Yes—you can mirror an Android phone to a MacBook. For a direct setup, use scrcpy: connect the phone to the Mac with a USB data cable, enable USB debugging on Android, then launch scrcpy on the Mac. It can also let you control the phone with the Mac’s keyboard and mouse. If you prefer a casting client, AirDroid Cast is another documented option.
Use scrcpy for a straightforward wired connection
Scrcpy mirrors Android screens on macOS over USB or TCP/IP and supports control with a computer keyboard and mouse. The project says it does not require root access or an app installed on the phone. Its stated minimum is Android API 21 (Android 5.0); audio forwarding requires API 30 (Android 11) or later. These are project-stated capabilities, not independent performance test results. See the official scrcpy documentation for current requirements and troubleshooting.
- Install scrcpy on the Mac. Follow the project’s macOS installation guide, which documents Homebrew and MacPorts. Use that guide for current commands and release-specific requirements.
- Enable USB debugging on Android. First enable Developer options, then turn on USB debugging. The menu names and locations vary by manufacturer and Android version.
- Connect the phone to the Mac. Use a USB cable that fits both devices and supports data transfer; a cable that only charges the phone will not work for this setup.
- Start scrcpy and authorize the connection. Launch scrcpy on the Mac and approve the USB debugging prompt on the phone if it appears. Follow the project’s current instructions if the phone is not detected.
If the phone charges but does not appear
- Try a data-capable cable and confirm that it matches the phone and Mac ports.
- Check that USB debugging is enabled and approve the computer’s authorization prompt on the phone.
- Consult scrcpy’s official documentation for current device-detection troubleshooting.
Choose USB first; wireless is also possible
Scrcpy supports a TCP/IP connection as well as USB. Wireless mirroring requires network or pairing setup, so it is not automatically simpler than connecting a cable. Use the project’s current instructions for the wireless procedure rather than relying on outdated commands.
Consider AirDroid Cast if you want a casting client
AirDroid Cast’s guide describes connecting an Android phone to a Mac using its desktop client and pairing with a QR code or cast code. It describes both wireless and USB casting, and says its desktop client can be used when phone control is needed. These are vendor-described features; the cited guide does not establish current pricing, which features are free, or account requirements. Check those terms before choosing it.

Do not assume Samsung DeX works with a MacBook
DeX is a desktop-style Samsung experience, not a universal Android screen-mirroring method for Mac. Samsung’s DeX compatibility FAQ gives model- and software-specific guidance, says Linux and Chrome OS are unsupported, and notes that DeX on PC is not supported for certain newer Galaxy devices or devices updated to Android 15 with One UI 7 or later. Its information about cable or HDMI support does not establish MacBook compatibility. Check Samsung’s current guidance for your exact device before relying on DeX.

Pick the method that fits your setup
- Choose scrcpy over USB for a direct Mac connection with keyboard and mouse control; it requires USB debugging.
- Choose scrcpy over TCP/IP if you specifically want a wireless connection and are comfortable following its network or pairing setup.
- Consider AirDroid Cast if you prefer a desktop casting client and QR-code or cast-code pairing; confirm current account and pricing terms with the provider.
- Check your Android version if audio matters: scrcpy’s stated audio-forwarding support requires Android 11 or later.
