“Metal Gear Solid: Raiden” is not the storefront title. The Raiden-led PC game is officially METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE, developed by PlatinumGames and published by KONAMI. It launched on January 9, 2014. Steam lists modest hardware by modern standards, but its requirements are old Windows and macOS entries—not a guarantee that every current laptop, integrated GPU, Windows release, or compatibility layer will run it correctly.
For Windows, compare your computer with the listed Core i5-2400/GTS 450 minimum or Core i7-3770/GTX 650 recommended configuration, at least 2 or 4 GB of RAM respectively, 25 GB of free storage, DirectX 9.0c support, and an XInput controller. The macOS listing has different hardware and storage requirements.
What game does “Metal Gear Solid: Raiden” refer to?
The name in the question combines the Metal Gear Solid series with its protagonist, Raiden. The PC release that matches that description is METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE. It is a PlatinumGames-developed, KONAMI-published action game in which Raiden is the playable lead. Steam identifies January 9, 2014 as its release date.

That distinction matters when you search a store, check support information, or compare a computer with the published specifications. The requirements below are for METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE, not for a separate product called “Metal Gear Solid: Raiden.”

Official Windows system requirements
Steam’s Windows listing gives a minimum and a recommended configuration. These are publisher-listed thresholds, not independent benchmark results. Meeting the minimum does not establish a particular frame rate, graphics preset, or loading time.

Steam Support separately marks an XInput controller as required. Treat that as part of the minimum compatibility checklist rather than an optional accessory.
Official macOS system requirements
The storefront also lists a Mac version. Keep these figures separate from the Windows table; the operating-system versions, graphics examples, memory, and disk requirement differ.

The Mac entries describe the versions and hardware the listing targeted when it was published. They do not demonstrate support for every later macOS release, Apple silicon Mac, external GPU, or virtualization setup. A Mac that exceeds the paper specification can still encounter compatibility problems if its operating system or graphics API differs from the original target environment.

How to compare your PC with the listing
Check each category individually. A system that passes four categories but fails the graphics requirement is not equivalent to one that passes all five.
1. Identify the operating system
On Windows, open Settings > System > About and note the Windows edition and system type. The published list names XP, Vista, 7, and 8, all of which are obsolete and unsupported by Microsoft. Current Windows 10 or Windows 11 systems are outside the versions explicitly named by the listing. That does not prove they cannot run the game; it means the old table is not a compatibility guarantee for them.
2. Check the processor
In Settings > System > About, read the processor model. Compare the exact model, not only the number of cores or its advertised clock speed, with the Core i5-2400 minimum and Core i7-3770 recommended entries. The official specification does not provide AMD equivalents, so an AMD chip cannot be classified from the listing alone by substituting a guessed model.

The same About page reports installed RAM. The Windows minimum is 2 GB and the recommended figure is 4 GB. Remember that installed memory is not the same as free memory: Windows, background applications, and integrated graphics can consume part of it while the game is running.

4. Identify the graphics processor
Open Task Manager > Performance > GPU or Device Manager > Display adapters and record the complete GPU model. The minimum named by Steam is the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450; the recommended model is the GeForce GTX 650. These are the publisher’s comparison points, not measured performance targets. The listing does not establish equivalent AMD models, modern Intel integrated GPUs, or a frame-rate expectation for any of them.
5. Verify free storage
In File Explorer > This PC, inspect the free space on the drive where Steam will install the game. Windows requires 25 GB available according to the listing. Leave additional headroom for Windows updates, shader caches, save files, and other applications; 25 GB is the stated requirement, not a recommendation for keeping a drive healthy.
6. Confirm audio and controller support
A DirectX-compatible sound card is listed for Windows. More importantly for playability, Steam Support says an XInput controller is required. Confirm that your controller appears in Windows and is recognized as an XInput device before assuming that a keyboard, a generic gamepad, or an adapter will work. If a controller has an XInput/D-input switch, use its XInput mode.
Minimum versus recommended: what the gap tells you

Use “recommended” as a safer starting point for troubleshooting, not as a guarantee of a fixed frame rate. No official source in the published requirements supplies frame-rate tests, graphics presets, resolution targets, or CPU/GPU equivalency charts.

Can a modern Windows PC run it?
Many modern PCs have hardware far newer than the named 2010–2012-era components, but the age of the hardware table creates two separate questions: raw capability and software compatibility. A current discrete GPU may easily exceed the listed GTS 450 or GTX 650 in general performance, yet the official requirements do not certify that specific model. An integrated GPU may also be powerful enough in practice, but the listing does not establish that equivalence.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 are not among the operating systems printed in the original table. Therefore, a “passes the requirements” conclusion for a current machine should be worded as hardware meets or exceeds the listed thresholds, while modern-OS operation remains configuration-dependent. The same caution applies to Steam’s current client, updated graphics drivers, high-DPI displays, overlays, and compatibility modes.

- In Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices and confirm that it is paired or connected.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
joy.cpl, and use the controller’s Properties/Test screen to verify button and stick input. - In Steam, open Settings > Controller and check that the device is detected. If the controller offers XInput mode, select it before launching the game.
A controller that is visible to Windows but not presented as XInput can still fail the game’s input check. Remapping software, hubs, and adapters add variables; test with the simplest direct connection first.

Common compatibility problems and sensible checks
The game starts but performance is poor
First compare the exact GPU and CPU models with the table, then close overlays and background applications and verify that the game is using the intended GPU on a dual-GPU laptop. Do not infer a guaranteed frame rate from the minimum or recommended label; the official material contains no benchmark for your resolution, driver, or graphics settings.
The game does not recognize the gamepad
Check joy.cpl, switch the pad to XInput mode, reconnect it without a hub, and test again in Steam’s controller settings. A keyboard-only setup does not satisfy Steam Support’s stated requirement.
There is not enough disk space
Free at least the listed 25 GB on Windows or 27 GB on macOS on the installation volume. If Steam still refuses the install, check the actual destination library rather than another drive and leave extra space for temporary installation files.

A modern operating system or Mac refuses to launch
The old storefront requirements do not document behavior on every current Windows build, later macOS release, Apple silicon system, virtual machine, or compatibility layer. Update the platform and graphics driver, disable overlays, and consult current Steam support information for the exact error. If the issue is tied to an unsupported operating-system or hardware combination, the published table alone cannot promise a fix.
Compatibility decision checklist
- Windows hardware: Core i5-2400 or better by the listing’s model comparison; GTS 450 minimum or GTX 650 recommended; 2 GB RAM minimum or 4 GB recommended; 25 GB free storage.
- Windows software: DirectX 9.0c capability and a current system whose behavior is not assumed from the obsolete XP/Vista/7/8 labels.
- Input: an XInput-compatible controller, verified in Windows and Steam.
- Mac hardware: Intel Core i-series processor, 4 or 8 GB RAM depending on tier, the specified AMD/Nvidia/Intel graphics class, and 27 GB free storage.
- Evidence limits: no official frame-rate results, modern AMD equivalents, current Windows benchmark, or universal integrated-GPU guarantee is provided by the requirements.
If every applicable category passes, your computer matches the published specification on paper. That is the strongest conclusion supported by the listing; actual operation still depends on the operating system, drivers, controller, and game configuration.
