Yes—Village Quests are a good starting point if you’re learning Monster Hunter Rise or want to play solo. They are a separate, solo-only progression track. For multiplayer, use Hub Quests; and if you plan to start Sunbreak, you’ll need to progress the base-game Hub track to its required 7★ quest.

Village and Hub Quests are separate progression tracks

The in-game Progress Guide shows Village and Gathering Hub progress as distinct categories, along with the current objective for each. Check it when you want to see what to do next in either track. Capcom’s Progress Guide manual describes the two categories.

What matters Village Quests Hub Quests
Progress tracking Shown as a separate Village category in the Progress Guide. Shown as a separate Gathering Hub category in the Progress Guide.
Multiplayer Other players cannot join; Join Requests are disabled. Use Hub Quests to hunt with other players.
Sunbreak access No Village quest is identified as the unlock requirement. Capcom names the Hub 7★ quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder” as the requirement.

These tracks serve different purposes, so completing Village objectives should not be treated as a substitute for the Hub progress required for Sunbreak.

Choose Village if you’re starting solo

If you’re new to the series and playing alone, Village is a sensible place to begin. Its solo-only format gives you a dedicated route to follow without needing to coordinate with other hunters. The Progress Guide helps you keep track of Village objectives separately from Hub objectives.

Monster Hunter Rise - Nintendo Switch Standard Edition
  • The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
  • The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
  • New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
  • In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
  • Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in local or online co-op play. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone!

The official sources cited here do not establish a precise Village-versus-Hub comparison for monster health, difficulty, or rewards. Don’t assume one track is easier or offers particular rewards based on unsupported comparisons.

Choose Hub Quests to play with friends

Village Quests cannot be played with other hunters. Capcom’s multiplayer instructions say Village Quests are unavailable for multiplayer and direct players who want to hunt together to Hub Quests. Capcom’s multiplayer manual gives that guidance.

If co-op is your priority, start or continue in the Hub rather than planning a Village hunt with friends. Village and Hub progress are tracked separately, so check the Progress Guide for the current objective in the track you intend to advance.

For Sunbreak, advance the Hub to the named 7★ quest

To access Sunbreak, Capcom Support identifies the base-game Hub 7★ quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder” as the required quest. Village progress alone does not meet the requirement named in that support article. Capcom Support’s Sunbreak instructions state the requirement.
