Cherry Grove is a small Overworld biome known for pink-leaved cherry trees, falling petals, flowers and bees. It commonly appears along mountainous foothills, so search the edges where high terrain meets lower land rather than scanning only flat plains. Once you find one, collect several saplings, harvest logs and move production to a farm near your base. Cherry planks, logs, slabs, stairs, fences, doors, trapdoors and signs create a complete building palette that works especially well with dark stone, spruce, oak and other neutral materials.
Minecraft cherry blossom biome: what you will find
Cherry Grove is a relatively small Overworld biome added with the cherry tree features in Java Edition 1.20. Bedrock players can also encounter cherry trees in versions that include the same cherry biome content. The landscape is easy to recognize once you reach it: grassy ground is dotted with pink flowers, cherry canopies fill the skyline, and petal particles drift down through the trees.

Bees fly among the blossoms, giving the biome an active, gentle atmosphere and a practical source of pollination if you bring or breed bees near your base. Sheep, pigs and rabbits may also appear. These passive animals make a newly discovered grove useful for early food and wool, but they are not a guarantee in every generated patch.
The beauty does not make the area safe after dark. Normal hostile mobs can still spawn, including creepers, zombies, skeletons, spiders and Endermen. A grove that looks peaceful during the day can therefore become dangerous at night, especially under dense leaves where shadows remain.

how to find cherry grove
Mojang describes Cherry Grove as “small and often generates in the foothills of mountainous areas.” That generation pattern is the most useful search clue: travel along mountain bases, highland transitions and the slopes above ordinary plains or forests. Do not limit your search to broad, flat terrain. A grove can be tucked into a shelf or valley and be difficult to spot from ground level.
Read the terrain before you search
- Follow mountain edges: Circle the lower slopes of tall hills and mountain ranges instead of climbing every peak.
- Check transition zones: Look where grassy lowlands, forests or plains rise toward stony or snowy high ground.
- Use the canopy as a landmark: Pink leaves are visible from a distance, particularly against green forests or gray stone.
- Search both sides of a range: A grove may be on the far side of a ridge and invisible from your original approach.
Bring navigation and survival supplies
A compass or a written set of coordinates helps you return to the biome. Carry food, a bed, a shield, a pickaxe, an axe, torches and spare building blocks. A boat is useful if rivers or coastlines connect the mountain regions you are exploring. If you find the grove late in the day, mark a temporary shelter and light the route rather than attempting a long return through unlit terrain.
Recognize a genuine Cherry Grove
Pink petals and cherry trees are the defining signs. The floor remains grassy, with pink flowers spread through the area. Bees may be present around the trees, but their absence does not rule out the biome. Likewise, passive animals vary by generation. Once you see the characteristic pink canopy and petal-covered ground together, record the coordinates before harvesting.
What to do on your first visit
- Secure the area: Place torches along a small perimeter and make a bed or shelter before nightfall.
- Mark the coordinates: Write down the grove’s X, Y and Z position or use a visible trail of blocks.
- Harvest several trunks: Cut enough cherry logs for tools, a chest, a crafting table and your first build, but leave part of the grove intact as a visual landmark.
- Collect saplings: Break leaf blocks or wait for drops until you have multiple saplings. Extra saplings are insurance against a long return trip.
- Gather flowers and petals: Take a modest amount for decoration while preserving the natural look of the grove.
- Choose a base location: A nearby plain, riverbank or mountain shelf gives you room to farm and build without flattening the entire biome.
Moving saplings to your base is usually more convenient than making repeated trips to a small, distant biome. Keep the original grove available for inspiration and future gathering, but establish renewable production where your storage and construction areas already are.
how to get Minecraft cherry wood
Cherry wood entered the game with Java Edition 1.20. A cherry tree grows from a cherry sapling, and its logs craft into cherry planks. The same family includes the associated stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors and signs, allowing you to build an entire structure without switching to an unrelated wood color for every detail.
Harvest the first supply
- Use an axe to cut the cherry tree trunk and collect the dropped logs.
- Break or wait for the leaves to disappear so saplings can drop.
- Craft logs into cherry planks at your crafting table.
- Turn planks into the shaped blocks you need, such as stairs, slabs, fences, gates, doors, trapdoors and signs.
- Replant saplings near your base before using all of them for construction.
The first harvest should prioritize saplings and a sustainable supply over decorative stripping. A small number of trees can provide enough material for a starter project, but a larger house, bridge or village will consume logs quickly.
how to farm cherry trees
Cherry wood is renewable: harvest logs, collect saplings and plant those saplings again. Because finding a Cherry Grove can be tedious, the practical approach is to collect enough saplings during the first expedition and then move production to a compact farm beside your base.

Plan a compact farm
- Leave working space: Give each sapling room for its tree canopy and trunk so neighboring trees do not make harvesting awkward.
- Keep rows walkable: A path between planting rows lets you reach trunks and collect drops without trampling decorative areas.
- Use a dedicated storage point: Put chests near the farm for logs, saplings, leaves and petals.
- Separate production from display trees: Keep ornamental trees untouched in your garden and harvest from a utility grove.
- Replant immediately: Replace every harvested tree before beginning a large build so your supply does not quietly shrink.
You do not need to destroy the original biome to establish a farm. A handful of saplings transported to a lit, organized plot can supply repeated building projects while the natural grove remains a scenic location.
Manage a larger wood operation
For a town or a long bridge, create separate areas for growing, cutting and storing. A straight access path makes repeated harvests faster, while a dark-stone or neutral-wood border keeps the production plot visually distinct from a pink garden. Keep spare saplings in your main storage and in an emergency chest at the farm so a mistake or accidental fire does not end the operation.
Cherry wood palette and contrast
Cherry blocks are strongly pink, so a successful design depends on more than placing every available cherry variant together. Judge a palette on three axes: contrast, silhouette and maintenance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Design axis | What to decide | Practical treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Contrast | Can the pink walls and leaves be distinguished from the surroundings? | Pair cherry with dark stone, deepslate, spruce or another muted material; pale blocks can work when the background is dark. |
| Silhouette | Is the building recognizable from a distance? | Use a clear roof shape, visible vertical log corners and a foundation that separates the structure from grass. |
| Maintenance | How much cherry wood and lighting will the design require? | Reserve cherry for focal walls, trim and paths when supply is limited; use neutral materials for large foundations and roofs. |
A darker foundation and roof are especially helpful when the build must remain legible from far away. If every surface is pink, walls, rooflines and doors can visually merge with the leaves. Stripped cherry logs provide a cleaner corner treatment, while regular logs can emphasize the structure of a large tree or gate.
Minecraft cherry blossom house: a practical starter cottage
A starter cottage is the quickest way to turn a first harvest into a useful home. Build a compact rectangular footprint, use cherry planks for the walls and place stripped cherry logs at the corners. A darker stone foundation protects the pink walls from blending into the grass and gives the house a grounded appearance.
Build sequence
- Set the foundation: Lay a low rectangle of dark stone or another contrasting block.
- Frame the corners: Raise stripped cherry logs at each corner to establish the height.
- Fill the walls: Use cherry planks, leaving openings for windows and a door.
- Shape the roof: Choose a steep roof so the silhouette reads clearly and rain-like slopes do not create a flat pink box.
- Add the entrance: Use a cherry door, a small porch and lanterns to make the front easy to find at night.
- Finish the surroundings: Plant a few cherry trees, add a path and reserve open space for a farm or animal pen.
Keep the first cottage deliberately small. The goal is a safe storage and sleeping space that demonstrates the palette, not a full estate that consumes every log before your farm is established.
Mountain shrine
A mountain shrine uses the terrain that makes Cherry Grove hard to find. Place the entrance on a slope rather than leveling a large platform. Frame the doorway with cherry logs, add lanterns and build a stair approach that follows the mountain’s natural rise. Pink petals can mark the route from the lower trail to the entrance.

Use stone or deepslate for retaining walls and steps so the shrine remains visible against the hillside. A small landing at the top gives visitors a view over the grove without requiring a massive structure. Lighting along the stairway is both decorative and essential for preventing hostile-mob spawns after sunset.
Riverside tea house
A riverside tea house benefits from an open front facing the water. Use cherry slabs and trapdoors to create a low, layered roof that feels lighter than the steep roof of a cottage. Add a small dock, a few seating blocks and a path connecting the entrance to the riverbank.
Keep the water-facing side open with fences or posts rather than a solid wall. A dark foundation at the shoreline protects the building’s outline, while cherry signs and trapdoors supply detail without requiring a second bright wood color.
Cherry-lined village
For a larger settlement, use cherry wood as the town’s identity rather than making every house entirely pink. Replace ordinary village paths with cherry fences, signs and lamp posts. Vary individual houses with spruce, oak or deepslate so the settlement has visual hierarchy and every structure does not become the same shade.
- Use cherry fences to define gardens, wells and small courtyards.
- Place signs at intersections so the village remains navigable as it grows.
- Repeat a few cherry lamp-post designs to create a consistent public-space style.
- Reserve full cherry walls for important buildings such as a meeting hall, shrine or market stall.
This approach stretches a limited wood supply and makes the pink blocks more noticeable because they function as accents against varied houses.
Giant treehouse
A giant treehouse can be built around a living cherry tree or around a custom trunk made from cherry logs. Build a hollow trunk large enough for a ladder or staircase, then add platforms at different heights. Connect nearby platforms with bridges so the structure feels like a canopy settlement rather than a single box.
Leave openings between platforms for views of falling petals and the surrounding mountains. Use fences and trapdoors as railings, and keep lanterns at every landing. A dark wood or stone foundation at ground level helps the trunk read as a deliberate architectural element instead of an oversized pile of planks.

Petal garden
A petal garden turns the biome’s ground cover into a designed space. Lay pink petals around benches, ponds, lanterns and a central fountain. Keep a few irregular patches rather than covering every square block; the contrast between natural grass and intentional paths makes the garden look less uniform.
Use stone edging around the pond and fountain, then repeat the same edging along paths. Cherry fences can separate the garden from a working farm, while lanterns provide safe evening lighting without competing with the pink palette.
Cherry-lined paths and outdoor details
Paths are an inexpensive way to connect a base, farm and grove. Use a darker block for the walking surface and cherry fences or stripped logs as occasional borders. Signs can identify the original biome, the sapling farm and nearby buildings. Avoid placing continuous tall walls beside every path; gaps create sightlines to the trees and prevent the route from feeling like a corridor.
Small details that suit the palette include lantern posts, benches beside ponds, covered gates, flower plots and short bridges over streams. Repeat materials at intervals so the settlement feels planned, but vary the spacing and height to avoid a mechanical pattern.

Hostile mobs remain a risk in Cherry Grove despite its peaceful appearance. Light the route between your shelter and the farm, the ground around each building and any stair approach into the mountains. Lanterns mounted on cherry fences fit the theme, while hidden light sources beneath paths can preserve a clean daytime look.
- Place lighting where leaves and terrain create deep shadows.
- Check the underside of tree canopies, not just open grass.
- Keep entrances, storage chests and bridges illuminated.
- Sleep or return to shelter when a new grove is discovered late in the day.
Lighting is part of the build plan, not an afterthought. A beautiful pink path that is dark at night becomes a hostile-mob route and a threat to villagers, animals and unfinished structures.
Java and Bedrock considerations
The cherry tree and sapling were documented with Java Edition 1.20, while the guide’s practical advice applies to Bedrock worlds that include the same cherry biome and wood set. Names and visual behavior can vary slightly between editions or later updates, so check the recipe book in your edition if a block does not appear where expected.

Troubleshooting common problems
“I have searched plains for a long time and found nothing.”
Change the route. Cherry Grove commonly appears in mountainous foothills, so follow the base of mountain ranges and inspect highland transitions. Look around both sides of a range and scan elevated shelves where the pink canopy may be hidden from the valley.
“I found the grove but lost it.”
Use a compass or coordinates before harvesting, then mark the approach with a visible trail. A small outpost with a bed and chest can serve as a permanent waypoint if the biome is far from your main base.
“My cherry house looks like a pink box.”
Improve the silhouette before adding more decoration. Introduce a darker foundation, give the roof a steeper shape, expose vertical log corners and vary the wall depth around windows and the entrance. Save pink petals and lanterns for the approach and garden so the structure itself remains readable.
“I keep running out of cherry logs.”
Stop harvesting from the display grove and establish a utility farm near your base. Collect more saplings on the next visit, replant after every harvest and reserve cherry blocks for focal areas while using stone or neutral woods for large structural sections.
“The grove is safe in daylight but dangerous at night.”
That is expected: creepers, zombies, skeletons, spiders and Endermen can still spawn. Light under the canopy and along paths, place a temporary shelter before sunset and avoid extending unlit paths while building.
A practical project order
- Locate and mark: Find the foothill grove and save its coordinates.
- Secure and gather: Light a safe area, harvest logs and collect multiple saplings.
- Relocate production: Plant a compact farm near your base and store reserve saplings.
- Build a small home: Test cherry planks, stripped logs and a dark foundation in a starter cottage.
- Connect the area: Add lit paths, signs and fences between the house, farm and grove.
- Expand with a theme: Choose a shrine, tea house, treehouse, village or petal garden based on the terrain.
- Refine the palette: Check contrast, silhouette and material consumption from a distance before duplicating the design.
This order keeps exploration, renewable materials, safety and decoration aligned. You get a dependable cherry supply before committing to a large pink build, while the original biome remains available as a natural centerpiece.
