Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. Season 1 arrives shortly afterward and connects the game with Call of Duty: Warzone through shared seasonal content and progression. That means Battle Pass progress earned in either title can form part of the same seasonal experience once Season 1 is live. The digital Vault Edition adds one season of BlackCell, 1,100 COD Points, 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips and exclusive items, but its Battle Pass benefits do not activate until the Season 1 Battle Pass is available in-game.
When Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 starts
Activision has confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23, 2026, with Season 1 following shortly after. The publisher has not announced an exact Season 1 launch date, season length or complete roadmap in the official material currently available. “Shortly after” should therefore not be treated as a specific number of days.
Season 1 is planned as the beginning of a larger year of content and seasonal experiences spanning Modern Warfare 4 and Call of Duty: Warzone. New operators, weapons, blueprints, cosmetic items, challenges and other rewards will be delivered through the seasonal system, but the final reward list and release schedule have not been published.

This distinction matters if you are deciding whether to buy a premium edition before release. The contents of the Vault Edition are specified, but the timing of individual seasonal drops and the amount of play needed to complete the pass are not.

How the connected Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone progression works
Beginning in Season 1, Warzone will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression as part of a connected experience between both games. In practical terms, the Battle Pass belongs to the season rather than being an isolated reward track that only one game can advance.
What “connected experience” means
- Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone share the Season 1 seasonal framework.
- Modern Warfare 4 content can be integrated into Warzone when the season begins.
- Seasonal progression is designed to carry across the connected titles rather than requiring a separate pass for each game.
- The exact rules for every item’s use, such as whether a particular weapon or cosmetic is available in both games, have not been fully published.
The safest expectation is that playing either title can contribute to the same seasonal Battle Pass progression once the pass is active. Do not assume that every Modern Warfare 4 item will function identically in Warzone; availability can depend on the item and on the game’s live-service rules.
Battle Pass progression versus game-level progression
Battle Pass progress is a seasonal reward track. It advances toward unlocks such as weapons, blueprints, operator skins, COD Points, XP Tokens and other cosmetics. It is separate from your permanent account and loadout systems.

What comes with the Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition
The Vault Edition is digital-only. It includes the base game access associated with the edition plus one season of the Modern Warfare 4 BlackCell Battle Pass and its listed instant rewards. Activision also offers the Vault Edition as an upgrade for owners of the Digital Standard Edition.

The “over 100 unlockable rewards” figure describes the full Battle Pass reward pool, not a promise that every item is delivered immediately. The 1,100 COD Points, 20 Tier Skips and specified BlackCell items are the instant components; the remaining rewards are earned through the seasonal track.

The exact appearance, order and tier assignment of those rewards have not been released. “Over 100” is the confirmed count description; it is not a published tier map.

When Vault Edition benefits unlock
The timing depends on when you obtain the edition.
If you preorder or prepurchase
Activision says the one-season BlackCell Battle Pass is available at the start of Season 1. The official Modern Warfare 4 site states that BlackCell, the Battle Pass, Call of Duty Points and Tier Skips become accessible in Modern Warfare 4 when the Season 1 Battle Pass is available in-game.
If you buy or upgrade after launch
If you purchase the Vault Edition or upgrade after Modern Warfare 4 launches, the entitlement is granted at the start of the first new season after that transaction. That may be Season 1 if you buy before Season 1 begins, or a later season if you buy after the current season has already started. Check the in-game entitlement screen before purchasing so you understand which season is covered.
How long the redemption lasts
The BlackCell and Battle Pass redemption covers one season of the Modern Warfare 4 Battle Pass. It is not described as a permanent Battle Pass subscription or an entitlement covering every future season. Once that season ends, a later season would require its own eligibility or purchase under the rules in effect at that time.
How to use the Battle Pass once Season 1 is live
- Install and launch Modern Warfare 4. Sign in with the account that owns the edition or Battle Pass entitlement.
- Wait for the Season 1 Battle Pass to become available in-game. The edition benefits are gated by that availability, even if you purchased the game earlier.
- Open the seasonal Battle Pass screen. Confirm that BlackCell, COD Points and the 20 Tier Skips appear on the account.
- Review the reward track. The game should show the current season’s available rewards and any required unlock conditions.
- Play Modern Warfare 4 or the connected Warzone experience. Seasonal activity in the connected titles is intended to contribute to the same progression system, subject to the live rules shown in-game.
- Spend or retain COD Points carefully. The included 1,100 COD Points are an account currency grant; using them on another item does not extend the one-season BlackCell entitlement.
If the content does not appear when Season 1 is live, verify that you are using the purchasing account, that the correct platform account is linked, and that the game has completed its latest update. If the entitlement remains missing, use the platform’s purchase history and the game’s support process rather than buying the pass again.

How many Battle Pass tiers are there?
Official materials confirm that the Vault Edition Battle Pass contains over 100 unlockable rewards. They do not provide a definitive tier-by-tier chart or state a single final tier number in the information available here. Rewards and tiers are therefore not interchangeable terms: a pass can contain more than 100 individual rewards distributed across its progression structure.
Until Activision publishes the Season 1 interface or a complete reward map, claims about a precise tier count, the number of pages, the XP needed per tier or the time required to finish the pass are unconfirmed. Avoid guides that present those figures as official before the in-game track is visible.

Physical editions are listed for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The Vault Edition itself is digital-only, although owners of the Digital Standard Edition can upgrade to it.

Retail availability, pricing, regional packaging and stock can vary. Before ordering a physical copy, confirm the platform, region and whether the listing is the Standard Edition or another package. A physical copy should not be assumed to include Vault Edition benefits unless the listing explicitly says so.

What is not yet known about Season 1
Several details that players commonly look for remain unannounced:
- The exact Season 1 start date.
- The season’s end date or total duration.
- A complete roadmap of mid-season and launch content.
- The final tier-by-tier reward table.
- Battle Pass XP rates, match bonuses and the formula used to advance.
- The precise rules for every Modern Warfare 4 item’s use in Warzone.
These gaps are normal for a pre-season announcement, but they affect planning. You can decide whether the Vault Edition’s guaranteed contents are worthwhile; you cannot yet calculate a verified completion schedule or map every reward to a tier.
Practical buying and progression decisions
Choose the Standard Edition when
- You want access to Modern Warfare 4 without committing to premium seasonal content.
- You prefer to inspect Season 1’s actual reward track before buying BlackCell.
- You want a physical Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 copy.
Choose the Vault Edition when
- You want the digital-only package’s 1,100 COD Points and 20 Tier Skips.
- You value the exclusive BlackCell Operator and Weapon Blueprint.
- You intend to play during the season covered by the entitlement and want the full premium reward track.
- You are comfortable with the fact that the exact tier map and season schedule are not yet published.
Plan around the season gate
Buying before launch does not make the Battle Pass immediately usable. The relevant trigger is the in-game availability of the Season 1 Battle Pass. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing preorder benefits with items that unlock on purchase.
