Moonfrost is a premium PC farming-life RPG available in Steam Early Access from October 12, 2026. Start by following the active story task, gather only the resources it requests, plant a manageable plot, keep crops watered, and turn gathered materials into the blueprints or repairs that unlock the next feature. The game is still changing, so use the live Task Log and current item descriptions whenever an older guide conflicts with your build.
Moonfrost’s current Early Access scope
Moonfrost, made by Oxalis Games, is set in a world reshaped by meteor storms associated with a second moon. Farming is only one part of the opening: you can fish, cook, craft, explore, design a home, rebuild village businesses, and develop relationships with villagers. The official Steam listing describes the current build as a work in progress containing approximately the first half of the main storyline, temple progression through the first 20 rooms, several businesses to restore, 11 villagers whose relationships reach level 3 in this scope, home building, and hundreds of craftable blueprints. Those are content boundaries, not a promise of a particular number of hours.
For access information, use the dated Steam listing and Moonfrost’s October 2026 Steam launch news. An older FAQ on the studio site still uses demo-era wording, including both that a demo is being prepared and that one is playable; that page is not a reliable description of the post-launch Early Access state.
Because systems are being developed in public, a recipe, reward, control or unlock can change between patches. The safest habit is to treat the current task text, blueprint description and item tooltip as authoritative for your installation.

What should you do first?
- Open the active task. Check the Task Log on the Smartphone or through the dedicated task hotkey described in the older Wiki documentation. Read every requirement before spending materials.
- Mark the requested materials. Separate items needed for a story submission from items that are merely useful. Keep the former in storage instead of selling or converting them.
- Prepare a small field. Till enough soil for the seeds you actually have. A compact plot is easier to water consistently than a large field you cannot maintain.
- Gather while moving through the world. Collect common resources on the route to a task location, but do not empty your storage on decorations or speculative recipes before the objective is complete.
- Craft or submit only after checking the objective. Some chapter tasks ask for a crafted blueprint; others ask you to gather and hand in resources. Confirm the required item and destination in the live interface.
- Use the resulting unlock. A completed task may open a feature, location or narrative step. Visit the new area or station before starting an unrelated project so you understand what the unlock enables.
This sequence keeps story progress moving without turning the first day into a race for maximum crop output. When no task is urgent, choose one parallel activity—fishing, temple exploration, home building or relationship visits—and set a clear stopping point for the day.
How progression works
Moonfrost’s early game is organized around objectives rather than a single experience bar. Chapter tasks form the narrative spine. The older Wiki describes them as linear objectives that can request gathered resources or a crafted-and-submitted blueprint, with rewards such as story progress, a feature or a new location. The exact order and interface can change in Early Access, so follow the task wording in your current build instead of memorizing an online checklist.
Story tasks
Read the whole objective, including quantity, quality and delivery wording. “Craft” and “submit” are not interchangeable: making an item may not complete a task until you deliver it through the specified interaction. If a task names a location, keep the item in storage until you can reach that location safely. Completing a chapter objective is usually more valuable than selling the same materials for short-term currency because it can expose new systems.

Daily orders
The older task documentation distinguishes daily orders from chapter tasks. Orders exchange requested resources for Sil, while chapter tasks advance the story. Use an order when you have a surplus and its return supports an immediate need; do not assume an order reward unlocks the next narrative step. Menu labels, currencies and reward values in legacy documentation may differ from the Early Access build.
Choosing your next objective
When several activities are available, rank them by whether they unlock a feature or location, whether they require time-sensitive upkeep, and whether they consume materials needed by a story task. A task that opens a new station can have more long-term value than an attractive but optional decoration. If two goals are independent, complete the one that can be finished with materials already on hand, then gather for the longer project.
| Activity | Progression value | Typical return | Time or upkeep | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chapter task | Direct story, feature or location progress | Narrative advancement and an unlock described by the objective | Requires the listed materials or blueprint | Players who want the main path |
| Daily order | Usually indirect; supports the economy rather than the chapter sequence | Sil for the requested resources in the documented system | Uses items you might need elsewhere; reward rules may change | Players with surplus stock |
| Farming | Supplies requested ingredients and materials | Harvests and possible cooking or crafting inputs | Soil preparation and watering; crops documented as not growing on unwatered days | Players who enjoy a repeatable routine |
| Crafting and building | Can satisfy blueprint tasks and develop the home or village | Functional or decorative objects and restored spaces | Consumes gathered resources and blueprint requirements | Builders and decorators |
| Temple exploration | Opens exploration-focused discoveries and supports the wider progression loop | Exploration rewards, subject to current-room rules | Travel and preparation; exact hazards can change | Players who prefer discovery to field work |
| Relationships | Parallel character progression rather than a substitute for chapter tasks | Stronger connections and additional social content | Regular visits and suitable interactions | Players invested in villagers and story context |
Farming fundamentals
Prepare soil with the hoe
The documented tool roles are straightforward: the hoe tills soil, and an upgraded hoe can change the quality of tilled soil. Place your first plots where you can reach every tile without a long detour. Start with the area your current seeds justify; expanding before you can maintain it creates work without guaranteed progress.

Water every planted tile
The watering can supplies the daily maintenance crops need. The older tools page states that crops do not grow on days when they are not watered. This is a legacy mechanic description, so verify the behavior and any exceptions in your current build, but plan on watering every planted tile as a daily obligation. If you cannot complete that routine, plant fewer seeds rather than risking a field that stalls.
Plan around tasks, not an unverified profit chart
Current official material does not establish a reliable early-game ranking of crop profitability, seed prices, growth calendars or energy costs. Do not trust a table that claims a universally best crop unless it identifies the exact patch and conditions. Instead, select crops that satisfy an active request, provide ingredients for a recipe you can use, or fit the amount of time you can spend watering.
Upgrade tools when the game makes the benefit clear
The tools documentation says upgrades improve durability and capabilities, while upgraded hoes can alter tilled-soil quality. Before committing resources, read the current upgrade screen for its cost, materials and effect. A durability improvement is most valuable when a tool is interrupting your gathering route; a capability change matters when it lets you prepare or harvest an area required by a task. Exact upgrade recipes and prices from older guides should not be treated as current.
A practical field routine
- Check the Task Log for crop or ingredient requests.
- Count available seeds and reserve any named in a future submission.
- Till only the number of tiles you can water reliably.
- Plant, then water all planted tiles before leaving the area.
- Record what remains in storage so the next task does not trigger an unnecessary harvest or purchase.
Crafting, blueprints and building
Blueprints connect your gathered resources to both personal construction and wider restoration. The Early Access store description advertises hundreds of craftable blueprints, so the important beginner skill is not memorizing every recipe; it is controlling which recipes consume your limited materials.
Read a blueprint before gathering
Inspect the blueprint for its ingredients, station and any stated unlock condition. If a chapter task asks you to craft and submit a blueprint, keep the finished object separate until the task accepts it. Crafting a duplicate for decoration can delay the objective if both require the same uncommon component.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Separate functional and decorative projects
Functional objects can improve access to cooking, storage or other systems, while decorative pieces support home design. During the opening, favor an item that satisfies a task or opens a capability. Once the task queue is clear, spend surplus materials on the visual layout you want rather than dismantling a useful station for appearance.

Use storage as a planning tool
- Create a reserve for active story requirements.
- Keep a second group for recurring farming, cooking or tool maintenance.
- Sell or exchange only the remainder after checking upcoming task text.
- When a recipe is unfamiliar, make one copy first and confirm its behavior before committing a large batch.
Blueprint availability and station requirements may be adjusted during Early Access. If the in-game recipe differs from an older Wiki entry, follow the live blueprint and report the discrepancy through the game’s current support channels rather than forcing the old recipe.
Exploration, the temple and village restoration
Exploration is a progression route, not merely scenery. The current store scope includes temple advancement through the first 20 rooms and several village businesses to restore. A task may ask you to gather before entering, while another may become available only after a location or feature is opened.
When to explore
Explore when your active task points toward a location, when you have finished watering, or when you have enough supplies to absorb an unexpected detour. Keep a return route in mind; a long expedition that prevents crop maintenance can cost more than it reveals. If the game presents a new room or business interaction, read its requirements immediately so later gathering serves a specific purpose.
Restoring a business
Village restoration turns collected materials into a persistent community improvement. Treat each repair as a project: inspect the request, reserve its resources, gather the remainder, then return to complete the interaction. Do not assume that every repair has the same currency cost or unlock effect; those values are build-dependent.
Temple versus field time
Choose the temple when discovery is your priority or when a task directs you there. Choose farming when a crop or ingredient is explicitly requested and your watering schedule can support it. Neither route replaces the other: the game’s design places agriculture, exploration, crafting and restoration alongside one another.
Relationships and home design
Relationships provide a parallel way to engage with the village. The official Early Access description lists 11 villagers and relationship progression capped at level 3 in the current scope. Visit characters as part of a route you already travel, and check the live interaction text for suitable gifts or activities instead of relying on a legacy list.

Home building is similarly useful as both expression and planning. Place essential stations and storage where they shorten your daily loop; reserve a separate area for decorative experiments. Because blueprints can consume the same resources required by tasks, finish an active objective before committing to a large redesign. If an item can be moved without being destroyed, test a small layout first and expand after you understand the placement rules.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA repeatable early-game day
- Morning check: open the Task Log, review deadlines or quantities, and inspect crop condition.
- Field work: water every planted tile and harvest only what is needed or fully mature according to the current task.
- Route planning: choose a path that combines gathering with a destination such as a repair site, station or villager.
- Focused project: complete one objective—craft, restore, explore or socialize—instead of scattering resources across several unfinished projects.
- Storage pass: put task materials in reserve, label or group the rest, and avoid selling items whose future use is unknown.
- Evening review: reread the next task step and decide whether tomorrow begins with watering, gathering or a return visit.
This loop is deliberately conservative. It protects the two resources beginners most often waste: time spent walking back for forgotten materials and crops that stop progressing because their upkeep was too ambitious.

Planting more than you can water
Symptom: a large field remains unfinished at the end of the day. Fix: shrink the plot to a route you can water consistently, then expand after your routine and tool capability improve.
Selling a story item
Symptom: a chapter objective remains incomplete even though you previously owned the resource. Fix: read the Task Log before selling, keep named materials in a reserve container, and gather replacements only after confirming the current quantity.
Confusing an order with a chapter task
Symptom: an exchange produces Sil but the narrative does not advance. Fix: verify whether the request is listed under daily orders or chapter objectives; only the latter is documented as the story route.

Following an old recipe exactly
Symptom: a Wiki recipe, keybind or currency does not match your screen. Fix: trust the current blueprint, tooltip and Task Log, and treat older documentation as a description of a previous build.

Spending every material on decoration
Symptom: a home looks finished but a required station or repair cannot be built. Fix: reserve resources for the active task and one functional project before starting cosmetic work.
Assuming there is one optimal route
Symptom: you abandon a preferred activity because a guide labels it inefficient. Fix: compare the activity’s unlock value, resource return, upkeep and your own preference. Moonfrost supports several parallel routes, and current sources do not establish a definitive crop or tool ranking.
How to handle changing Early Access mechanics
When a patch changes a cost, room, recipe or menu, update your plan from the game outward:

- Check the item or tool tooltip for its present effect.
- Test a low-cost action before investing a large stockpile.
- Rebuild your daily route around the new requirement.
- Use the latest Steam patch notes and launch information for broad scope, while treating community Wiki pages as historical references unless their date matches your build.
This approach prevents a common Early Access problem: applying a precise old number to a system that has already been redesigned. It also keeps the guide’s broad strategy valid even when individual recipes or rewards move.
Early-game priorities at a glance
- Want the main story? Keep the Task Log open, gather its requested resources and complete blueprint submissions exactly as written.
- Want a stable farm? Start small, water every planted tile and expand only when upkeep is comfortable.
- Want to build? Reserve functional materials first, then spend surplus resources on home and village design.
- Want discovery? Use spare travel time for the temple and newly opened locations, returning in time for field maintenance.
- Want social progress? Add villager visits to routes you already make and verify current interaction requirements.
Moonfrost rewards a balanced routine: story tasks tell you what matters next, farming supplies dependable inputs, crafting turns them into progress, and exploration, restoration, relationships and design give you reasons to keep expanding beyond the first field.
