a particular number of additional tracks, so it should not be treated as a precise total beyond the published structure.
Power-ups change the racing rhythm
Power-ups separate Moto X from a pure time-trial game. Instead of relying only on clean lines and acceleration, you also have items that can affect the race. That makes the experience more immediately arcade-like and gives a local match a competitive swing that does not depend entirely on one player executing every jump perfectly.
Split-screen couch play
Moto X supports two players locally in split screen. This is its clearest social feature: two people can sit with the same Switch setup and race directly against each other. The official product copy specifically frames the mode as a way to settle who is the better Moto X racer. There is no documented online multiplayer, ghost system or creator-sharing feature in the cited listing.

What kind of game is Trials Rising?
Trials Rising is described by Nintendo as over-the-top action and physics-bending motorcycle racing. Its central challenge is not simply reaching the finish first. You must balance the bike, control landings, clear obstacles and manage momentum through courses designed to punish imprecise inputs. Nintendo summarizes the learning curve as easy to pick up and play, challenging to master.
Physics and obstacle mastery
Ubisoft’s feature material emphasizes careful course balancing, jumps, obstacles and checkpoints. A successful run depends on how the motorcycle contacts the terrain, how much speed you carry and whether you recover after a mistake. This structure makes repeated attempts meaningful: a failed landing identifies a specific part of the course to practice rather than merely proving that you were slower than another rider.

More than 125 published tracks
Trials Rising advertises more than 125 new tracks, a dramatically larger published course base than Moto X’s listed three-level structure. The number matters because it changes how the game is consumed. You can move through a long sequence of locations and challenges instead of exhausting a small set of tracks quickly, while still returning to earlier courses to improve your performance.
Worldwide locations
The courses travel well beyond a single motocross setting. Ubisoft names Yellowstone National Park, the Eiffel Tower, Pripyat, Egypt’s Valley of the Kings and Mount Everest among the locations. These settings provide visual variety and let the game frame motorcycle obstacles as a tour of recognizable places rather than a repeated stadium circuit.
Ghosts, customization and community content
Trials Rising adds asynchronous competition through ghost riders. You can race against another player’s recorded performance without needing both people online at the same time, making improvement measurable even during a solo session. Ubisoft also describes customization, community sharing of gear and skins, and rewards when other players use those creations. Those systems extend the game beyond its original track list, although the cited material does not promise a specific quantity or quality level for user-made content.
How the two games differ in moment-to-moment play
Arcade immediacy versus precision control
Moto X is the easier choice when you want a race to start quickly and remain readable. Its power-ups, engine classes and compact track structure point toward short, replayable contests. You can focus on overtaking, using an item at the right moment and learning the basic layout of a course.
Trials Rising asks you to treat the motorcycle almost like a physics instrument. A jump is not complete when the bike leaves the ground; the landing angle and throttle control determine whether you continue cleanly or crash. That precision creates a steeper mastery curve, but it also gives skilled players more ways to improve a run.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Fixed scope versus extensive progression
Moto X’s published structure is useful for players who prefer a game with visible boundaries. Three skill levels and five tracks per level give you a clear checklist, while the bonus level adds an extra target. Trials Rising is better suited to players who want a long progression path, because its more-than-125-track base and additional community features provide substantially more material to learn.

Power-ups make Moto X races less strictly deterministic. A player who is behind can potentially change the contest with a well-timed item, which is valuable in a casual two-player session. Trials Rising’s documented features instead center on balancing, obstacles, checkpoints and ghosts. The emphasis is on executing a route consistently and comparing performance, not on swinging a race with a pickup.
Multiplayer: which game is better with other people?
Moto X for two-person local races
Moto X supports up to two players in local split screen. It is a strong fit when one friend or family member is sitting beside you and you want an uncomplicated head-to-head race. Because the game is compact and uses power-ups, it can work well for a series of quick matches rather than a long competitive season.
Trials Rising for larger groups and online play
Trials Rising supports local multiplayer for two to four players and online multiplayer for two to eight players according to the Xbox listing. That gives it a broader range of group sizes than Moto X. The game also supports local tandem-bike co-op, in which riders share control of a motorcycle, creating a cooperative challenge rather than a conventional race.
Ghost competition when schedules do not match
Ghosts are especially useful when your friends are not available simultaneously. You can attempt to beat a recorded ride, compare your line and retry without coordinating a live session. This asynchronous layer is absent from Moto X’s documented feature set and is one reason Trials Rising remains engaging for solo players who still want a competitive target.

Community-created identity
Trials Rising lets players share gear and skins, and Ubisoft says creators receive rewards when other players use those creations. That feature gives the multiplayer ecosystem a creative component in addition to racing. Moto X’s listed multiplayer is more focused: choose a motorcycle, enter split screen and compete locally.
Nintendo Switch considerations
Both games have Nintendo Switch editions, so neither requires you to change platforms to access the basic comparison. Moto X’s Switch listing gives a release date of October 16, 2026. Trials Rising launched on Switch as part of its wider release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC; the Xbox listing records its release date as February 26, 2019.
The platform choice therefore does not settle the question by itself. If you primarily play handheld or want a small local game for a two-person session, Moto X’s limited structure may be an advantage. If you expect to play repeatedly, work through a large course library or connect with more than one other player, Trials Rising’s broader feature set is more relevant.
Other verified platforms for Trials Rising
Trials Rising is also listed for PlayStation 4 and PC, as well as Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and cloud play. The available Xbox information specifies local multiplayer for two to four players and online multiplayer for two to eight players. Those platform listings confirm availability, but they do not establish that every feature has identical performance or interface details on every system.

Pick Moto X for a quick couch challenge
When the goal is a short race with one nearby opponent, Moto X has the cleaner proposition. Its local split-screen mode, power-ups and bounded track structure reduce setup and make it easy to play a few rounds. The trade-off is that the documented content and multiplayer options are much narrower.

Pick Trials Rising for a long-term main game
When you want one motocross game to keep learning, Trials Rising has the stronger case. The combination of more than 125 tracks, physics-driven obstacles, ghosts, online play and community features creates more ways to spend time with it. Its difficulty is part of the appeal, but players seeking only relaxed arcade racing may find that precision requirement less welcoming.
Common questions before buying
Is Moto X newer than Trials Rising?
The dates describe different things. Trials Rising is the modern 2019 release, dated February 26, 2019 in the Xbox listing. Moto X is identified by Nintendo as a game developed in 1994, while its Nintendo Switch listing carries a release date of October 16, 2026. Moto X is therefore a newly listed Switch release of a game rooted in an older design era, not a newer design in the same sense as Trials Rising.
Does Moto X have more tracks than Trials Rising?
No. Moto X lists five tracks at each of three skill levels plus a bonus level. Trials Rising advertises more than 125 tracks before considering creator and community content. The published figures make Trials Rising the much larger game for course variety.
Can you play either game online?
The cited Moto X Switch listing documents local split-screen play for up to two players and does not list online multiplayer. Trials Rising is documented with online multiplayer for two to eight players, along with ghosts and local multiplayer for two to four.
Which is easier to learn?
Moto X is likely the gentler introduction if you want straightforward arcade racing, power-ups and a limited set of tracks. Trials Rising is described as easy to pick up but challenging to master: basic riding is accessible, while consistent control through advanced obstacles demands practice. That distinction makes Trials Rising approachable at the start without making its later challenges simple.
Does Trials Rising include more than standard races?
Yes. Its documented features include obstacle-focused physics courses, checkpoints, asynchronous ghost competition, local tandem-bike co-op, online multiplayer, customization and community sharing of gear and skins. These systems give it a broader activity range than the two-player split-screen racing listed for Moto X.
Final recommendation
For a buyer choosing only one, Trials Rising is the better all-purpose motocross game. Its more-than-125-track library, worldwide settings, physics-based mastery and wider multiplayer support provide substantially more depth and replayability. Select Moto X instead when the priority is a compact retro experience, power-ups and immediate two-player split-screen racing on Nintendo Switch.
