Morgan Stanley is now reported to expect tokenized-equity trading on its alternative trading system (ATS) in the first quarter of 2027. Reports published October 12, 2026, attribute the revised expectation to Amy Oldenburg, the firm’s head of digital asset strategy, speaking in an interview with The Block. It is a target, not a confirmed launch date or evidence that trading is available now.

What changed in Morgan Stanley’s timeline?

The newly reported Q1 2027 expectation moves the target from the second half of 2026. The earlier schedule came from Oldenburg’s public remarks about enabling the firm’s Trajectory Cross ATS for tokenized equities. The October 12 reports describe the later timing as more realistic amid work across the broader ecosystem.

Schedule What was reported How to read it
Earlier target Second half of 2026, in Oldenburg’s earlier public remarks about Trajectory Cross. A prior target, not confirmation that support was launched.
Current reported target First quarter of 2027, attributed by October 12, 2026 reports to Oldenburg’s interview with The Block. An expected timeframe, not a confirmed date for general availability.

The October reports are secondary accounts of an interview; the original interview was not available in the reviewed sources. They do not provide identical wording, so the revised schedule is best treated as a reported expectation rather than a verified direct quotation.

Where is the planned trading support?

Earlier remarks named Trajectory Cross, described as Morgan Stanley’s ATS and dark pool. An account of those remarks said the venue already supported traditional equities, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and American depositary receipts (ADRs). That existing support does not establish that any tokenized-equity trading has begun.

Why may the schedule depend on wider work?

Oldenburg has described the firm’s digital-asset strategy as spanning spot cryptocurrency trading, derivatives and digital-market infrastructure, including tokenized assets. In a Tokenized podcast interview, she discussed work to enable Trajectory Cross for tokenized equities and raised market-structure questions about making a model operate efficiently and scale. That context offers a possible reason the timing is tied to wider ecosystem work, but it does not independently confirm the updated Q1 2027 target.

A Morgan Stanley Institute roundtable dated September 30, 2026, also placed tokenization within a broader discussion of digital-asset infrastructure and the firm’s efforts to make digital-asset products available to clients. It did not confirm the Q1 2027 ATS schedule, and a general digital-asset strategy discussion should not be read as an announcement of a retail tokenized-stock product.

What has Morgan Stanley not specified?

The available reports and earlier remarks do not establish the details needed to know how the service would work for an investor. They do not identify:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Which securities, if any, would be eligible.
  • Who would be able to trade them or how access would be offered.
  • How the equity tokens would be designed or connected to the underlying securities.
  • How trades would settle.
  • What conditions must be met before launch or whether Q1 2027 would mean a limited rollout or general availability.

Until Morgan Stanley provides those details and confirms availability, investors should regard Q1 2027 as a reported target, not a date on which they can expect to place tokenized-equity trades.
