No—not in the usual sense of an unrestricted open world. Minecraft Dungeons II has a fixed, interconnected world that links locations and dungeons, but its developers describe it as a curated experience rather than calling it open world.
What kind of world does Minecraft Dungeons II have?
The most accurate description is an interconnected, curated world. Xbox Wire describes the setting as contiguous, fixed, and interconnected, with dungeons. That means locations connect and exploration is encouraged, but the world is designed rather than an unrestricted sandbox. Xbox Wire’s June 10, 2026 overview explains the change in structure.

How is it different from the first Minecraft Dungeons?
The sequel changes how its locations fit together. The original Minecraft Dungeons used discrete missions; Minecraft Dungeons II puts its action in a contiguous, interconnected world dotted with dungeons. This is a shift from separate mission areas to connected locations, not evidence that the sequel removes all boundaries or becomes a freeform world.

Can you freely explore and build like in Minecraft?
Do not expect the main Minecraft game’s unrestricted building and resource-gathering loop. Minecraft describes Dungeons II as an action-RPG adventure, while the world descriptions characterize it as fixed and curated. Its connected layout supports exploration within a designed adventure; it does not establish that players can reshape the world or roam without limits. What platforms and editions are listed?
Minecraft’s official game page lists Windows, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Check the current listing for your region and platform before buying, since availability can vary.
