Zmey, the Unbidden, is at the end of The Unfound Path. Reach the arena from the Marrow Keep Siphon area after clearing three Guardian branches and severing each corrupted core. For the fight, keep open space around you, dodge sword lines sideways, leave stomp and hazard zones, and watch the tail before attacking. The Hidden Nave Beacon is the recommended retry point. Defeating Zmey does not automatically start New Game Plus; that begins only if you later choose Send Ova.
Where is Zmey in Mortal Shell 2?
Zmey is the final campaign boss at the end of The Unfound Path. The route begins in the Marrow Keep Siphon area and leads through a central route with three Guardian branches.
How do I unlock Zmey?
- Recover 168 Ova, as required for the route described by the encounter guide.
- Enter The Unfound Path from the Marrow Keep Siphon area.
- Clear the three Guardian branches. You can tackle Orrem, the Reclaimed; The Monolith; and Malborn Offspring in any order.
- In each branch, continue far enough to sever its corrupted core. Defeating the Guardian alone is not enough to clear the route.
- Return to the central route after all three cores are severed; the barrier will clear.
- Activate The Hidden Nave Beacon, then traverse the final route and use the updraft to reach the arena.
The sealed gate in The Hidden Nave costs the Gloom you are carrying, according to the encounter guide. Account for that before opening it.

Use The Hidden Nave Beacon. The encounter guide identifies it as the practical checkpoint for retries, so activate it before continuing to the arena. This avoids repeating the earlier route each time an attempt ends.

How do I beat Zmey?
The encounter guide describes an opening phase built around sword lines, breath and ground hazards, repeated stomps, and a tail grab. Later, Zmey retains those attacks and adds stronger Cosmic effects and Ring Waves. Prioritize reading each cue and keeping room to move instead of chasing long damage windows.
Move sideways out of the sword line
A downward sword attack sends pressure across the arena. Dodge laterally out of its path rather than retreating straight back along the line.

Leave breath and ground-hazard areas diagonally
When breath or a ground effect marks an area, move diagonally clear and preserve space for the next attack. Avoid moving into a corner or hazard while escaping.

Give the stomp sequence room to finish
Move away from Zmey’s legs during repeated stomps instead of staying close to attack between impacts. Resume attacking when the sequence ends and you have a clear opening.

Watch the tail before committing
Keep the tail and Zmey’s body in view. Leave the grab line before starting another attack; the encounter guide reports that the grab remains lethal in Night Mode.
Respond to each Ring Wave
Keep the arena in view and react to the successive Ring Waves one at a time. The guide recommends watching each wave rather than trying to outrun the whole sequence.

What changes in the Week 1 update?
An unofficial guide’s patch summary says the PC/Steam Week 1 Update, dated August 29, 2026, changed the normal-mode tail grab so it no longer removes both Shell and Harbinger from full health. The guide says Night Mode retained the lethal behavior. It also reports changes to Ring Wave ground alignment and stomp and elemental visuals. Older videos may therefore show different cues or outcomes; these patch details are guide-reported, not independently verified here against official update notes.

The available guides do not establish a universally best Shell, weapon, or stat distribution. Bring a familiar, upgraded setup rather than learning a new loadout during the final encounter. If Cosmic Disease is a recurring problem, Seedbearer’s Scripture is described as optional help; it is not required to unlock the arena or defeat Zmey.

The encounter guide gives a high-level route to the Scripture: use the Depleted, Thawed, and Faded Glands at Forgotten Tower during Night Mode. Treat that as guide-sourced route information rather than an official requirement.
What does Zmey drop?
The encounter guide reports no normal item boss drop. Defeating Zmey awards the achievement “It’s over now?” and returns you to Marrow Keep, where free roam remains available and the Send Ova option becomes available. The Endless Core is a pickup on the Hidden Nave route, not a Zmey boss reward.
Does defeating Zmey start New Game Plus?
No. The guide says New Game Plus begins only when you choose Send Ova after returning to Marrow Keep. That choice is described as the point of no return, so do not select it until you are ready to begin a new run.
