There is no single, verified command list that works unchanged across Java and Bedrock. The commands and their syntax vary by edition and game release, and the available official references provide a current Bedrock inventory but not a complete current Java inventory. For commands available in your world or server, use /help in game and check the reference for your exact edition and release.
Why a single Java and Bedrock list can mislead
A command name may be shared between editions while its arguments, availability, or behavior differ. The Minecraft Wiki’s command category distinguishes edition-specific commands, while Microsoft’s Bedrock stable command reference documents Bedrock commands, permissions, and cheat requirements. Neither source makes one blended list a guarantee for every Java and Bedrock release.
The official Minecraft guide, How to Use Commands in Minecraft, is a practical introduction rather than an exhaustive edition-by-edition inventory. It was published on September 22, 2023, and its examples should not be mistaken for a complete list of current commands.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck whether a command works in your game
- Identify the edition and release. Confirm whether you are playing Java or Bedrock and the game version used by the world or server. Do not copy syntax across editions without checking it.
- Ask the game for help. In Bedrock, enter
/helpto see available commands, or/help <command>for a command’s syntax. Microsoft also documents paginated help as/help <page>. The Bedrock help command is available at any permission level without cheats, according to the official help reference. A bare help result may be paginated; the popular commands guide explains how to request help for a named command. - Check the required access. In Bedrock, the command reference lists permission level and whether cheats are required for each command. In multiplayer, you need adequate permissions; the official Minecraft guide notes that server or Realm owners have permissions by default. Check the world or server settings as well as the command’s own requirements.
- Use the syntax suggestions. Commands entered in chat start with a slash, and arguments after the command name affect what it does. The official guide describes chat suggestions and tab completion while typing, and says the up arrow recalls earlier commands. For example,
/difficulty easysets the difficulty to easy where the command is available and you have access.
Bedrock command inventory and common examples
Microsoft’s Bedrock stable command overview is the most direct source for the full Bedrock inventory in that documentation view. It groups commands with descriptions, permission levels, and cheat requirements. Its command list documentation provides an additional reference. Consult those pages for exact syntax and access details rather than relying on a short set of examples.

World and player operations
Examples listed in the Bedrock overview include /clear, /clone, /difficulty, /effect, /enchant, /execute, /fill, /gamemode, /gamerule, /give, /kill, /locate, /spawnpoint, /summon, /teleport, /time, /weather, and /xp. The names indicate broad uses, but the exact options and requirements should be checked against the Bedrock reference and in-game help.
Server access and moderation
Bedrock’s overview also lists /allowlist, /deop, /kick, /list, /op, /permission, /stop, and /transfer. Availability and permission requirements depend on the command and server context; use the official table rather than assuming every player can run them.

Creator and specialized commands
Commands such as /camera, /camerashake, /gametest, /project, /script, and /scriptevent are also listed in the Bedrock reference. These are creator-oriented or specialized tools, not ordinary player or server-moderation commands; check their documented conditions before using them.
Official guide examples
The Minecraft guide demonstrates /teleport, /give, /weather, /time, /summon, /kill, /setworldspawn, /locate, /op, and /kick. They illustrate movement, items, environment, entities, spawn, discovery, and administration, but the guide does not give full syntax for every command or claim the examples are exhaustive.

Where server commands can run
Depending on the platform and setup, commands can be entered in chat, run from command blocks, used in data packs or behavior packs, or entered in a server console. The official Minecraft guide covers these contexts in its command overview. Syntax, permissions, and available features can depend on where the command is run, so check the documentation for that context as well as for the edition and release.

The references available here do not establish a complete current Java Edition command inventory with full syntax. That means a purportedly complete Java-and-Bedrock list cannot be verified from these sources alone. For Java, check the in-game help and a reference tied to the precise game and server version; do not treat the Bedrock list or the official guide’s examples as a Java command specification.
