Moonfrost entered Steam Early Access on October 12, 2026, as a single-player PC life-sim RPG about farming, exploration and rebuilding a village in a world changed by meteor storms. Its launch version is a work in progress, with a partial story and relationship progression that currently stops at level 3.
When did Moonfrost launch, and what kind of game is it?
Developed by Oxalis Games, Moonfrost launched in Steam Early Access on October 12, 2026. Steam lists Oxalis Games and iterco as publishers. The game takes place in a world damaged by meteor storms following the appearance of a Second Moon. Players take the role of a Frost Hunter investigating the Moonfrost mystery while restoring a village and building a life there. Steam’s game listing describes it as a single-player experience.
The activities are designed to feed into one another: farming and fishing supply ingredients, cooking and crafting turn resources into useful goods, and exploration advances the story. Players can restore village businesses, design and furnish a home, and build relationships with villagers. That combination gives the game both an ongoing daily-life loop and a central mystery to pursue, rather than making the village activities the only focus.
What does the Early Access version include?
The launch build is not the complete game. In its September 29, 2026 announcement, Oxalis Games said the planned release would contain around 50% of the main storyline, Temple content through level 19 and 11 villagers whose relationships could reach level 3. The developer also announced expanded character customization, a map, revised task and quest tracking, and new crafting puzzles for decorations. These are the developer’s launch-scope statements, not a promise that every later version will retain the same limits. The dated announcement appears in the Steam Community news feed.

Steam’s Early Access description gives additional detail about the playable build: it lists the first 20 Temple rooms, several restored village businesses, home building and hundreds of furniture and decoration blueprints. Its description also says the build contains the first half of the main story and 11 villagers with friendship capped at level 3. The developer’s announcement and Steam’s description differ slightly on Temple scope—level 19 versus the first 20 rooms—so those should be read as statements made in their respective launch materials, not silently combined into a single precise count.
Steam says the planned additions include the rest of the main story, more relationship events, locations, villagers and features. That is a roadmap, not a guaranteed schedule or final feature list. The developers explain that Early Access lets them gather feedback and improve the game with players. For a buyer, the practical distinction is whether a partial story and systems that may change are appealing now, or whether it is preferable to wait for a fuller release.

Price, platform and PC requirements
Oxalis Games announced a launch price of $14.99 on September 29, 2026. Treat that as the announced launch price, not a guaranteed current price: the amount shown on Steam can vary by region and may have changed after launch. Steam reports full controller support, including Xbox controllers, so a controller is an option rather than a requirement. Steam Deck compatibility is listed as unknown. These are store-listed specifications and compatibility details, which can change; check Steam’s listing again if your device or setup is close to the minimum requirements.

That history helps explain why the current purchase question is about a premium single-player game and its incomplete Early Access content, rather than the earlier proposed model. The most useful expectations to set are the ones stated for the current build: a story still in progress, a limited initial cast and relationship cap, and a planned expansion of story, locations and events over time.
