There is no universally best mortgage hedging platform. The right choice depends on how your lender prices loans, models pull-through and fallout, executes TBA and whole-loan trades, and divides work between internal staff and an advisory desk. Optimal Blue CompassEdge with Hedge Analytics is positioned as a connected pricing-to-hedging-to-loan-sale workflow. MCT MCTlive! is positioned around normalized data, pipeline and position management, hedge scenarios, electronic TBA trading, and optional advisory support.
Public materials available as of October 13, 2026 do not provide comparable current prices or a complete integration matrix. Treat both products as candidates for a controlled proof of concept, then compare written quotes that separate software, implementation, data, transaction, support, and advisory costs.
What mortgage hedging software is supposed to control
Mortgage pipeline hedging manages the market risk created after a lender commits to a borrower or correspondent seller but before the loan is funded and sold. Rates, loan eligibility, pull-through, servicing values, investor bids, and execution costs can change during that interval. A hedge is intended to offset enough of that movement to protect the value of the mortgage and the commitment.

A platform should help you see the exposure, choose and size a hedge, execute or record the trade, reconcile the result, and explain the profit or loss later.

In practice, a lender needs more than a screen showing a hedge ratio. The system must receive accurate lock and loan data, apply defensible pull-through assumptions, distinguish current from modeled positions, capture commitments and trades, support best-execution decisions, and produce an audit trail that secondary marketing, finance, risk, and regulators can understand.

How the two platforms are positioned
Optimal Blue CompassEdge and Hedge Analytics
Optimal Blue presents CompassEdge as an integrated capital-markets workflow. Its published capability list spans product pricing and eligibility, analytics, margin management and hedging, partner connectivity, and execution. The CompassEdge description specifically connects pricing, hedging, and execution from lock through loan sale and names pipeline hedge and exposure optimization, commitment management, pool optimization and best-execution analysis, loan-level MSR valuation, and analytics and reporting.
Hedge Analytics is described as a complementary risk-analytics and advisory solution. The stated workflow includes real-time market and lock data, shock analysis, pull-through granularity, risk scrubbing, comparisons between modeled and current positions, and trade automation. Buyers can choose a full-service, hybrid, or self-service operating model, at least as described in the vendor’s materials.
Recommended Free Tools
That breadth may appeal to a lender trying to reduce handoffs between pricing, hedging, and loan sale. It also creates a diligence requirement: determine which capabilities are included in your proposed edition, which require separate modules, and which are delivered as services rather than software.
Jim Glennon, Optimal Blue’s vice president of hedging and trading client services, summarized the vendor’s rationale this way: “In today’s highly competitive market, mitigating execution risk is imperative to success. Optimal Blue’s hedge advisory suite provides robust tools to accurately measure and confidently manage risk with real-time feeds of market and lock data.” The statement explains the intended value proposition; it is not an independent performance test.
MCT MCTlive!
MCT describes MCTlive! as cloud-based software for mortgage pipeline risk management and secondary-marketing activity. Its published workflow starts with data normalization and synchronization, then moves through pull-through analysis, pipeline and position views, profitability analysis, hedge-scenario recommendations, electronic TBA trades, and reporting. MCT also offers advisory support ranging from an autonomous model to fully managed hedging.
This positioning can fit a lender that wants a dedicated secondary-marketing workflow with the option to outsource part of daily hedge management. Confirm, however, whether a proposed quote covers only the software or also includes advisory personnel, trading support, data services, and reporting work. A managed service and a self-operated SaaS deployment should not be compared as though they were the same product.

Workflow automation: what to examine in a demonstration
Ask each vendor to demonstrate the same sequence using a representative historical pipeline and a live-like file. Do not accept a generic feature tour. The demonstration should show what happens from a rate lock through funding, hedge adjustment, commitment, sale, and post-close reconciliation.
1. Data intake and normalization
- Show how new locks, changes, cancellations, extensions, withdrawals, and funded loans enter the platform.
- Identify required fields for loan amount, note rate, product, term, occupancy, property type, credit characteristics, servicing value, investor eligibility, and expected funding date.
- Demonstrate duplicate detection, stale-record handling, missing-field alerts, and corrections when the LOS and hedge system disagree.
- Measure refresh frequency and the time between an LOS change and a visible pipeline update.
2. Pull-through and fallout
Pull-through assumptions convert a gross locked pipeline into an estimate of what will actually fund. The system should let you examine assumptions at useful granularity rather than applying one blanket factor to every product and channel.
- Test segmentation by product, branch or channel, lock age, FICO or loan characteristics, occupancy, and expected closing date.
- Enter a changed pull-through assumption and observe which modeled positions, hedge ratios, and reports change.
- Check how withdrawn, denied, expired, and suspended loans are treated and whether overrides are logged with a reason and user.
- Ask how the model is calibrated, how often it can be recalibrated, and whether your own historical outcomes can be used.
3. Exposure and position management
A useful view should distinguish locked pipeline, expected funding, funded loans awaiting sale, commitments, open hedge trades, and settled positions. Ask the vendor to show exposure by product, coupon, investor, settlement date, and other dimensions your risk committee uses.
Look for a clear separation between current positions and modeled positions. Hedge Analytics describes modeled-versus-current comparisons; MCTlive! describes pipeline and position views. In either case, verify the calculation behind each number and whether users can drill from an aggregate exposure to the underlying loans.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
4. Scenario and shock analysis
Request scenarios that change rates, spreads, pull-through, servicing values, and settlement timing. The demonstration should show the effect on required hedge size, expected value, margin, and projected profit and loss. Ask whether scenarios are saved, versioned, approved, and included in an audit report.
5. Trade and commitment workflow
Automation should not mean uncontrolled orders. Verify maker-checker approvals, trading limits, counterparty permissions, duplicate-order prevention, cancel-and-replace handling, and confirmation matching. A platform should show which recommendation generated an order, who approved it, when it was sent, and whether the execution filled as expected.
6. Reporting and reconciliation
Require daily position, hedge coverage, mark-to-market, realized and unrealized P&L, fallout, execution, and exception reports. Ask how reports are exported, scheduled, retained, and reconciled to the general ledger or warehouse records. Have the vendor explain how a month-end number can be reproduced after assumptions or market data are updated.

Hedging analytics and model governance
Feature names do not establish model quality. The important question is whether the lender can understand and govern the calculations that drive hedge decisions.
Inputs to compare
- Market data sources, update timing, and fallback behavior during an outage.
- Loan-level characteristics used in price, pull-through, servicing, and exposure calculations.
- Assumptions for fallout, extensions, prepayments, pair-offs, and settlement timing.
- Supported hedge instruments and whether the system handles contracts, options, or only the instruments your desk already uses.
- Rules for rounding, position netting, coupon allocation, and lot sizes.
Controls and explainability
- Role-based permissions for changing assumptions, approving trades, and releasing reports.
- Immutable or otherwise reviewable audit history for data changes, overrides, recommendations, and executions.
- Exception queues for stale market data, missing loan attributes, unusual exposure, and failed interfaces.
- Versioned model parameters so a prior recommendation can be reconstructed.
- Independent validation or documentation sufficient for your risk committee and internal audit process.
Use the same stress cases with both vendors. Compare not only the recommended hedge but also the explanation, the exceptions raised, the time required to resolve them, and the resulting audit record.
Trading, best execution, and loan-sale workflow
Hedging and loan sale are related but distinct decisions. A platform may calculate a hedge, recommend a trade, analyze best execution, route an order, and manage a loan commitment; those functions can be bundled or licensed separately.
CompassEdge is presented as connecting hedge and loan-trading workflows and includes pool optimization and best-execution analysis in its capability description. MCT describes electronic TBA trading, best-execution analysis, and loan trading within the MCTlive! workflow. Ask both vendors to show the complete path rather than a static list of supported functions.
Questions for the trading demonstration
- Which TBA contracts, coupons, agencies, and settlement conventions are supported?
- Can the system allocate or reallocate loans to pools and commitments while preserving an approval history?
- Which counterparties and execution venues are available, and are any connections custom?
- How are bids normalized, compared, accepted, confirmed, and reconciled?
- What happens when a trade is rejected, partially filled, cancelled, or corrected?
- Are transaction costs, pair-off charges, concessions, and other execution expenses reflected in profitability?
- Can users separate system recommendations from human overrides in post-trade reporting?
Integrations: native, API, and custom are not interchangeable
Integration fit often determines implementation effort more than the product brochure does. “API-first,” “integrated,” and “supports interfaces” can describe very different realities. Ask for a current matrix that names your exact systems, data direction, fields, refresh interval, authentication method, error handling, monitoring, and owner.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOptimal Blue integration claims
Optimal Blue describes a native connection between CompassEdge and its own product and pricing engine and an API-first ecosystem. That may reduce friction for a lender already using the vendor’s pricing environment. It does not prove a native connection to your LOS, agency, investor, accounting, or market-data systems. Request written confirmation for each one.
MCT integration evidence
MCT describes APIs and software integrations. Fannie Mae’s official Integrated Vendor List identifies MCT and MCTlive! with interfaces including the Loan Pricing API, Mission Score API, and Pricing & Execution whole-loan browse, commitment, and manage-commitment interfaces. Fannie Mae also directs institutions to contact vendors for product details and does not endorse vendor solutions.

Those agency listings are useful evidence that specific interfaces exist; they are not a complete compatibility guarantee. Confirm your version, credentials, entitlement, test environment, throughput, and production cutover plan.
Integration acceptance tests
- Send a new lock and verify that the correct loan appears once, with all required attributes.
- Change a rate, product, loan amount, or closing date and verify the downstream update and audit record.
- Cancel a loan and confirm that exposure, hedge recommendations, and reports adjust correctly.
- Simulate an API timeout or malformed message and inspect alerting, retry, and reconciliation behavior.
- Run an agency or investor commitment through browse, commit, and manage-commitment steps where applicable.
- Reconcile a daily file, trade confirmation, and month-end report to your source systems.
Pricing and total cost of ownership
Neither vendor’s reviewed public materials discloses a comparable current platform price. Do not fill that gap with an internet estimate or a per-loan assumption. Request scoped written quotes from both vendors using the same facts about annual locks and fundings, users, products, data sources, integrations, hedge instruments, and service model.
| Cost category | Questions to put in the quote |
|---|---|
| Recurring software | What modules, environments, users, branches, volumes, and reports are included? Is pricing tiered by locks, loans, trades, or assets? |
| Implementation | What are migration, configuration, data mapping, testing, project management, and production-cutover fees? |
| Data and APIs | Are market data, agency connections, API calls, storage, or file transfers charged separately? |
| Trading and transactions | Are there per-trade, execution, commitment, pool, or settlement charges? |
| Advisory and managed service | What staffing, hours, holidays, coverage, escalation, and minimum volumes are included? |
| Training and support | What onboarding, administrator training, support tier, response target, and after-hours coverage are included? |
| Renewal and exit | What is the initial term, renewal increase, termination right, data-export format, and assistance fee at exit? |
Normalize both proposals to the same five-year view. Separate one-time implementation from recurring fees, and calculate the cost per lock and per funded loan only after all mandatory charges are included. Ask whether any claimed savings or per-loan impact is gross or net of software, data, trading, and advisory fees.
How to evaluate vendor ROI claims
Published performance figures are marketing claims until their population, period, methodology, and fee treatment are clear. MCT’s current mortgage hedging page advertises an average $97,000 per year in Bid Tape AOT client savings for 2023 and a 4.6-basis-point average pickup on electronic TBA trades. The available material does not establish the methodology or comparability of those figures.
Optimal Blue’s CompassEdge page advertises a $1,000-plus average net benefit per loan, a $400-plus per-loan hedging and trading impact, and a 43% increase in operational capacity, attributing them to an Operational and Financial Impact Study by MarketWise Advisors, LLC. The study methodology and scope were not available in the material reviewed here.
Use these numbers to form questions, not to forecast your result. Request the underlying study, sample size, dates, customer profile, baseline, exclusions, and whether costs are deducted. Then run both products on your own historical data and define acceptance criteria before seeing the output.

A practical proof-of-concept plan
- Define the baseline. Document your current lock volume, pull-through method, hedge instruments, trade cadence, execution workflow, manual touchpoints, exception rate, reporting time, and recent realized and unrealized P&L.
- Prepare a representative data set. Include normal loans and difficult cases: changed locks, fallout, extensions, missing fields, different products, multiple investors, and loans near settlement.
- Set identical scenarios. Give both vendors the same market shocks, pull-through assumptions, funding calendar, and execution constraints.
- Score the workflow. Record data latency, number of manual corrections, recommendation explainability, approval steps, exception handling, report production time, and reconciliation differences.
- Test integration failure. Interrupt a feed, send a duplicate, change a field, and process a rejected trade. Verify alerts, retries, ownership, and recovery.
- Validate economics. Compare modeled results with your known historical outcomes. Do not accept a favorable result without tracing every assumption and fee.
- Document acceptance. Write pass/fail criteria for data completeness, calculation tolerances, uptime, support response, security review, and operational sign-off.
Service model and staffing decisions
Software does not eliminate the need for accountable risk ownership. Decide whether your lender wants a self-operated platform, a hybrid model with vendor support, or a managed advisory desk.

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
Self-service
Your team owns assumptions, daily monitoring, trade decisions, exceptions, and coverage during absences. This can preserve control but requires experienced staff, documented procedures, and backup coverage.
Hybrid
The lender retains decision rights while the vendor supplies analytics, recommendations, training, or selected operating tasks. Define exactly who approves trades, changes assumptions, handles holidays, and responds to market disruptions.
Managed advisory
The vendor performs more of the daily hedge process. Clarify fiduciary and operating responsibilities, service hours, named personnel, escalation times, trade authority, communication records, business continuity, and what happens if the relationship ends.

- Comparing a platform with a service bundle. Price software, advisory, trading, data, and implementation separately.
- Assuming a native connection is universal. Verify your exact LOS, PPE, agency, investor, market-data, and accounting interfaces in writing.
- Accepting one headline hedge ratio. Compare assumptions, segmentation, fallout treatment, scenario behavior, and auditability.
- Ignoring exception work. Count the time spent fixing missing, duplicate, stale, or contradictory records.
- Using vendor ROI as a budget forecast. Recalculate with your own volume, products, fees, and historical outcomes.
- Leaving ownership undefined. Put approvals, overrides, trade authority, support, holidays, and incident response in the operating agreement.
- Skipping exit planning. Specify data export, retention, open commitments, audit records, and transition assistance before signing.
Which option fits which lender?
Choose CompassEdge/Hedge Analytics for a connected pricing-to-sale architecture
CompassEdge deserves priority in a shortlist when your lender wants pricing, hedging, commitment, pool optimization, MSR valuation, analytics, and loan-sale functions connected in one vendor’s capital-markets workflow, particularly if you already use the vendor’s pricing environment. Validate module boundaries, non-native integrations, and the exact service level in the proposal.
Choose MCTlive! for a pipeline-and-advisory operating model
MCTlive! deserves priority when normalized data, pull-through analysis, pipeline and position management, electronic TBA trading, and a selectable level of hedge advisory are central requirements. Confirm the specific Fannie Mae and other interfaces you need, plus the cost and responsibilities of any managed service.
Run both proofs of concept when the decision is material
If hedge exposure, execution volume, or operational change is significant, a side-by-side proof of concept is safer than selecting from feature pages. Use one data set, one scorecard, one cost model, and one integration checklist. The winner should be the platform that produces trustworthy decisions with acceptable controls and total cost in your environment, not the one with the longest feature list.
Procurement questions to send with your request for proposal
- Which capabilities are included in the quoted edition, and which are optional modules or services?
- What are the exact LOS, PPE, agency, investor, market-data, accounting, identity, and reporting integrations supported today?
- Which data fields, refresh rates, APIs, file formats, credentials, and environments are required?
- How are pull-through, fallout, extensions, servicing values, and settlement timing modeled?
- Which hedge instruments, TBA contracts, counterparties, and execution venues are supported?
- How are recommendations approved, overridden, executed, confirmed, and audited?
- What reports cover exposure, coverage, mark-to-market, realized and unrealized P&L, best execution, and exceptions?
- What are the implementation milestones, lender responsibilities, testing requirements, and expected cutover effort?
- What are the recurring, one-time, data, API, transaction, training, support, advisory, and renewal charges?
- What service-level commitments, business-continuity provisions, security controls, and data-export rights apply?
- Can you provide a customer-reference workflow that matches our volume, products, and service model?
- Will you process our representative historical file and agree to measurable proof-of-concept acceptance criteria?
Bottom line for a lender choosing in 2026
CompassEdge/Hedge Analytics and MCTlive! both address the core mortgage pipeline-hedging problem, but they emphasize different operating shapes. Optimal Blue emphasizes a connected pricing, hedging, and loan-sale ecosystem with multiple analytics and execution capabilities. MCT emphasizes normalized pipeline data, hedge scenarios, electronic TBA trading, reporting, and a range of advisory arrangements.
Because public materials do not establish comparable prices or complete compatibility details, a responsible recommendation requires your lender profile, written scoped quotes, and a proof of concept. Select the platform that can ingest your data reliably, explain its hedge decisions, integrate with your named systems, support your control model, and demonstrate an all-in cost that remains attractive after implementation, data, trading, and advisory fees.
