To mirror your entire Samsung Galaxy phone screen, open the phone’s Quick Panel, tap Smart View, choose your TV, then approve the connection on the phone and TV if prompted. The steps below cover whole-screen mirroring; casting a video from a supported app is a different process.
Before you connect
Turn on the TV and connect the phone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network. The TV must support a compatible wireless mirroring method, and mirroring may need to be enabled or approved in its settings. Samsung’s UK support guidance, updated 12 September 2026, says a TV needs to support an internet connection for wireless screen mirroring.
Support depends on the exact phone and TV models and their software. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance describes Smart View compatibility for Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 4.3 or later when the receiving device supports Miracast, but also states that Smart View is not available on every device. Samsung India likewise cautions that support varies by model. Treat those details as general guidance, not a guarantee for every Galaxy or television.
Mirror your Galaxy phone with Smart View
- Open Quick Panel. Swipe down from the top of the phone screen. Depending on your software version, you may need to swipe down again to show the full panel.
- Tap Smart View. If you do not see it, check the available Quick Panel controls; the precise route can vary by software version. If Smart View is absent, check support for your exact phone model rather than assuming the feature is available.
- Select your TV. Choose the television from the list of available devices.
- Approve the connection. Tap Start now or approve the phone’s prompt, then allow the connection on the TV if it asks. Enter a PIN if one is shown.
- Disconnect when finished. Open Smart View and disconnect, or use the TV remote to exit mirroring.
Once connected, the TV shows the phone’s display, so phone activity may be visible on the larger screen. Keep that in mind before opening notifications or other private content.

Choose mirroring or app casting
Use Smart View when you want the TV to show the phone’s screen as a whole. If you only want to play a video, music, or other supported content, the app may offer its own cast control. Samsung’s UK guidance describes casting from a cast-enabled app as a separate workflow from using Smart View to mirror the phone display.
- Whole phone screen: Open Smart View on the Galaxy phone and select the TV.
- One app’s content: Open the content in a supported app and use its cast icon, if available. The exact controls depend on the app and devices.
Samsung also describes SmartThings as a way to detect and connect to most Samsung TVs manufactured from 2016 onward, as well as a route for app-casting workflows. “Most” is not all: availability can vary by model and market, so check the support information for your television if it is not detected.

If your TV does not appear or the connection fails
- TV missing from the list: Confirm that it is on and that both devices use the same Wi-Fi network, then refresh the device list. Check that the TV supports wireless mirroring and that the feature is available or enabled.
- TV asks you to allow the connection: Accept the request on the TV and phone. If the TV has connected-device permissions, review them. Samsung notes that a rejected request can indicate that mirroring is not possible for that device combination.
- Connection still fails: Restart the phone and TV, then try again.
- Smart View is missing: Check the support documentation for your exact phone model and software. Samsung does not say that Smart View is available on every Galaxy device.
- The screen mirrors but one video does not: The content may be protected. Samsung US says DRM-protected content cannot be mirrored, so a black or unavailable video can be a content restriction rather than a failed connection.
Options for a TV without a compatible wireless route
Samsung UK lists a Chromecast device or an HDMI adaptor as possible alternatives for a non-smart TV. Compatibility is not universal: check that the streaming device works with the TV, or that the phone supports video output through its port and the adaptor you intend to use. The Samsung guidance does not identify a specific current streaming-device generation or establish that every Galaxy phone can send video over HDMI.
