Metro Redux and Metro Exodus are not two editions of the same game. Metro Redux is a collection containing Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, while Metro Exodus is a separate, later entry in the series. Choose Redux if you want the two earlier stories together or want to begin the series with Metro 2033. Choose Exodus if you specifically want its story-driven standalone entry and its combination of combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. If you want everything, compare the Metro Saga Bundle with the games and expansions you already own before paying for duplicates.

What “Metro Redux” actually includes
Metro 2033 Redux
Metro 2033 Redux is the first of the two Redux games. It is the natural choice if you want to begin with the earliest story represented in this comparison. The publisher describes the Redux versions as definitive editions rebuilt in the 4A Engine.
Its documented modes give you a meaningful choice in how to approach the game. Survival emphasizes a harsher survival-horror style, while Spartan is designed around a more action-oriented approach. Ranger Mode removes the HUD and other interface assistance, increases combat danger and limits resources. Those descriptions come from the product information for Metro 2033 Redux; do not assume that every mode is available in exactly the same form in Last Light Redux.
#1 Best Overall
- Immerse yourself in the Moscow Metro - witness One of the most atmospheric worlds in gaming brought to life on Nintendo Switch
- Brave the horrors of the Russian Apocalypse - equip your gasmask and an arsenal of hand-made weaponry as you face the threat of deadly mutants, human foes, and the terrifying environment itself
- Two campaigns, and all DLC included - Metro Redux includes two complete campaigns that combine to create One epic solo adventure, plus a further 10 hours of bonus content
- Two unique play styles: 'spartan' And 'survival' - approach the campaign as a slow burn survival horror, or tackle it with the combat skills of a spartan ranger in these two unique modes
Metro: Last Light Redux
Metro: Last Light Redux is the second game in the collection. Buying Metro Redux therefore gives you two complete game experiences rather than one game with an extra campaign. The pair shares the series’ mixture of story, survival horror, exploration, tactical combat and stealth.
Why the collection matters to a first-time player
Redux is the straightforward purchase when your priority is continuity. You receive the two earlier games together and can play them in release-story order: Metro 2033 Redux followed by Metro: Last Light Redux. That sequence gives you the clearest introduction to the setting and characters before moving on to Exodus.
What Metro Exodus is
Metro Exodus is not the third title inside a package called Redux; it is a separate game. Deep Silver describes it as a story-driven first-person shooter that blends combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. That description makes it the better fit for someone who already knows they want Exodus’ particular campaign rather than the earlier pair.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Because Exodus is a separate entry, buying it alone does not give you Metro 2033 Redux or Last Light Redux. Conversely, owning Metro Redux does not automatically mean you own Exodus or its expansions unless your purchase was a bundle or an edition that explicitly includes them.
Story order and where to enter
The simplest narrative route is Metro 2033 Redux, then Metro: Last Light Redux, then Metro Exodus. That order follows the earlier pair into the later entry and avoids treating Exodus as a replacement for either Redux game. If you already know you want Exodus, you can buy it as the separate game shown on your platform store; just understand that the purchase does not include the preceding campaigns unless the listing says so.
For a new player deciding between one purchase today and a longer series commitment, the choice is really about how much story you want at once. Redux supplies two campaigns in one collection. Exodus supplies one later campaign, with its expansions handled as separate products or as part of a qualifying bundle. Neither label means “complete Metro series” by itself.
How the play styles differ
If you want explicit difficulty and resource choices
Metro 2033 Redux is the only game in the product information with the named Survival, Spartan and Ranger options. Ranger Mode is the most restrictive of the listed choices: the interface is reduced or removed, enemies are more dangerous and resources are limited. Pick it when you want information and supplies to be less readily available, not because the evidence establishes that it is universally the hardest Metro experience.

If you want a broad genre blend in one campaign
Exodus’ official description emphasizes the combination of combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. That makes it suitable for players who want to move between approaches instead of treating the game as only a shooter or only a horror title.
Do not turn genre descriptions into a universal difficulty ranking
Both choices contain overlapping ingredients. Deep Silver describes the Redux pair with story, survival horror, exploration, tactical combat and stealth, while Exodus is described with combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. The available evidence does not prove that one is always scarier, more difficult, more stealth-focused or more action-heavy. Your mode selection, platform settings and preferred approach will affect that experience.

Which game should you choose?
Choose Metro Redux when…
- You want the two earlier games together rather than one later entry.
- You are starting the series and prefer to begin with Metro 2033.
- You want the explicitly documented Survival, Spartan and Ranger options in Metro 2033 Redux.
- You want to finish the first two stories before deciding whether to continue to Exodus.
Choose Metro Exodus when…
- You specifically want the separate Exodus campaign.
- You are looking for the publisher’s story-driven first-person-shooter format combining combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror.
- You already own the earlier games or are comfortable entering the series with this later entry.
Choose a bundle when…
- You want all three games in one purchase.
- You also want the two Exodus expansions listed with the bundle.
- You have checked the live store page for your platform and region and removed any games or add-ons you already own from your value calculation.
This is a preference-based recommendation, not a quality ranking. The publisher descriptions do not establish that one purchase is objectively better for every player.
Metro Saga Bundle: check the contents before buying
The Xbox US Metro Saga Bundle listing includes Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, Metro Exodus and the two Exodus expansions. The listing also shows Enhanced Edition add-on entries. Treat that as the contents of that specific listing, not a guarantee that every platform, country or storefront uses identical packaging.
Prices are dynamic and were not established as a stable, universal figure. Before checkout, open the current listing for your platform and confirm:
- Which base games are included in the edition you are viewing.
- Whether both Exodus expansions are included or sold as separate add-ons.
- Whether an Enhanced Edition entry is an included entitlement, a downloadable add-on or a separate listing.
- Whether your platform and account region support the stated version.
- Whether you already own one or more included games, since a bundle can still contain duplicates.
If you own one Redux game but not the other, compare the bundle against the missing title and Exodus separately rather than assuming the bundle saves money. Likewise, an expansion you already purchased may make a complete bundle less attractive. Store discounts can change independently, so record the exact edition name and contents on the day you buy.
Platforms, editions and physical copies
Exodus platform destinations
Deep Silver’s official Exodus page links to PlayStation, Xbox, Epic, Steam and GOG destinations. Availability, edition names and upgrade rules can differ between those stores. Do not infer that a version shown on one platform is automatically available, identical or entitled to the same extras on another.
Nintendo Switch physical edition
A 2020 review of the Nintendo Switch release reported that the two remastered games could be purchased separately in digital form or together on a physical 16 GB card. That establishes a historical physical Switch edition, not current retailer stock, current pricing or present-day availability. Check the live Nintendo listing or retailer inventory if a cartridge is important to you.

Digital versus physical decision
Choose digital when immediate download and account-based access matter most. Choose physical only after confirming that the card or disc contains the content you expect and whether a download is required. For a collection, verify whether the physical package contains both games, rather than assuming a product labeled “Metro Redux” is a single title. Also check the seller’s region: a cartridge or disc can be genuine while still carrying different language, account or downloadable-content rules from your local storefront.
The announced 2026 Redux update
Deep Silver announced a free Redux update for existing owners on named PC and console platforms. The announcement schedules the PC release for October 22, 2026 and the console release for October 29, 2026. As of October 16, 2026, those dates are still forthcoming; check the official announcement and your platform store before relying on them.
The publisher says the update is not a full remaster or remake and that it preserves the original Redux experience and aesthetic while making improvements for newer PC and console hardware. In its words: “This is not a full remaster or remake – the original METRO Redux experience and aesthetic has been preserved – but we have made careful, meaningful improvements to take advantage of the latest PC and console hardware.”

- Trademark X-ray Kill cams, including melee and explosive takedowns
- Iconic Ww2 weaponry; Sniper rifles, pistols, smgs, traps, grenades and more
- Upgrade and customize your skills and weaponry as you progress
The announcement lists platform-specific improvements, so the feature set may not be identical everywhere. It also describes the update as free for existing owners on the named platforms. Confirm eligibility, installation behavior and the final launch status after the scheduled dates, especially if you own a regional, physical or older-store edition. A free update does not necessarily mean every edition receives the same download or that an expansion entitlement transfers automatically; read the platform notice attached to your copy.

- Identify your starting point. If you want the earliest story in this comparison, select Metro 2033 Redux within the Metro Redux collection. If you want Exodus itself, select Metro Exodus.
- List what you already own. Check your console library or PC store account for both Redux games, Exodus and each expansion. Do not rely on the product name alone.
- Match the edition to your platform. Compare the platform-specific store page, edition name and included add-ons. A general publisher page is not a substitute for the local listing.
- Decide whether expansions matter. If you want the Exodus expansions, compare their standalone listings with the bundle’s stated contents.
- Check format and storage. For physical purchases, verify the card or disc capacity and any required downloads. For digital purchases, confirm that your system and account region are supported.
- Recheck the Redux update status. If you are buying before October 22 on PC or October 29 on consoles, treat the update as announced rather than already available.
- Buy only after comparing duplicate content. A bundle can be convenient, but its value depends on the games and expansions you do not already own.
Books and the wider Metro universe
If the games leave you wanting more setting and lore, Deep Silver identifies Dmitry Glukhovsky as the author of the Metro novels and the creator of the expanded universe that includes the games. The novel trilogy is a separate reading experience, not a code or digital extra included with Metro Redux or Metro Exodus. Treat books as an optional companion purchase and verify the language, edition and retailer before ordering.
What the franchise milestone does—and does not—tell you
Deep Silver reported that Metro games have sold 50 million copies worldwide in 2026. That is a franchise-wide figure. It is not a sales total for Metro Redux, Metro 2033 Redux, Last Light Redux or Metro Exodus individually, and it does not establish which game is better for a particular player.
Common buying mistakes
Assuming Redux means “all Metro games”
Redux names the two remade earlier games. Exodus is separate unless the store page explicitly adds it.
Assuming a bundle is automatically cheaper
Bundle value depends on current pricing, region and duplicate ownership. The displayed Xbox US price is not a permanent price for every store.
Assuming modes are identical across both Redux games
The documented Survival, Spartan and Ranger descriptions apply to Metro 2033 Redux. Do not advertise them as a confirmed shared feature set for both titles.
Assuming a platform page guarantees every edition
PlayStation, Xbox, Epic, Steam, GOG and Nintendo Switch offerings can differ in format, add-ons and availability. Verify the exact local listing.
Calling the 2026 update a remake
Deep Silver explicitly says it is not a full remaster or remake. It is an announced free update intended to improve the existing Redux experience for newer hardware.
Buying a physical copy without checking its contents
A historic Switch package used a 16 GB card for the two Redux games, but current stock and download requirements can differ. Confirm the listing, region and required storage before opening the package.
