Yes. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (the 2022 game) supports crossplay, so players on supported PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions can play together. Cross-progression also works when those platforms are linked to the same Activision account: your rank, statistics, weapon and camo progress, Battle Pass progress and unlocked customization content follow that account. Crossplay does not transfer the game license, and COD Points plus some purchases remain tied to the platform where they were bought or earned.
What crossplay means in Modern Warfare 2
Activision describes crossplay as continuing with the launch of Modern Warfare II and allowing players on all supported platforms to play together. In practical terms, matchmaking can place console and PC players in the same Multiplayer, Special Ops or Warzone session when the relevant versions, accounts and settings permit it.
“All platforms” means the supported console generations and the supported PC storefront editions available in your country. The exact edition, storefront, online-service availability and local purchase options can change, so check the listing for your region before buying. Crossplay is a gameplay feature, not a universal license: owning a copy on one platform does not give you a second copy on another platform.

| Platform choice | Crossplay with other supported platforms | Crossplay control | Progression when the same Activision account is linked | Second-platform license |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 edition | Yes, with supported Xbox and PC editions | Console players can change the setting. On PlayStation: Options → Settings → Account & Network → Crossplay. Crossplay is enabled by default. | Rank, stats, weapon progression, camo progression, Battle Pass progress and unlocked customization content follow the Activision account. | A separate PlayStation purchase is required for the PlayStation edition; crossplay does not supply another platform license. |
| Xbox One or Xbox Series edition | Yes, with supported PlayStation and PC editions | Console players can enable or disable crossplay; Activision does not publish one universal menu path for every Xbox interface. | Progression listed by Activision is available on every linked platform using the same Activision account. | A separate Xbox purchase is required when moving from another platform. |
| PC edition through a supported storefront | Yes, with supported PlayStation and Xbox editions | Activision’s cited instructions do not provide one universal PC menu path for the crossplay control. | Account-based progression and Battle Pass content are available on linked platforms, subject to the COD Point and purchase restrictions below. | A separate PC license is required; a console purchase is not a PC license. |
The table describes account and licensing rules, not a promise that every storefront or edition is sold in every country. Confirm the platform edition shown in your local store before checkout.
How cross-progression works
Activision states that “Game progression is stored on your Activision account.” That account, rather than the console family by itself, is the key to carrying progress between platforms. Each platform profile must be linked to the same Activision account; using separate Activision accounts creates separate progression histories.
Progress that follows the account
- Military rank and overall player progression.
- Statistics recorded for the game, subject to the current Combat Records restriction described below.
- Weapon progression, including weapon unlock progress.
- Camo progression.
- Unlocked customization content such as camos and other customization items.
- Battle Pass progress and content unlocked through the Battle Pass.
At launch, Activision described Modern Warfare II’s progression as containing 55 Military Ranks. That figure identifies the launch rank structure; it does not change the account-linking rule.

What account linking does not do
Cross-progression does not turn one purchase into a multi-platform entitlement. You can use eligible progress on another linked platform, but you still need that platform’s copy of the game and any required online access. A PlayStation purchase therefore does not become an Xbox or PC license merely because the accounts are linked.
COD Points and purchases: the important exceptions
COD Points do not behave exactly like rank or weapon progress. Activision identifies platform restrictions for both COD Points and items bought with money.
| Item or balance | Where it can be used | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| COD Points earned through a Battle Pass tier | Only on the platform where that Battle Pass tier was unlocked | Do not assume a Battle Pass COD Point reward earned on PlayStation will appear as spendable on Xbox or PC. |
| COD Points purchased with real money | Only on the platform where they were purchased | Buy the balance on the platform where you intend to spend it. |
| Content purchased with real money | Only on the platform where it was purchased, according to Activision’s cross-progression guidance | Linking accounts does not create a second-platform entitlement for that purchase. |
| Content purchased with COD Points | Usable on linked platforms | The purchased item can follow the Activision account even though the COD Point balance itself is platform-bound. |
| Battle Pass progress and Battle Pass-unlocked content | Linked platforms using the same Activision account | Progress made on one platform remains available when you play on another, while the COD Point exception still applies. |
These rules explain why a cosmetic item may appear on a second platform while a remaining COD Point balance does not. They also explain why crossplay should not be treated as a way to avoid buying a platform-specific edition or to duplicate a cash purchase.

How to set up crossplay and cross-progression
- Use one Activision account. Sign in to the Activision account you intend to keep as the account of record for Modern Warfare II.
- Link each platform profile to that account. Link the PlayStation, Xbox or PC platform identity you will use. The account, not the hardware, is where the game stores the progression described by Activision.
- Launch the same game edition on the second platform. Verify that you are opening Modern Warfare II rather than a different Call of Duty title or a separate Warzone-era experience.
- Check the displayed account identity. Before playing, confirm that the second platform is signed into the same Activision account. If it is not, progress and unlocks will appear to be missing because they belong to another account.
- Set the console crossplay preference if needed. On PlayStation, open Options → Settings → Account & Network → Crossplay. PlayStation crossplay starts enabled by default. Activision does not provide one universal path that applies to every console or PC storefront, so use the settings presented by your platform.
- Play a progression-eligible mode. Multiplayer, Special Ops and Warzone play count toward overall player progression and Battle Pass progression under Activision’s rules.
If you change platform, do not create a second Activision account simply because the new device offers a fresh sign-in screen. First verify which account holds the existing rank and unlocks.

Activision says Multiplayer and Special Ops in Modern Warfare II, along with Warzone play, contribute to overall player progression and Battle Pass progression. That means progress made in one of those supported experiences can advance the same account-level progression used elsewhere, provided you are using the same Activision account.
Warzone 2.0 is not Warzone Caldera
The Season 01 overview distinguishes Warzone 2.0 from Warzone Caldera. They are separate experiences. Older games’ progression, inventories, Battle Pass content, weapons and bundles remain in Caldera and their respective games. Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 content is not available in Caldera.

Consequently, seeing a familiar Call of Duty item in an older experience is not evidence that a Modern Warfare II unlock failed to transfer. Check which Warzone experience you launched before troubleshooting account progression.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you turn crossplay off?
Yes. Activision says console players can enable or disable crossplay. On PlayStation, use Options → Settings → Account & Network → Crossplay; the default is enabled. The support material does not state one identical path for every Xbox model, PC storefront or future interface, so the available control is platform-dependent.
Turning crossplay off changes matchmaking participation; it does not unlink your Activision account and does not erase rank, weapon progress, camos or Battle Pass progress. It also does not alter the platform restrictions on COD Points or paid purchases.

What the current records restriction means
The latest Activision cross-progression article, updated July 15, 2026, states: “Leaderboards and Combat Records have been permanently disabled in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.” This is a game feature restriction, not a crossplay setting.
You should therefore distinguish between progression that still applies to the account—such as rank, weapon and camo progression—and the unavailable leaderboard or Combat Record displays. A missing Combat Record is not evidence that your linked accounts are wrong.
Common crossplay and progression problems
A friend is on another console, but you cannot play together
- Confirm that both players are using Modern Warfare II and not different Call of Duty titles or the separate Warzone Caldera experience.
- Check that console crossplay is enabled where the platform exposes the setting.
- Verify that each player is using the Activision account intended for cross-platform play.
- Check the edition and online-service availability for each player’s country; storefront and service status can change.
Your rank or camos are missing on the second platform
- Sign out and verify the Activision account linked to the second platform.
- Compare the account identity with the one used on the original platform before playing further.
- Make sure you launched Modern Warfare II rather than Warzone Caldera or another older game.
Your COD Points are not visible everywhere
This can be expected. COD Points earned from a Battle Pass tier can be spent only on the platform where that tier was unlocked, and COD Points bought with money remain on the purchasing platform. Content bought with COD Points can be used on linked platforms, so distinguish the balance from the item you purchased.

A paid bundle appears on only one platform
Activision’s rule is that content bought with real money can only be used on the platform where it was purchased. Account linking and crossplay do not convert that transaction into a second-platform license.
Choosing a platform when you plan to switch devices
Choose the platform on which you expect to spend money and play most often, then keep one Activision account across your devices. The account-based system protects rank and gameplay unlocks, but platform-bound licenses, COD Point balances and cash purchases still make the original storefront important.
| If your priority is… | Plan for |
|---|---|
| Playing with friends on different hardware | Use supported editions, link the same Activision account and leave crossplay enabled on the relevant console settings. |
| Moving from console to PC | Buy the PC edition separately, then link it to the Activision account holding your progression. |
| Spending COD Points after switching platforms | Spend platform-bound balances on the platform where they were earned or purchased; do not assume the balance follows you. |
| Keeping Battle Pass progress | Use the same Activision account. Battle Pass progress and unlocked Battle Pass content follow that account, subject to the COD Point exception. |
| Checking competitive history | Do not rely on Modern Warfare II Leaderboards or Combat Records; Activision says both were permanently disabled as of its July 15, 2026 update. |
Bottom line
Modern Warfare 2 is crossplay-enabled across supported PlayStation, Xbox and PC editions. Use one Activision account to carry rank, stats, weapon and camo progress, Battle Pass progress and unlocked customization content between linked platforms. Buy each platform edition separately, and treat COD Points and real-money purchases as platform-restricted unless Activision specifically identifies the item as transferable. On PlayStation, crossplay is on by default and is controlled at Options → Settings → Account & Network → Crossplay.
