Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 starts at $449 in the U.S., compared with Gen 2’s $379 U.S. launch price. That is a $70 difference between the announced starting prices—not a live comparison of what either pair costs today. Gen 3 adds a customizable action button, adjustable temple tips, a six-microphone array and dynamic photos; both generations are advertised with 3K video. Whether the newer model is worth more depends on its current local price, your preferred frame and how much those additions matter to you.
How the prices compare
Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 at a U.S. starting price of $449 on September 23, 2026. Gen 2 launched at $379 on September 17, 2025. The $70 difference is the arithmetic gap between those two announced U.S. starting prices. Gen 2’s figure is historical launch pricing, not a verified current retail price, and neither figure establishes what a particular frame, lens or prescription configuration costs now. See Meta’s Gen 3 announcement and Gen 2 announcement.
In India, Meta’s October 2026 announcement lists Gen 3 from INR 44,300. That is a separate market price, not a direct retail equivalent of the U.S. price. Check current local listings for the exact generation, frame, lens and prescription configuration before deciding.

Battery life
Meta says Gen 3 offers up to nine hours of battery life, one hour more than Gen 2’s stated up to eight hours of typical use. Those descriptions do not establish a standardized, like-for-like test, so the figures are manufacturer claims rather than a guarantee of the runtime you will get. Meta’s Gen 3 announcement is here; its Gen 2 announcement gives the typical-use qualification here.

Controls, calls and fit
- Action button: Gen 3 has a customizable button for instant access to Meta AI, according to Meta.
- Microphones: Meta says Gen 3’s six-microphone array cuts more than 90% of background noise. The announcement does not provide an independent test method for that figure.
- Temple tips: Gen 3’s tips are professionally adjustable, which Meta describes as a fit improvement. Fit remains personal; try the frame if possible, particularly if you need a prescription configuration.
These are documented Gen 3 additions; the announcements cited here do not establish an equivalent feature-by-feature test of Gen 2. Gen 3’s feature descriptions appear in Meta’s product announcement.
Camera and video
Gen 3 has a 12-megapixel camera and records 3K Ultra HD video, and Meta lists a new dynamic-photo feature that lets users choose the best frame. Gen 2’s announcement also describes 3K Ultra HD video, with ultrawide HDR and capture up to 60 frames per second. The official specifications therefore support a new dynamic-photo feature, but do not establish that Gen 3 raises the video resolution over Gen 2. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent camera tests.

Frames and colors
Meta announced Gen 3 in 27 color-and-lens combinations across Aviator, Zena and Wayfarer styles. The Gen 2 announcement lists Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner. Frame and lens availability can differ by region and configuration, so confirm the exact option locally rather than assuming every announced combination is for sale where you live.
What Gen 2’s charging details do—and don’t—tell you
Meta said Gen 2’s included charging case can provide an additional 48 hours of charging on the go, and that the glasses can charge to 50% in 20 minutes. The Gen 3 announcement reviewed here does not give a directly comparable case-capacity or charge-time figure. That absence is not evidence that Gen 3’s case is better or worse; it means these sources do not support a generation-to-generation comparison on those measures.

How to choose between them
- Consider Gen 3 if its current local price is acceptable and you value the customizable action button, adjustable temple tips, dynamic photos or Meta’s stated battery and microphone upgrades.
- Consider Gen 2 if its current price is lower and its available frame and lens suit you. Its 2025 launch price is not enough to establish today’s savings; compare current listings.
- Compare the actual configuration before buying: generation, frame, lens, prescription compatibility, regional availability and current price can all affect whether two listings are meaningfully comparable.
Both generations have a built-in capture LED, according to Meta’s Gen 3 announcement. Treat it as a notice light, not proof that everyone nearby has consented to recording or that the light guarantees privacy.

The cited announcements are Meta’s product claims, not independent comparative tests of battery runtime, camera quality, microphone performance or fit. They establish the features Meta announced, but not how much better Gen 3 performs in everyday use. Gen 1 is a separate earlier collection; its specifications and $299 September 2023 starting price should not be treated as Gen 2 or Gen 3 details. Meta’s original announcement is available here.
