To unlock Plunderblade in Monster Hunter: World, reach the lower Rotten Vale, bring Raw Meat, and follow the Lynian Researcher’s lead to the Plunderers. After an Odogaron-related event, follow the Grimalkyne, leave the meat as bait, and approach the Plunderers when they emerge. The gadget then lets your Palico steal extra monster items during hunts.
What you need before you start
- Access to the lower areas of the Rotten Vale through story progression.
- At least one piece of Raw Meat to use as a lure.
Plunderblade is a Palico gadget, not a weapon for your hunter to equip. The unlock route described by the guides begins with the Lynian Researcher in the Rotten Vale and leads to the Plunderers, a Grimalkyne tribe. PowerPyx’s Palico gadget guide and GameSpot’s guide describe this route.
How to unlock Plunderblade
- Go to the lower Rotten Vale. Continue the main story until you can reach the Vale’s lower areas.
- Find and speak with the Lynian Researcher. The researcher points you toward the nearby Plunderers.
- Watch for the Odogaron-related event. The guides describe an event involving Odogaron before the Grimalkyne appears. Its timing may vary. If nothing happens, leave the area and return rather than waiting indefinitely in the same spot.
- Follow the Grimalkyne. Track it to its hiding place, then drop Raw Meat on the ground.
- Move away and let the Plunderers emerge. Give them room to approach and eat the bait. Once they appear, approach them to receive Plunderblade.
The sequence is the reported route in the cited guides; they do not establish a fixed wait time for the event.

What Plunderblade does during a hunt
When your Palico attacks a monster with Plunderblade equipped, it can steal monster-related items. The guides say gadget proficiency affects the amount or range of items it can obtain, so treat it as a source of extra materials—not a guaranteed way to get a particular rare drop or a substitute for a carve.
PowerPyx describes Palico gadget proficiency as increasing when the gadget is taken on quests, with additional active uses becoming available as proficiency rises. Its guide does not establish precise Plunderblade-specific thresholds, so there is no reliable threshold table to give here.

- Hunt to craft new Gear: defeat monsters and collect loot from fallen foes to craft equipment and weapons styled after the monsters that have been slain.
- SEAMLESS gameplay: players and monsters can move from One map area to another freely and without loading screens whilst gameplay also dynamically transitions between night and day.
When it makes sense to use Plunderblade
Equip it when extra monster items are more useful to you than another form of Palico support. If you would rather prioritize healing, defense, or a different support effect, choose another gadget instead. The cited guides do not provide comparative performance data, so the practical choice depends on what you want from a hunt.
