First identify which Minesweeper you’re using: a game running on a website or an installed Microsoft Store app. A blank, frozen, or endlessly loading browser game needs browser and connection checks; an installed app stuck on its loading screen needs app-level checks. The available information does not establish one universal cause or confirm a current outage.
Start with the symptom and version
“Minesweeper” can mean a browser game, Microsoft Minesweeper for Windows, or another app. Note which one you opened and what happens: the page is blank, the game freezes, loading never finishes, or the app stops responding. If known, record your browser or Windows version too; this helps distinguish a page problem from an app problem.
If Minesweeper in a browser is blank, frozen, or won’t load
Microsoft’s general guidance for Microsoft Edge recommends checking the browser, its resource use, cached files, and the network. These steps apply to Edge and general page-loading problems; they are not a Minesweeper-specific fix. See Microsoft’s Edge troubleshooting guidance.

1. Reload, then reduce browser load
- Reload the Minesweeper page.
- Close tabs you are not using, active downloads, and unnecessary apps. Microsoft notes that high memory use can prevent a page from loading.
- If you use Edge, check for an update and temporarily disable extensions you do not need, then try the page again.
2. Clear cached files in Edge
If the page still displays incorrectly, clear cached images and files before clearing broader browsing data. In Edge, open Settings and more > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data. Select All time, choose Cached images and files, and select Clear now. Clearing other categories of browsing data can have wider effects, so start with the cache option.

3. Try another browser to isolate the problem
Open the same game in another browser. If it works there, the issue is more likely tied to the original browser or its settings. If it also fails, Microsoft’s guidance points to the network or the website as possible causes: restart your modem or router, and contact the website owner if the problem persists. A failure in another browser does not by itself prove the site is down.
If the installed Microsoft Minesweeper app is stuck loading
A Microsoft Q&A thread describes a loading-animation problem reported on January 1–2, 2024. An Independent Advisor suggested restarting the PC and game, checking Microsoft Store for an app update, and trying the app’s Repair option. This is dated community advice, not current official Minesweeper documentation; it does not establish whether the same problem or fix applies to your installation. See the Microsoft Q&A thread.

Try the lower-impact steps first
- Close the game and restart your PC, then open the app again.
- Open Microsoft Store and check whether an update for Microsoft Minesweeper is available.
- If it still hangs, try Repair in the app’s Windows settings. The precise settings labels can differ by Windows version.
Use Reset or reinstall cautiously
The Q&A response suggests Reset after Repair, but the available sources do not establish what Reset preserves or whether game progress is synchronized. Before using Reset or reinstalling, check whether your progress is backed up or synchronized and whether you can restore it. These are more disruptive steps than restarting or checking for an update.
How to tell whether it is an outage
A report from January 2024 cannot establish that Minesweeper is down now. The available sources do not verify live outage status, the current Microsoft Minesweeper app version, browser requirements for a particular game website, or the save behavior of the app. If you see search phrases such as “Minesweeper wont load” or “Minesweeper is down,” treat them as descriptions of individual problems, not proof of a widespread failure.
