If a Modern Warfare 4 keypad code is rejected, a lock does nothing, or the game will not accept controller or keyboard input, do not assume the code is wrong. The failure can come from a frozen interaction state, an unregistered input device, outdated game or system software, or a PC overlay that captures input. Work through the checks below in order, then report the problem if the same mission and symptom persist.
There is no official universal keypad or lock code for Modern Warfare 4. A code that works in one mission, difficulty, or patch cannot be treated as a code for every lock. Verify the exact mission and objective before trying any number.
What “code not working” can mean
Players generally describe one of three different failures:

- Prompt appears, but input is ignored: You can open the interaction, yet digits, directional input, or confirmation does not register.
- The interaction, mission, or game freezes: The screen stops responding, the game returns to the dashboard, or the PC build becomes unresponsive.
These symptoms require different checks. A missing prompt usually indicates that the mission objective or trigger has not become active. A prompt that ignores input points more often to a controller, keyboard, connection, remapping, or overlay problem. A freeze should be treated as a software fault first, not as evidence that the code is incorrect.

Before troubleshooting: record the exact situation
Write down the details before changing settings. This makes it easier to determine whether the problem is local to your setup or tied to a particular mission or patch, and it gives Activision useful information if you file a report.
- Mission name and the objective shown on screen.
- Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Switch 2.
- Game version or patch number, if the title screen or platform menu displays it.
- Input method: standard controller, third-party controller, keyboard and mouse, or a combination.
- Exact symptom: no prompt, prompt with no acceptance, crash, freeze, or return to the dashboard.
- Whether a restart, an update, or a different input device changes the behavior.
Do not repeatedly enter an unverified number while collecting these details. Brute-forcing a code does not repair an inactive interaction and can make it harder to tell whether the mission state has changed.
Use this repair order first
The following sequence follows Activision’s general guidance for freezes and input interference. Complete a step, then test the same keypad or lock before moving to the next one.

- Confirm the mission state. Return to the objective text and check that the keypad or lock is the active target. Approach it only after the interaction prompt appears. If the mission requires a preceding action, complete that action before testing the lock.
- Quit and relaunch Modern Warfare 4. Exit to the platform dashboard or desktop, close the game rather than leaving it suspended, and start it again. Reload the mission and return to the same interaction.
- Reboot the platform. If relaunching does not help, restart the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Switch 2. Activision specifically recommends quitting and restarting the game and, when necessary, rebooting the console when the game freezes.
- Install pending updates. Update the console or Windows system software, then update Modern Warfare 4 itself. An outdated system or game build can leave an interaction script out of sync with the current mission data.
- Reconnect the input device. Turn the controller off and on, reconnect a wired cable, or pair the wireless device again. On a PC, unplug and reconnect the keyboard or mouse. Test another USB port when one is available.
- Remove competing software on PC. Close input-remapping utilities, overlays, recording applications, and other background programs before launching the game. Activision warns that these applications can interfere with gameplay or disrupt the boot process.
- Retry with the objective active. Load the mission again, wait for the prompt, and use the intended confirmation control. Test one input method at a time so you can identify whether the controller or keyboard is responsible.
- Check known issues and report an unlisted fault. Review Activision’s continuously updated known-issues page. If the keypad, lock, or input symptom is not listed, submit a Modern Warfare 4 bug report with the platform, mission, patch, exact steps, and result.
Fixes by platform
PlayStation 5
- Close Modern Warfare 4 from the PlayStation home screen instead of resuming a suspended session.
- Restart the console and launch the game again.
- Check for both console software and game updates.
- Reconnect the DualSense controller. If it is wireless, pair it again; if you normally use a cable, try a different USB port or a known-good cable.
- Load the affected mission from a fresh launch and wait for the interaction prompt before pressing a key.
If the controller works in menus but not at one keypad, record the mission and objective rather than assuming the controller is defective. A single interaction that fails after a clean restart and current updates may be a mission-specific bug.
Xbox Series X|S
- Quit the game completely, then restart the console.
- Install all available Xbox system and Modern Warfare 4 updates.
- Reconnect the controller or test a second controller if one is available.
- Re-enter the mission from a new launch and confirm that the objective is active.
The known-issues information currently identifies a resolved Xbox-on-PC Campaign launch issue. That entry does not establish a universal keypad or lock-input fix, so do not apply its resolution to every Xbox interaction problem.
PC
- Exit the game and restart Windows if the game froze or stopped accepting input.
- Install pending Windows updates and update the graphics-card driver.
- Close overlays, recording tools, input remappers, and other background applications before starting the game.
- Reconnect the keyboard, mouse, or controller. Try another USB port, a wired connection, or a spare device.
- Launch the game with one input method active. If the controller is connected, temporarily remove the keyboard or remapping layer while testing, then reverse the test.
- Return to the mission only after the objective and interaction prompt are visible.
Activision does not guarantee functionality with third-party controllers, chips, memory cards, or cables. A third-party device that works in Windows or another game can still fail to deliver the input Modern Warfare 4 expects.

Switch 2
- Quit the game rather than leaving it suspended.
- Restart the console and install pending system and game updates.
- Detach and reconnect the controller, or pair it again if using a wireless connection.
- Test the interaction from a newly launched mission with no other controller connected.
If the problem remains limited to one mission, capture the mission name, objective text, and patch information for a bug report. Do not assume that a code published for another platform or version applies to Switch 2.

Controller and keyboard checks
When using a controller
- Confirm that the controller is assigned to the same player profile that launched the game.
- Reconnect it after the game has fully loaded, then test the interaction again.
- Try wired instead of wireless, or wireless instead of wired, to isolate a connection problem.
- Use another USB port and, if possible, a known-good controller that is compatible with the platform.
- Remove unapproved adapters, chips, memory cards, and cables while testing. Activision does not guarantee third-party accessory functionality.
When using keyboard and mouse on PC
- Reconnect both devices and test a different USB port.
- Close software that changes key assignments, displays an overlay, records video, or injects an on-screen control layer.
- Make sure only the intended device is being tested. A connected controller or virtual gamepad can capture the confirmation input.
- Update the graphics-card driver and Windows before repeating the mission.
Do not change several remapping profiles at once. Disable one source of input interference, test, and record the result. That creates a reproducible diagnosis instead of a collection of untracked changes.

Only treat a number as valid when it is tied to the exact mission, objective, platform, and game version. Modern Warfare 4’s official support information does not publish one keypad or lock code that works everywhere. A number copied from a different mission, an earlier patch, or another platform may be irrelevant.

Use this decision path:
- Read the current objective and verify that the keypad or lock is the required target.
- Wait for the interaction prompt; without it, entering numbers is unlikely to advance the mission.
- Confirm that input works in another in-game control immediately before testing the lock.
- After a restart and update, try the verified mission-specific code once.
- If the prompt accepts no input or the interaction freezes, stop testing numbers and troubleshoot the device or report the mission behavior.
When a replacement controller is justified
A replacement controller is a diagnostic fallback, not the first fix. Consider one only after restarting, updating, reconnecting, disabling PC interference, and testing another port have failed.

If a second compatible controller behaves exactly the same way at the same mission lock, the original controller is less likely to be the root cause. Record that comparison for support instead of repeatedly buying accessories.

Use Activision’s Modern Warfare 4 bug-report workflow when the issue survives a relaunch, reboot, updates, and input isolation, or when the same steps reproduce a freeze. Include:
- Platform and whether you used a controller or keyboard and mouse.
- Mission name, objective text, and the location or description of the keypad or lock.
- Game patch and platform software version.
- Whether the prompt was missing, appeared but ignored input, or caused a freeze or crash.
- What happened after quitting, rebooting, updating, reconnecting the device, and disabling PC background applications.
- Whether a second controller, keyboard, cable, USB port, or connection type changed the result.
- Reproduction steps in order, including the action immediately before the failure.
A short video or screenshot showing the objective and the non-responsive interaction can clarify the report, provided it does not expose account or personal information.
Bottom line
Modern Warfare 4 has no single official keypad code that fixes every mission. First activate the correct objective, then quit and relaunch the game, reboot the platform if needed, install current system and game updates, reconnect the input device, and remove PC overlays, remappers, recording tools, and other background applications. If another compatible device behaves the same way and the symptom is absent from the known-issues list, submit a detailed bug report instead of guessing more codes.
