Start with the docked mode that matches your priority: choose Prioritise Frame Rate for the lower 1920 × 1080 output target, or Prioritise Resolution for the higher 2240 × 1260 target. Both modes target 30fps, so this is not a 30fps-versus-60fps choice. In handheld mode, Capcom lists one 1536 × 864 output target at 30fps.
Those figures are output targets rather than guaranteed internal render resolutions. Capcom says render resolution changes with system load, upscaling can be applied, and frame rate may drop in some high-load situations.

What the Switch 2 graphics options actually do
Capcom’s published Switch 2 performance table describes two docked choices and one handheld configuration. The docked choices trade output sharpness for a lower output target, while both retain a 30fps target. There is no published Switch 2 mode targeting 60fps.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Play mode | Published option | Output resolution target | Frame-rate target | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Docked | Prioritise Resolution | 2240 × 1260 | 30fps | Higher output target; frame rate can drop under high load |
| Docked | Prioritise Frame Rate | 1920 × 1080 | 30fps | Lower output target; frame rate can still drop under high load |
| Handheld | Single listed configuration | 1536 × 864 | 30fps | No second handheld mode is published |
The practical decision is therefore about image detail and perceived consistency within a 30fps design, not about unlocking a 60fps performance mode. The recommendation to favor one docked option over the other is an interpretation of Capcom’s targets, not a claim that one mode has been independently benchmarked.

Which docked mode should you select first?
Choose Prioritise Frame Rate for steadier-looking motion
Select Prioritise Frame Rate when motion consistency matters more than the extra output pixels. Its published 1920 × 1080 target is lower than 2240 × 1260, giving the game a less demanding output goal. Both modes still target 30fps and both can fall below that target during demanding scenes, so “frame rate” here means a preference within the same 30fps target rather than a promise of a locked 30.
This is the sensible starting point for players who spend most of their time fighting large monsters, rotating the camera quickly, or sitting at a typical living-room distance where the difference between the two output targets is less obvious than uneven motion. If the picture looks sufficiently sharp on your television, leave this mode enabled.
Choose Prioritise Resolution for a sharper image at close range
Prioritise Resolution targets 2240 × 1260 output. That is the better fit if you sit close to a large display, can easily see fine geometry and distant detail, or prefer the cleanest possible image when the camera is relatively still. The mode remains a 30fps target, and Capcom warns that high-load situations can reduce frame rate.

Why neither option is a 60fps mode
Capcom’s published table lists 30fps for both docked configurations and for handheld play. It does not publish a 60fps target, an uncapped option, or a performance mode that raises the frame-rate ceiling. Selecting Prioritise Frame Rate therefore should not be expected to produce 60fps gameplay.
What “output resolution” means in practice
The listed numbers describe the resolution the system aims to send as output, not a guaranteed internal resolution for every frame. Capcom’s note states: “Render resolution changes depending on system load. If rendering resolution falls below output resolution, upscaling will be applied.”
During a light scene, the internal render may be closer to the selected output target. During a heavy fight, the game can reduce its internal render resolution to keep processing within budget, then upscale that image to the selected output. The result can look softer or show fewer fine details even though the selected mode has not changed.
- 2240 × 1260 output target: the higher docked target, but not a guarantee that every frame is rendered internally at that size.
- 1920 × 1080 output target: the lower docked target, selected when you prefer a less demanding image target.
- 1536 × 864 output target: the single handheld configuration listed by Capcom.
Because internal resolution is dynamic, a brief softness change in a busy scene does not necessarily mean the setting was reset. It can be the expected response to system load.

Handheld mode: what you can and cannot change
Capcom lists handheld play at 1536 × 864 output and a 30fps target. The published table does not provide a second handheld quality/performance selector. Do not assume that a hidden handheld toggle exists or that the docked choices carry over unchanged.
If you play primarily handheld, the first useful “setting” is simply to use the listed handheld configuration and evaluate it at normal viewing distance. A smaller screen can make the lower output target appear sufficiently sharp, while dynamic resolution may still soften complex scenes. If a launch update adds a separate handheld selector, its exact behavior should be checked against the game’s current menu and patch notes rather than inferred from the docked labels.
A practical setup sequence for launch day
The Switch 2 version is scheduled for December 4, 2026. Retail software and launch patches can change menus, so use this process with the version installed on your console.

- Identify your play mode. Decide whether you are evaluating docked output on a television or handheld output on the console screen. The published choices differ by mode.
- In docked mode, start with your priority. Pick Prioritise Frame Rate if motion consistency is your first concern, or Prioritise Resolution if close-range sharpness is more important.
- Play a representative hunt. Check camera movement, combat around multiple creatures, weather effects and crowded areas. A quiet training area cannot reveal the high-load behavior Capcom cautions about.
- Keep expectations at 30fps. Neither docked setting is published as a 60fps mode. Look for whether motion feels acceptable at the 30fps target, not for a 60fps counter.
- Recheck after major patches. If Capcom documents new graphics controls or revised performance targets, compare those notes with the labels and figures in your installed build.
How screen size and seating distance affect the choice
Resolution differences are easier to notice when a large display fills more of your field of view or when you sit close to it. At a normal living-room distance, the lower 1920 × 1080 target may provide a satisfactory picture while preserving more headroom for complex scenes. At a desk or close viewing distance, the 2240 × 1260 target can make distant geometry and small details look cleaner when the game is not reducing its internal render resolution.

- As a bonus, this Nintendo Switch bundle includes a digital code for monster Hunter Rise + Deluxe kit DLC that includes the game and additional in-game content.
This is a viewing-preference decision, not a universal ranking. Television processing, sharpening, and the quality of the display’s upscaler also affect the result. Keep the display in a neutral picture mode while comparing the two options; otherwise television sharpening can hide or exaggerate differences that originate in the game.
Understanding frame drops under load
Capcom explicitly says, “Frame rate may drop in some high-load situations.” The statement applies to the published Switch 2 configurations, so neither docked mode should be described as a guaranteed locked 30fps.
High-load situations can include visually busy combat, multiple large creatures, dense effects, or other scenes that require more rendering and simulation work. The available specification does not provide a percentage, duration, or precise scene list for those drops. Treat 30fps as the intended target and evaluate the game across demanding hunts rather than relying on a single calm location.

- Consistently soft image everywhere: verify which docked mode is selected, whether the console is actually docked, and whether the display is applying its own scaling.

Controls that are not confirmed for Switch 2
The published performance information does not enumerate individual settings for texture quality, foliage, shadows, volumetric fog, anti-aliasing, frame generation, variable refresh rate, or an uncapped frame rate. Those controls may exist on another platform, but their presence or behavior on Switch 2 cannot be assumed.

Common mistakes to avoid
Calling the numbers native resolution
“Native 2240 × 1260” or “native 1920 × 1080” overstates what Capcom published. Use “output resolution target,” because internal render resolution changes with system load and upscaling can occur.
Promising a locked 30fps
A 30fps target describes the intended performance level. Capcom’s high-load warning means the accurate description is “30fps target with possible drops,” not “locked 30fps.”
Assuming Frame Rate means 60fps
The label indicates which aspect the mode prioritizes relative to the resolution choice. Published targets for both docked modes remain 30fps.
Inventing a handheld performance toggle
Only one handheld configuration is listed. Until Capcom documents another option in the game or its patch notes, do not promise a handheld quality/performance switch.
What may change after release
The Switch 2 version is scheduled for December 4, 2026, so availability, launch software and post-launch updates are time-sensitive. Capcom has also announced that the Ascendance expansion is planned for Switch 2 in 2027, but that future content announcement does not establish different graphics targets for the base game.
After release, check the game’s own performance menu and Capcom’s update notes for any newly added graphics controls, revised output targets, or frame-rate changes. Until such information is published, the three configurations in the table above are the defensible reference points.
