Mortal Shell II has eight main weapons, plus a separate set of sidearms. The main weapons range from quick dual-weapon combos to a transforming axe and heavy two-handed arms; a few sidearms add ranged attacks or unusual effects. There is no substantiated damage ranking, so the practical choice is the weapon role and feel that suit your approach.
How many weapons are in Mortal Shell II?
The main-weapon roster has eight entries. GameSpot’s broader count of 16 covers melee weapons and sidearms together, not 16 main weapons. The categories matter: sidearms include ranged or tactical tools, while the eight main weapons are the core melee choices. The Mortal Shell II Player Companion lists the eight main weapons; GameSpot’s locations guide covers both categories.

Sidearms and their distinct uses
GameSpot’s 16-item combined count includes eight sidearms. Its guide places two gear pieces in the prologue, six in Fainweald, and eight in Mammon; those area totals likewise refer to gear, not just main weapons.

How to choose a weapon
Start with the attack profile
For rapid light-attack combinations, the Axe & Dagger is the clearest fit in the available descriptions. The Black Needle is described as a fast, thrust-focused spear. The Axatana changes its attack form between light and heavy use. If you prefer heavier classifications, the Great Martyr’s Blade and Obsidian Hammer are identified as heavy weapons. These are role descriptions, not measured speed or damage comparisons.

Decide whether you want sidearm utility
Sidearms can add something other than another melee pattern. The Naylshotte’s projectile spread and the Salvaged Trebuchaxe’s thrown axes are direct ranged attacks; the Lute’s described confusion effect is tactical utility. The sources do not provide comparable range, damage, or duration figures for these effects.

Pair the weapon with a Shell you like
The official PlayStation listing says possessed warriors have innate strengths and mastered abilities. A Windows Central review also describes mixing Shells and weapons. That supports treating the combination as a build preference; it does not establish a best-in-slot pairing.

Combat, posture, and upgrades
The official game description says stamina gauges are removed. The official Mortal Shell II site says combat is unrestricted by stamina and emphasizes tactics that break enemy posture to create critical-strike opportunities. That makes weapon selection about attack style, tactical fit, and how a weapon works with your Shell—not an assumed stamina cost or an unsupported highest-damage ranking.
The official site confirms that weapons have upgrade options. GameSpot identifies the Tarforge in Marrow Keep as the place to upgrade gear, using coins and smithing-stone-type materials. The cited sources do not establish detailed costs, upgrade caps, or stat gains.

Is there a strongest weapon?
The cited sources do not provide controlled damage tables, attack timings, DPS measurements, or reproducible best-weapon tests. They cannot substantiate an objective strongest weapon. Choose by the attack profile you want, whether you value a sidearm’s utility, and the Shell abilities you prefer; judge handling in play rather than treating a guide’s qualitative descriptions as a tier list.

The official US PlayStation listing gives Mortal Shell II’s PS5 release date as August 20, 2026. GameSpot’s guide is dated August 17, 2026, though its page also displays a conflicting game-hub release field; the official platform listing is the clearer date reference. The roster counts above use different definitions: eight main weapons in the companion and 16 melee weapons and sidearms combined in GameSpot’s guide.
