Which is more of a coming-of-age story?
Both qualify, but they mark maturity in opposite directions. Mixtape treats growing up as a social transition. The friends are approaching the end of high school, and the emotional weight comes from knowing that shared routines, private jokes and familiar places may soon become memories.
The Artful Escape treats growing up as an artistic separation. Francis must confront the expectations attached to his uncle’s name and decide what kind of performer he wants to be.
