These are India-market 5G phones. Motorola notes that specifications may vary by market, so confirm the exact model code and retail variant before applying a specification to a particular handset. Motorola’s Moto G96 5G specifications and Samsung’s Galaxy A17 5G product information are the relevant manufacturer references.
Which phone has the better screen and listed hardware?
Choose Moto G96 for the documented high-refresh display
Motorola specifies a 6.67-inch pOLED screen with FHD+ resolution (2400 × 1080) and a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. Those are concrete advantages on paper for someone prioritizing a fast-refresh display. Samsung’s cited India product excerpt does not provide enough comparable display detail to declare a measured screen winner across both models.
Battery capacity is not the same as battery life
The Moto G96 is listed with a 5,500mAh battery and 33W charging, while Samsung lists 5,000mAh typical capacity for the Galaxy A17 5G. The larger stated capacity does not establish longer real-world endurance: no comparable battery test is available here, and usage, network conditions and settings affect runtime.

Motorola has the established rating advantage
Motorola lists IP68 for the G96. The cited Samsung material does not establish a comparable Galaxy A17 rating, so do not assume the phones have equivalent ingress protection or infer a rating for Samsung.
Software support is the clearest Samsung advantage
Samsung says the Galaxy A17 5G receives six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates, counted from its first global launch date. Samsung India’s specification page for the 8GB/256GB model gives 31 August 2031 as the security-update end date; that date is specific to that listed India model and should not automatically be applied to other variants or regions. Samsung’s India buy page also carries the update commitment.

The Motorola specification source retrieved for the Moto G96 does not state an equivalent support-period promise. That means the evidence supports a clearer published commitment from Samsung, not a claim that Motorola will provide no updates.

Available India price snapshots are inconsistent for Motorola and configuration-dependent for Samsung. Motorola’s family listing displayed ₹20,999 in a price context covering Moto G96 configurations, while other Motorola India page snapshots showed different current or sale figures. Samsung’s indexed buy-page snapshot, accessed 7 October 2026, listed these prices:

| 8GB RAM / 128GB storage | ₹29,999 |
| 8GB RAM / 256GB storage | ₹35,499 |
These are dated page listings, not guaranteed checkout prices or a stable market-wide price gap. The ₹20,999 Motorola listing is not a reliable like-for-like comparison against every Samsung configuration. For a useful price difference, compare 8GB/128GB with 8GB/128GB where both are offered, and verify the seller, date, storage, RAM and whether each figure is a sale price or regular listed price immediately before buying. Motorola’s India family listing and Samsung’s buy page are the sources for the cited snapshots: Motorola India Moto G96 family page and Samsung India Galaxy A17 5G buy page.

Samsung lists a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultra-wide camera and 2MP macro camera on a listed Galaxy A17 5G variant. The cited Motorola excerpt does not provide a complete Moto G96 camera specification, so this comparison cannot establish which phone takes better photos or name a camera winner. Samsung’s India product listing is the source for the listed camera array.

Which one should you choose?
- Pick the Moto G96 5G if the listed 144Hz pOLED display, 5,500mAh capacity, 33W charging or IP68 rating is your priority, and the live price for your chosen configuration works for you.
- Pick the Galaxy A17 5G if Samsung’s published six-generation OS and six-year security-update commitment is more important to you, or if its available RAM/storage configuration better fits your needs.
- Compare before paying if price is decisive. The snapshots do not establish a permanent price difference; check current like-for-like offers for the same RAM and storage.
Neither the listed battery capacities nor the available camera specifications are a substitute for comparable real-world tests. The decision the published specifications support is narrower: Motorola leads on several documented hardware figures, while Samsung offers the clearer update commitment.
