The Miele DAD 4941 Black Levantar is a 936 mm-wide motorized downdraft extractor that rises from the worktop rather than hanging above the cooktop. Miele’s published specifications list airflow up to 640 m³/h, two booster settings, and exhaust or recirculation configurations. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s ratings, not independent kitchen testing; the available sources do not establish hands-on performance for this exact model. Whether it suits your kitchen depends heavily on the cutout, cabinet space, duct route, and compatible conversion parts.
Miele DAD 4941 Black Levantar review: what it is
This is a retractable downdraft extractor, not an overhead canopy. Miele lists the canopy dimensions as 936 × 638 × 170 mm and net weight as 34 kg. Its motorized deflector is described as “Hood in Motion,” with SmartControl controls and Con@ctivity integration for compatible hobs. These are manufacturer-described features; compatibility and availability can vary by country and hob model.
Model identity is regional. Miele Germany identifies the obsidian-black model as material number 12428820, EAN 4002516761662. Miele Australia lists material number 12440730. The shorthand “DAD4941M” is not verified as a universal Miele identifier, so match the appliance and accessories to the material number on the local product listing and installation documents. The documented combination guidance names Miele KM 7594 FL and KM 7697 FL induction hobs as possible pairings, subject to local availability. The cited German specification says combination with a gas hob is not possible. Check the exact local hob and hood documentation before purchase rather than assuming that another cooktop will work with the controls.

How loud is the Miele DAD 4941?
Miele’s 2025 specification sheet gives sound-pressure ratings under EN 60704-2-13 and sound power under EN 60704-3. Sound pressure rises from 37 dB(A) at level 1 to 62 dB(A) at booster 2. Sound power is listed as 76 dB(A) at booster 2. These are separate measures and should not be treated as interchangeable or as a guarantee of the noise you will hear in your room.

What size cutout does the Miele DAD 4941 need?
There is no single cutout dimension that can safely be inferred from the overall appliance size. Miele provides distinct drawings for surface-mounted and flush installations and several arrangements for the cooktop and extractor. Use the current installation drawing and manual for your regional material number to confirm cutout geometry, whether the units share a cutout, cabinet clearance, and the route available below the worktop. The overall canopy measurement of 936 × 638 × 170 mm is not a substitute for those dimensions.

Before ordering, have the installer check:
- Whether your chosen layout uses a shared or separate cooktop and hood cutout.
- Worktop thickness, stability, and suitability for a 34 kg appliance.
- Cabinet and base clearance, including the extractor’s bottom air route.
- Electrical supply and local installation requirements.
- The exact regional installation drawing and any restrictions imposed by the selected cooktop.
Miele advises adequate worktop stability. Its India product information says installation and maintenance should be performed by authorized experts. The local manual and installer should determine the final fit; do not cut a worktop from a marketing summary. Miele India product details.

Can the Miele DAD 4941 recirculate?
Yes. Miele’s cited product information supports both exhaust and recirculation configurations. For exhaust, the listed connection is 150 mm, so the route and ducting need to be planned before the cabinetry is finalized. For recirculation, the sources list conversion options DUP 150 and DUU 600 and charcoal-filter variants DKF 30-P or DKF 30-R. Which combination is correct depends on the regional model and chosen air path; verify the precise kit and filter in the local parts list rather than ordering by family name alone.
Recirculation avoids routing extracted air outdoors, but it requires the correct conversion arrangement and charcoal filtration. Filter availability, replacement requirements, and costs should be confirmed with the local retailer or installer. The cited sources do not establish odor-removal performance over time for this model.

Filters, lighting and energy ratings
Miele lists two 10-layer stainless-steel grease filters that are dishwasher-safe. The product listing also specifies one 11.2 W LED, 400 lx illumination, and a color temperature of 3500 K. These are useful selection details, but they do not by themselves establish how evenly the light covers a particular hob or how easy the appliance is to clean in practice.

Is the Miele DAD 4941 worth it?
It may make sense if you want a retractable extractor instead of an overhead hood, have a worktop and cabinet layout that can accommodate it, and can plan either the 150 mm exhaust route or the required recirculation parts. Its published ratings provide five airflow settings, including two boosters, and the product documentation lists dishwasher-safe metal grease filters and possible integration with certain Miele induction hobs.
The practical trade-offs are installation complexity and space planning: this is a wide, 34 kg appliance whose fit depends on the exact worktop, cabinetry, and air path. Recirculation conversion parts and charcoal filters may be additional purchases. The published booster ratings reach 62 dB(A) sound pressure and 76 dB(A) sound power, so consider which setting you expect to use rather than judging solely by the maximum airflow figure. None of these specifications proves capture performance in a particular kitchen.
Price is also local and time-sensitive. When accessed, Miele Germany displayed €2,479 including VAT, while Miele Australia displayed A$5,999 for a different regional material number. These are separate storefront snapshots, not a universal or guaranteed current price; confirm the current local price, stock, installation, delivery, warranty, and accessory costs with Miele or an authorized retailer. What to verify before buying
- Confirm the exact model. Match the local material number on the product page to the manual, drawings, and accessory list.
- Get the installation drawing first. Have the installer check the cutout arrangement, flush or surface mounting, worktop stability, cabinet clearance, and electrical supply.
- Choose the air path. For outdoor exhaust, plan the 150 mm connection and duct route. For recirculation, confirm the required DUP 150 or DUU 600 configuration and DKF 30-P or DKF 30-R filter variant.
- Check the hob pairing. Confirm cooktop compatibility and which integration functions are available in your country; do not assume Con@ctivity works with every hob.
- Price the complete installation. Include any conversion kit, charcoal filters, ducting, delivery, labor, and local service or warranty conditions.
- Compare evidence on like terms. Compare published airflow and noise only when the standards and operating settings match. A manufacturer rating is not equivalent to independent capture testing in a kitchen.
