The Redmi 17 5G is the larger-screen, higher-capacity-battery option in Xiaomi India’s specifications, while the Moto G86 Power has a sharper AMOLED display, a lighter listed weight and higher dust-and-water protection ratings in Motorola UK’s specifications. The best fit depends on which trade-offs matter to you—and on the exact regional model and live price, since the manufacturers publish different specifications for different markets.

At a glance: Moto G86 Power vs Redmi 17 5G

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from a shared lab test. Motorola warns that specifications can vary by market, and Xiaomi says configurations vary by region. The comparison therefore keeps each claim tied to its source market rather than assuming every phone sold under the same name is identical. Which screen is better for your use?

Choose the Moto for a sharper stated display

Motorola UK lists a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 2712 × 1220 resolution, HDR10+ and a refresh rate up to 120Hz. That makes the Moto the stronger specification-led choice if you prioritize pixel detail and an AMOLED panel. Specifications alone do not establish brightness, color accuracy or outdoor visibility.

Choose the Redmi for more screen area

Xiaomi India lists a larger 6.9-inch display and up to 120Hz AdaptiveSync. Its India product page does not state a resolution in the cited information; Xiaomi Global lists 1600 × 720, but that global specification should not be silently treated as the India model’s confirmed resolution. If screen size is the priority, the India listing favors the Redmi; if sharpness is the priority, the Motorola UK resolution is the clearer published figure.

Battery capacity and charging: what the numbers say

For the India-listed Redmi, Xiaomi specifies a 7,900mAh typical battery, 45W charging and reverse wired charging up to 22.5W. Xiaomi’s FAQ says a 45W charger is included in the India package. Motorola UK specifies a 6,720mAh battery and 30W TurboPower charging for the Moto, while Motorola India’s listing calls it a 7000mAh battery. The available manufacturer pages do not explain the market/listing discrepancy, so use the figure attached to the exact model you are buying.

Capacity and charging wattage do not prove how long a phone lasts or how quickly it charges in everyday conditions. No directly comparable runtime or charging test is established here.

Size, weight and durability

The Motorola UK specification lists the Moto at 185g. Xiaomi Global lists the Redmi at 232g, a 47g difference on those cited figures; Xiaomi’s global page may describe a different regional build, so this is not a guaranteed India-variant comparison. The Moto is the lighter choice on the available specifications.

Motorola UK lists IP68/IP69 and MIL-STD 810H for the Moto, compared with IP64 on Xiaomi India’s Redmi listing. These are manufacturer-rated protection claims under their applicable test conditions, not permission to immerse, pressure-wash or deliberately abuse either phone. A rating does not guarantee protection after damage or normal wear.

Performance, cameras and storage

Chipsets do not settle performance

The cited Motorola UK specification names a MediaTek Dimensity 7300; Xiaomi India names a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Those labels alone do not establish which phone is faster for gaming, sustained workloads or everyday responsiveness. No controlled head-to-head performance test is available in the cited material.

Camera specifications are not image-quality results

Xiaomi India advertises a 50MP AI dual rear camera and an 8MP front camera. The cited specifications do not provide comparable camera test results for both phones, and megapixel counts cannot determine detail, low-light performance, color or video quality. There is not enough evidence here to call either camera system superior.

Storage options are a meaningful difference

Motorola UK lists 8GB physical RAM with RAM Boost, 512GB internal storage and no memory-card slot. Xiaomi India lists 6GB/128GB and 8GB/128GB configurations, with memory extension up to 16GB on the 8GB model; its FAQ says microSD expansion is supported up to 2TB. Virtual or extended memory is not the same as physical RAM. Check the actual SKU and card support in the seller listing before purchase.

Software and update support

Motorola UK lists Android 15 for the Moto. Xiaomi India lists HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 for the Redmi and states four years of OS updates and six years of security updates for the India model. That published Xiaomi commitment is a useful longevity point; the cited Motorola page does not provide a like-for-like update commitment, so this comparison cannot establish which phone receives longer support overall.

Price difference in India: treat listings as snapshots

Motorola India’s product page displayed ₹16,999 when observed on 7 October 2026. A 91mobiles comparison page observed the same date showed ₹17,835 for the Moto and ₹23,998–₹23,999 for the Redmi, with Amazon attribution. On those third-party displayed figures, the Redmi was about ₹6,163–₹6,164 higher than the Moto; the separate Motorola India display was ₹836 below the 91mobiles Moto figure.

These are time-sensitive listing observations, not official launch prices or a guaranteed checkout total. Seller, offer, stock and memory configuration may differ, and the cited comparison does not confirm that the two listing prices were for matching variants. Check the live seller pages and compare the same RAM/storage configuration before deciding. Sources: Motorola India product page and 91mobiles comparison page.

Which one should you buy?

The Moto G86 Power makes more sense if

  • You prioritize the sharper AMOLED resolution published by Motorola UK.
  • You want the lighter listed body.
  • You value the higher IP protection claims shown on Motorola UK’s page.
  • You want the listed 512GB internal storage and do not need a memory-card slot.
  • Its live price is lower than the Redmi for the configuration you are actually comparing.

The REDMI 17 5G makes more sense if

  • You want the larger 6.9-inch screen listed by Xiaomi India.
  • You prioritize the higher India-listed typical battery capacity and 45W charging.
  • Reverse wired charging or microSD expansion is useful to you.
  • You value Xiaomi India’s stated update commitment for the India model.

Before paying, verify the regional model, RAM and storage, included charger, supported network bands for your carrier, seller and current price. These factors can vary by market and listing; the manufacturer pages do not support a universal winner on performance, battery runtime or camera quality.
