Shell Points and Glimpses serve different purposes in Mortal Shell II: Shell Points are used for Shell abilities, while Glimpses deepen a Shell’s Bond and unlock further progression. You can refund allocated Shell Points without resetting Bond progress. To reset a Shell’s Bond and recover the Glimpses spent on it, use Mether’s Severance.
Shell Points and Glimpses do different jobs

In practical terms, an ability refund is a narrower adjustment: it returns Shell Points from abilities. A Bond reset is a broader reset of one Shell’s progression, and the official notes say it returns the Glimpses spent on that Shell.
How to reset a Shell’s Bond
The official Week 1 Update introduced Mether’s Severance as a Shell respec item. The update says to give it to Zhirelle, the shell keeper; she severs your Bond with a Shell, resets it, and returns the Glimpses spent on it. A September 14 hotfix later enabled use of the item at Genessa’s trainer as well. Check the current in-game vendor or trainer options for availability: the official notes do not establish the item’s cost, locations, restock schedule, or use limit. Read the official patch news and updates.
- Obtain Mether’s Severance in-game.
- Take it to Zhirelle, or use it at Genessa’s trainer following the September hotfix.
- Select the Shell whose Bond you want to sever and confirm the reset in-game.
Why older advice about Glimpses may be outdated
An earlier guide described Glimpses spent on Bond progression as permanent. That reflects the older state it covered, not the complete current reset picture: the official Week 1 Update added Mether’s Severance, which returns those spent Glimpses when the Shell’s Bond is severed. The later hotfix expanded where the item can be used; it did not make Shell Point refunds and Bond resets the same action.

Do not confuse map-reveal refunds with a Shell respec
A separate Balance Patch 1 refunded Glimpses previously spent on Shell map reveals after changing those reveals to cost Gloom. That adjustment concerns map locations; it is distinct from refunding ability Shell Points or using Mether’s Severance to reset a Shell’s Bond.
