In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, change your Activision Display Name from Options > ACCOUNT > Activision Account > CHANGE DISPLAY NAME. You need an available username change token to confirm the change. You can also edit the Activision ID in your account’s Basic Info online.
Change your name in Modern Warfare

From the game’s home screen, open Options.

Select ACCOUNT, then Activision Account.

Choose CHANGE DISPLAY NAME, enter the name you want, and confirm. The change uses a username change token, so your account must have one available.
These are the menu labels documented by Activision Support. If your installation shows different labels, follow the labels in your game or use the online account route below; the support instructions do not specify a build number or platform-specific menu variations.

Change your Activision ID online

Sign in to your Activision account.

Open BASIC INFO.

Select EDIT beside ACTIVISION ID, enter the display name you want, and save.

Activision documents this as an alternative method. Its instructions do not establish that verification prompts are identical for every account or session. See the official Modern Warfare account instructions.
Understand the Activision ID and change tokens
The Activision ID is the Display Name other players see in-game. It includes a numeric suffix after a hash mark, for example DisplayName#1234567. Activision says the number is unique to the Activision account, so it distinguishes players who use the same platform handle, such as a Gamertag, PSN ID, BattleTag, or SteamID.

Activision’s Modern Warfare support article says an account receives a new username change token every six months and can hold up to two tokens at a time. It describes the token as an account entitlement; it does not describe a physical token for purchase. The article does not state when the six-month interval begins or how to view your token balance.

Activision says its name filter restricts profanity and other names players might find offensive. The support article notes that names in that category were replaced with randomly generated names; it does not list the complete current filter, so a particular name cannot be guaranteed to pass. Activision’s Terms of Service also say it may change or remove names it considers offensive or improper.

Which change route should you use?
Use the in-game route when you are already playing Modern Warfare; use the account website if you prefer to edit Basic Info outside the game. Activision documents both methods but does not compare their speed or reliability.
