Does demo progress carry over to the Switch 2 full game?
SEGA’s general support FAQ says progress from its prologue demo can continue in the full version on supported versions, with the same story and character status. However, that FAQ does not specifically confirm that the newly released Switch 2 demo’s save transfers to the Switch 2 full game. RPG Site also reported that Switch 2-specific save-transfer behavior had not been confirmed. Do not rely on carryover for this particular edition unless ATLUS, SEGA, or Nintendo confirms it.
Is the game compatible with the original Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo lists the full game as Nintendo Switch 2 software, with TV, tabletop, and handheld play modes. The available product information does not establish that either the Switch 2 demo or full game runs on the original Nintendo Switch. Check the game’s listing for the exact edition rather than assuming compatibility from the platform name.

RPG Site reported on October 12, 2026, that the demo was available in the Japan and Australia eShops. That report does not confirm availability in every region or establish its current status elsewhere. Search for Metaphor: ReFantazio in your own Nintendo eShop to see whether the demo is listed for your account’s region.

Do you need Nintendo Switch Online?
Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately, is required for Save Data Cloud backup. That statement concerns cloud backup; it does not say that membership is required to download or play the demo, or to transfer a local save.
