Yes—you can already play both Metro Redux games on current consoles through their listed PS4/Xbox One versions and backward compatibility. A free native-generation update is announced for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S on October 29, 2026 worldwide (November in Japan). The update promises 4K and high-frame-rate options, improved visuals, audio and controls, but those specifications remain publisher announcements until the patch launches.
What is changing on October 29, 2026?
Deep Silver and PLAION describe the release as a quality-of-life upgrade, not a remake, remaster or conversion to a newer version of the 4A Engine. The publisher has also said there is no ray-tracing support. The worldwide console date is October 29, 2026; Japan is scheduled for November, without a specific day announced.
Existing owners receive the update free, and a new purchase of either Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux automatically includes it, according to PLAION’s FAQ. The FAQ does not explain eligibility for every physical-disc SKU, so owners of PS4 or Xbox One discs should confirm the upgrade route with platform or publisher support.

Can I play Metro Redux on PS5 now?
Yes. The PlayStation Store lists the Metro Saga Bundle for PS4 and PS5 and says it is playable on PS5. The listing warns that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5. That is current backward-compatible availability; it is separate from the announced native update arriving in October.
The Saga Bundle’s contents and price depend on your local store and can change. The US listing identifies Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux and Metro Exodus Gold Edition, including its bonus downloadable content, plus The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story: PlayStation Store listing.

Is the Xbox Series X version 60 FPS?
The announced console modes target true 4K at 60 frames per second and upscaled 4K at 120 frames per second when paired with a suitable television or monitor. These are advertised modes, not independent performance results. The final output can depend on the display, selected mode and launch patch.

Neither platform should be called the winner before release testing establishes frame-rate consistency, image quality and mode-specific trade-offs.

What are the PS5 and Xbox-specific features?
PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro
The update is announced as native for both PS5 models. PS5 Pro is specifically named for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support. DualSense adaptive triggers are also listed, alongside higher-quality lighting, shadows and particle effects and a PlayStation Power Saver Mode.
Xbox Series X|S
Xbox Series consoles are promised native support, with TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing identified for Xbox Series X. Xbox Spatial Audio, Impulse Triggers and an Xbox Power Optimized Mode are included in the announced feature list. The announcement does not provide a separate performance table for Series X versus Series S, so do not assume identical resolution or frame-rate behavior.
Does Metro Redux have ray tracing?
No. PLAION’s FAQ explicitly says the update has no ray-tracing support. Its visual improvements instead concern textures, lighting, shadows, particles, tessellation, displacement and environmental detail.
Which bundle includes both Metro games?
Microsoft’s US store lists the Metro Redux Bundle as containing Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. It also lists a broader Metro Saga Bundle that adds Metro Exodus and its The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story expansions. On PlayStation, the Saga listing describes Metro Exodus Gold Edition with bonus DLC and supports PS4/PS5 play with the PS4-feature caveat.

The 2014 Redux release pairs Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. 4A Games said the gameplay, artificial intelligence, gunplay and graphical improvements created for Last Light were applied to both games in the PS4 release: the 2014 PlayStation Blog article.
The Xbox listing says Last Light Redux includes its previous downloadable content and offers Spartan and Survival play styles. Survival is the slower, horror-focused approach; Spartan emphasizes more direct combat. Ranger Mode removes the HUD and makes combat and resources more demanding. Those descriptions come from the store listing rather than a new review.

What is confirmed—and what is not—on October 13, 2026?
Deep Silver says the Metro franchise has passed 50 million copies worldwide; that figure covers the franchise, not either Redux game. The October update has not launched at this date, so advertised resolution, frame-rate, image-processing and audio modes are not benchmark results. Final patch notes and independent testing may clarify differences between console models after release.
