You can use New Relic’s Kubernetes integration to monitor a Raspberry Pi cluster when its Linux environment and the relevant container images support ARM64. That is architecture-level support, not certification of every Pi model, operating system, Kubernetes distribution, or chart component. Check those details for your cluster before installing.

What New Relic can monitor in a Pi Kubernetes cluster

The integration collects Kubernetes node and object telemetry, including information about namespaces, deployments, ReplicaSets, pods, and containers. Its Kubelet component runs as a DaemonSet, placing an instance on each Linux node to gather node-local metrics. Other components can collect Kubernetes object state and control-plane metrics, depending on the installation and the access your cluster provides.

New Relic groups its Kubernetes components in the nri-bundle Helm chart. The newrelic-infrastructure chart provides the main infrastructure agent; nrk8s-kubelet gathers Kubelet metrics, nrk8s-ksm collects object state, and nrk8s-controlplane gathers control-plane metrics where available. See New Relic’s component descriptions for details.

Check ARM64 and Kubernetes compatibility first

New Relic documents ARM64 support for the infrastructure agent on compatible Linux operating systems, and its containerized infrastructure agent documentation lists ARM64 and AMD64 image support. Neither statement confirms support for every Raspberry Pi board, Pi OS release, Kubernetes distribution, or image used by every bundle component. The architecture of the agent alone does not establish that the whole deployment can run on a particular cluster.

Before installation, verify:

  • Each node’s CPU architecture and whether its Linux userland is 64-bit ARM-compatible.
  • Your Kubernetes distribution and version against New Relic’s live compatibility requirements. As of this article’s October 11, 2026 publication date, that page lists Kubernetes 1.32–1.36 as continuously tested.
  • The architecture support of each image for the bundle components you plan to enable, not just the infrastructure agent.
  • Scheduling behavior if your cluster mixes ARM64 and AMD64 nodes. Confirm that every enabled component can run on the node types to which Kubernetes may schedule it.

New Relic’s current requirements page calls for Helm v3 for the chart installation path. Compatibility information can change, so check the linked page when you deploy.

Install with the nri-bundle Helm chart

You need a New Relic account and license key, a compatible cluster, and Helm v3. New Relic’s Kubernetes installation guide is the reference for current chart options and commands; use it alongside the compatibility checks above rather than assuming a command or setting will remain unchanged.

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 5 16GB Starter Kit PRO - Turbine Black (128GB Edition) (16GB RAM)
  • Includes Raspberry Pi 5 16GB with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (16GB RAM)
  • Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
  • CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5

  • Mega Heat Sink - Black Anodized
  1. Confirm the cluster and node architectures. Check the Kubernetes version, Linux environment, and whether the cluster is ARM64-only or mixed-architecture. Verify the images for the components you intend to deploy.
  2. Prepare the license key securely. The integration requires a New Relic license key. Supply it through your established secret-management approach; do not commit it to a public repository or expose it in shared configuration.
  3. Install or upgrade the bundle using the current New Relic guide. Follow the Helm v3 procedure and chart values in New Relic’s installation documentation. Set global.cluster to a useful cluster name: this is the name displayed for the cluster in the New Relic UI.
  4. Check the resulting workloads and telemetry. Verify that the DaemonSet has an instance on each intended Linux node, that other enabled components are running, and that the cluster appears in New Relic with the expected node and object data. Investigate image-pull, scheduling, or permissions errors in the cluster before treating missing data as an agent problem.

New Relic also documents a custom-manifest workflow, but its guidance warns that manifest installation and upgrades are unsupported and prone to errors. Helm’s nri-bundle is the documented bundle route; use manifests only if you understand and accept those limitations. The custom-manifest documentation also says the bundle should install Kube State Metrics unless it is already present in the cluster.

Choose telemetry that fits a small cluster

Start with the core infrastructure and Kubernetes object telemetry you need to see node and workload health. The bundle can also involve optional capabilities such as events, Prometheus endpoints, logging, or application APM enrichment. Enable additional components only when they answer a monitoring need: each can add resource use or data volume. Review the current installation options before turning them on.

Control-plane visibility depends on the cluster. A self-managed Pi cluster may expose control-plane components differently from hosted Kubernetes, where the provider manages or abstracts the masters. New Relic’s installation guidance describes worker-only monitoring for several managed offerings; do not interpret that limitation as a general restriction on a self-managed cluster.

Diagnose common deployment problems

  • Image pull or execution errors: Check whether the failing image supports that node’s architecture. In a mixed cluster, ensure the component can be scheduled only where a compatible image is available.
  • A DaemonSet pod is missing on a node: Check node labels, taints, tolerations, and scheduling events. Confirm that the node is Linux and that the component is eligible to run there.
  • Nodes appear but object or control-plane data is absent: Check which components were enabled and whether they have the required access. Control-plane collection depends on what the cluster exposes.
  • Resource pressure increases: Review actual usage and enabled features, then adjust requests or limits and disable telemetry you do not need. New Relic’s figures are starting recommendations, not a promise of low overhead on a constrained board.
