To open the secret cave in Mortal Shell 2, collect the Makeshift Projectile in the Outskirts of Mammon, load it into the nearby catapult, and fire it toward the rock face by Castigator’s Keep. Then travel to the keep, descend to the lower wooden platforms, and enter the new opening. Walkthroughs identify the hidden dungeon as the Alchemist’s Workshop.
Find the Makeshift Projectile in the Outskirts of Mammon
- Travel to the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon and follow the route toward the southern cliff area.
- Look past Vlas and beneath a stone bridge, near the cliff edge, for the Makeshift Projectile. Pick it up before returning toward the beacon. Nerd’s Chalk’s walkthrough and AllThingsHow’s guide describe this route.
Use the catapult to open the cave
- Return to the catapult near the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon.
- Load the Makeshift Projectile and fire it toward the distant rock face by Castigator’s Keep. The impact opens the exterior entrance. The catapult route is the method consistently covered across the walkthroughs.
Reach the Alchemist’s Workshop
- Fast-travel to Castigator’s Keep.
- Descend from the beacon area to the lower wooden platforms.
- Follow the cliffside route to the opening made by the projectile and enter. The location is called the Alchemist’s Workshop in current walkthroughs and is described as part of the Ruins of Mammon.
Inside the workshop: hidden passage and rewards
The catapult opens the external cave entrance. Once inside, look for a book-lined wall: one walkthrough reports that it conceals a separate illusory wall that you must strike to continue through the interior.
Walkthroughs identify a Synaptic Vessel, a Clockwork Shardstone, and Glimpse pickups in the dungeon. Their Glimpse counts differ: one guide describes four in an upper room and another behind a separate illusory wall, while another summarizes five across the broader route. The Clockwork Shardstone is also described differently: one guide places it after a lower-cave mini-boss encounter, while another mentions reports of a chest at the bottom. The guides establish the reward’s presence in the dungeon, but not one consistent exact pickup location.

Can you open the entrance without the catapult?
AllThingsHow reports that striking the exterior illusory wall directly can open the entrance without firing the projectile. Other walkthrough coverage emphasizes the catapult, so treat the direct-wall approach as an alternative reported by one guide rather than the dependable route.
