Monarch’s Vestige is a Tarstone reward for defeating Bor, the Deluded Monarch, in the Ruins of Mammon. To reach him, start at the Abbey Entrance beacon, cross the Kingdom of Fools village, and use the Strange Village Key to open the central gate. The item is reported to infuse your Sidearm with Phantom for 20 Resolve; later upgrades extend the effect to four shots, eight shots, and finally a permanent infusion.
Where to find Monarch’s Vestige and how to claim it
- Start at the Abbey Entrance beacon in the Ruins of Mammon and make your way through the Kingdom of Fools village.
- Obtain the Strange Village Key and use it to open the central gate. Guides agree that the key is required, but they disagree on its pickup location: NerdsChalk describes a coffin behind the houses and an enemy that appears when you approach, while AllThingsHow describes breaking a wooden barrier and opening a chest in a hut. Check the possible pickup spots in your current game rather than relying on either description as definitive.
- Go through the gate and drop down into Bor’s arena.
- Defeat Bor, the Deluded Monarch, to claim Monarch’s Vestige.

What does Monarch’s Vestige do?
Monarch’s Vestige is classified in the guides as a Sidearm infusion. Activating it costs 20 Resolve and applies Phantom to Sidearm shots. Its effect changes with upgrades: the first level is the activation-cost version, the second grants four shots, the third grants eight shots, and the fourth is reported to make the infusion permanent.

How to upgrade Monarch’s Vestige
- Find the Etching Needle. NerdsChalk places it in a bone chest along the route toward Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods: after spotting Ruk past a bridge, drop through an opening and turn right before the tunnel.
- Take the Etching Needle to Franz at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep.
- Equip Monarch’s Vestige and defeat enemies to build the Tarstone’s XP.
- Return to Franz and spend Coins to increase the Tarstone’s level.
The reported progression is four shots at level 2, eight at level 3, and a permanent infusion at level 4. The cited guide does not give verified Coin costs, so check Franz’s current upgrade menu before committing resources. NerdsChalk also refers to an August 22 balance patch affecting Tarforge costs and enemy gold drops, but the available account does not provide precise patch details; costs and rewards may therefore depend on the game build.
Is Monarch’s Vestige missable?
The cited guides establish that Bor drops the Tarstone after defeat, but they do not establish whether the item can be permanently missed or recovered later. If you have passed the village gate without claiming it, return to Bor’s arena and check for the reward rather than assuming the item is lost.

Is it worth upgrading Monarch’s Vestige?
The practical trade-off is the reported 20-Resolve activation against the later shot-count increases and level 4 permanent infusion. If you use the Sidearm often, those milestones may make the Tarstone more appealing; if you rarely use it, the upgrade resources may be better kept for another priority. The available guides provide no verified damage comparison, exact Coin totals, or independent performance testing, so the decision is best made around your own Sidearm use and the costs shown by Franz in your current build.
