If Mint Mobile data is slow, first check how much high-speed data remains in your plan and whether the problem follows you to different places. A used-up allowance, local congestion, weak signal, and phone settings can all cause slow service; bars alone do not identify the cause. Work through the checks below in order, leaving network reset for last.
First, narrow down what is slow
Before changing settings, note whether cellular data is slow in every app or only one, whether it happens everywhere or in one building or neighborhood, and whether it began after reaching your data allowance, changing phones or SIMs, or traveling. If you can, compare at another location or time. These clues help separate an account or device issue from a local signal or capacity problem, but do not prove a specific cause.
- Check remaining data and the plan cycle in your Mint account. You can also review your phone’s usage display, but the account and plan terms determine your Mint allowance.
- Try more than one app or website. If only one is slow, the issue may be limited to that service rather than all cellular data.
- Compare cellular service in another nearby location, and indoors versus outdoors where practical.
Mint lists plan allotment, location, signal, congestion, and device capability among factors that affect service. Its Network Management Policy says actual availability, speed, and coverage may vary.
Check whether your data allowance has been used
For non-Unlimited plans, Mint says that once the plan’s high-speed allowance is reached, data may be reduced to 2G speeds—generally 128 Kbps for most plans—or access may be suspended for the rest of the applicable month, depending on the plan terms. Check your account and current plan terms before buying an add-on or changing plans. Mint describes add-ons and plan upgrades in its FAQ.

Unlimited does not mean every connection always receives the same priority. Mint says use above 50 GB in a monthly cycle may be prioritized below other users during times and places with competing demand for the remainder of that cycle; the status resets at the next cycle. That is conditional, not a guaranteed slowdown for every customer. Mint also says T-Mobile may reduce speeds during congestion for users on any plan.
Understand what speeds and coverage figures mean
Mint’s policy lists these typical on-device speed ranges for qualifying devices and SIMs in appropriate coverage on T-Mobile’s network. They are not promised results for a particular address, phone, indoor setting, time, or speed test.

Mint says actual performance can vary with prioritization, apps running, cell-site distance and capacity, weather, terrain, buildings, moving vehicles, radio interference, user load, plan allowance, and tethering. Mint’s network update states that 99% of Americans have 4G LTE coverage; that is a population-coverage claim, not a guarantee of usable service at a specific location. Deep inside buildings, underground, or in some rural areas, signal may be reduced or unavailable.

Try reversible connection checks first
Compare signal and location
Check Mint’s coverage map and compare service outdoors or at another nearby location. If data improves elsewhere, that points toward a local coverage or capacity difference rather than proving a phone setting is wrong. Bars indicate a signal reading, not guaranteed data speed; congestion and the cell site’s capacity can still matter.

Refresh the cellular connection
- Turn Airplane Mode on, wait briefly, then turn it off. Alternatively, switch cellular data off and back on.
- Restart the phone and test data again.
Mint’s service troubleshooting guide also describes a soft reset or force restart; it does not erase user data.
Confirm the Mint line and SIM
Make sure cellular data is enabled for the Mint line, particularly if the phone has dual SIMs. If you use a physical SIM, power down the phone and reseat it if needed. If you use an eSIM, toggle the Mint line off and on; do not delete the eSIM as a routine troubleshooting step.

Review network selection and Wi-Fi Calling
Mint recommends checking connection settings; changing network mode or selection and allowing automatic selection to reconnect may help. If Wi-Fi Calling is on and the Wi-Fi connection is weak, temporarily turn Wi-Fi Calling off and test cellular data. Restore the prior setting if the test does not help.
Check APN settings only when relevant
An APN is a carrier-specific setting that helps a phone connect to mobile data. Mint says some bring-your-own Android phones may not detect all settings automatically and provides an Android APN setup guide. Mint also says customers can text SETUP to 6700 after activating and installing the SIM or eSIM.

Do not copy APN values from an unrelated device or carrier. Apple notes that APN editing may not be available on some iPhones and that incorrect values can disrupt mobile data; follow Mint’s current device-specific instructions or contact Mint if you are unsure. See Apple’s APN support page.
Reset network settings only as a last self-help step
If the earlier checks do not help, a network-settings reset may be an option, but it removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords and other network information. You will need to reconnect to saved Wi-Fi networks afterward. Because the exact menu path differs by phone, use your device’s settings search for “Reset network settings” and read the confirmation screen before proceeding. Mint identifies this as the final step in its self-troubleshooting process.
Contact Mint if the problem persists
If data remains slow across locations or after these checks, contact Mint Care at 800-683-7392 or use Mint chat. Ask support to check account provisioning and whether there is a local network issue. Without current, location-specific information, slow service alone is not evidence that there is an outage.

Mint says T-Mobile retired an older network security standard on April 1, 2026, and Mint transitioned too. Mint says most newer phones are unaffected; some devices introduced in 2017 or earlier may have limited functionality. The notice describes managing certain call settings and, on Android, possible difficulty sending large multimedia messages. It does not identify this change as a cause of slow mobile data.
