Quick answer: Vlas begins beside his wrecked caravan on the Road to Absolution, south of the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon. The Unremarkable Key is found in a hut or shack around the Lonesome Spire camp approach; use it to open Vlas’s cage, then meet him and Mutton at Marrow Keep near Merrick’s shop to finish the quest and receive the later Coin of Mammon.

Start Vlas’s quest at the wrecked caravan
Find Vlas and his wrecked caravan on the Road to Absolution, south of the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon. Speak with him, then inspect Mutton’s empty cage beside the baggage cart. Exhaust his dialogue and check the cage, since the opening Coin of Mammon trigger is described differently by walkthroughs.
Rest at a Beacon, return to Vlas, and speak with him again. Repeat the rest-and-return cycle until he leaves the camp. If the quest state does not change after one rest, continue the cycle rather than assuming the route is stuck. Nerd’s Chalk’s Vlas quest guide and its Mutton location guide cover the opening steps.

Find the Unremarkable Key at Lonesome Spire
Travel to the upper bandit camp at Lonesome Spire from the Gate of Mammon Beacon. Search the hut or shack around the camp approach for the Unremarkable Key. The landmark descriptions vary: one account places the key in a hut near the entrance, while another describes a shack with a breakable wall in the upper camp. Check both the hut and the breakable wall rather than relying on a precise compass direction.
Use the key at Vlas’s cage to advance the rescue. The iMaps location records associate Vlas at Lonesome Spire with the Unremarkable Key requirement.

Buy from the Brigand before opening the cage
If you want the Brigand’s stock, buy it before freeing Vlas. The rescue advances the Lonesome Spire camp and closes the merchant’s shop state, according to Nerd’s Chalk’s Unremarkable Key guide.

Check Vlas’s first camp for his letter
After the cage interaction and escape, return to the wrecked caravan and inspect the ground for Vlas’s letter. Reports differ on whether the letter appears before or after the tower rescue, so if it is not there on your first return, check again after completing the rescue.

Complete the reunion at Marrow Keep
Go to Marrow Keep and find Vlas near Merrick’s shop, reunited with Mutton. Speak with Vlas there to complete the route and collect the later Coin of Mammon. The opening coin is reported around the wreck-and-cage stage, but accounts differ on whether examining the cage alone triggers it or whether another dialogue or Beacon reset comes first. If it has not appeared, exhaust Vlas’s dialogue, rest once, and return to check the updated state.
