Messenger message requests are kept outside your main chat list. Open Message requests and check both the regular requests list and its spam-related folder, which may be labeled Spam, Filtered or Hidden requests.
Where to find message requests in Messenger

Open Messenger and tap your profile picture or the menu control.

Choose Message requests.

Check the regular requests list. Meta’s safety document labels this section You may know.

Check the spam-related section as well. Depending on the interface, it may be called Spam, Filtered or Hidden requests.

On mobile, a third-party guide updated in August 2026 describes the route as profile picture > Message requests > Filtered/Spam: Guiding Tech’s instructions for finding filtered requests. Labels and placement can differ by app version, so use the names visible in your app rather than assuming every screen matches that route.
What the regular and filtered folders contain

Meta’s Message requests interface notice says: “You can open a message request for more info on who sent it. They won’t be notified you opened it. Decide who can message you.” The same document describes Hidden requests this way: “Requests containing messages that may be offensive or unwanted are moved to this folder.” See Meta’s 2021 explanation of Messenger and Instagram safety updates.

Finding requests on a computer
Open Message requests from Messenger or Facebook’s messaging interface, then look for the spam-related section as well as the ordinary requests list. The exact desktop clicks are not established as universal: interface placement and labels can vary, so if the options are not where expected, consult the Messenger Help Center for your app and locale.

If a message still seems missing
Check both the regular request list and the spam-related folder. A filtered request could explain why a message is absent from the main chat list, but that does not mean every missing message will be in Message requests.

If a request looks like spam or makes you uncomfortable, do not engage with it. Meta says you can block the sender or report the message; its guidance on blocking or reporting messages explains those safety options.
