You can have one personal Palico companion in Monster Hunter: World. At camp, you choose whether your Palico joins your hunt or waits there. Other Palicoes and Grimalkynes can appear in Tailraider Safaris, but they are dispatched helpers—not additional companions following you on a hunt.
How many Palicos can you have?
Your hunter has one personal Palico. The game’s tutorial says: “Your Palico can be found in camp. Speak to them to choose whether to bring them with you on your hunt or have them wait until you return.”
That choice changes whether your companion accompanies you on a hunt; it does not let you recruit a second personal Palico. The tutorial wording is reproduced in the Monster Hunter World Chronicles.
Why do other Palicoes appear?
Other feline characters belong to separate support features. In particular, Tailraider Safaris let you dispatch teams to gather items and materials and unlock investigations while you are on quests or expeditions. The tutorial says Safari teams have three members and may include Palicoes recruited from your squad, received Guild Cards, or recent play partners, as well as Grimalkynes.
