Melty is a free Windows launcher that packages community-made game mashups behind a single Play button. It can download a mashup, install the components it needs and start the host game. The catch is fundamental: Melty does not give you the commercial games being combined. You must own every base title required by the mashup, or Melty sends you to that game’s normal store.
What Melty does
Melty, made by Stella Montis Inc., is designed to combine games already in your library. Its catalog presents mashups as ready-to-run experiences rather than asking you to assemble mod folders, profiles and launch options manually. The product site summarizes the flow as “Just Press Play. Melty installs what it needs and starts the game.”
Examples currently highlighted by Melty include SkyCraft, Elden Craft, Super Mario Ring, Skate Warfare, Portal Life and Spartan Warfare. These are community mashups built around existing commercial games, not replacements for those games.
The ownership requirement is the catch
Melty and its mashups are described as free, but the underlying games are not supplied by the launcher. Its usage guide states that “Mashups run on games you own. If you are missing one, Melty sends you to its store.” In practical terms, a one-click setup removes technical installation work; it does not remove licensing costs or ownership requirements.

What you need before pressing Play
- A Windows PC capable of running the Melty desktop app and the selected host game.
- The Melty application.
- A license for each base game used by the mashup.
- Enough disk space and the relevant game launchers or installation files required by those titles.
If a mashup combines Minecraft and Elden Ring, for example, you should expect to need both games. If one is absent, the launcher can direct you to the applicable store rather than silently providing it.

How to launch a mashup
- Install the Melty Windows app.
- Open the catalog and select a mashup.
- Check the listed base games and confirm that you own them.
- Press Play. Melty downloads the mashup and installs the components it needs.
- Allow the host game to start, then follow any in-game or multiplayer instructions provided by that mashup.
- For supported multiplayer experiences, use the generated invite link to bring in other players.
The launcher guide also describes sharing an invite link and publishing a mashup after you have created or selected one.

Melty uses “AI game merging” in two ways: joining two games in one play session, or using an AI coding agent to publish a new merge. Its documentation specifically names Claude Code and Codex. The documented workflow is to copy Melty’s instructions into one of those agents, describe the mashup you want, and let the agent build and publish it through Melty’s process.

What AI does—and does not—mean here
This is not a promise that an agent creates a wholly original commercial-scale game from a sentence. The stated use is to produce a playable merge built around games and assets you already have access to. Results will depend on the requested concept, the participating games and whether the resulting mashup is supported by Melty.

Safety, reversibility and realistic limits
Melty says uninstalling restores files and that uploaded mashups are checked for dangerous files. Those are vendor claims; no independent malware audit or security test was identified. Treat unfamiliar community uploads cautiously, keep security software enabled and avoid granting an AI agent permissions you do not understand.

There is also no independent performance benchmark, user-count figure or statistical study establishing how reliably every mashup runs. Compatibility, catalog entries, pricing and supported AI integrations may change. A mashup can therefore be attractive as a convenient experiment while still requiring the same troubleshooting and hardware capacity as its underlying games.

Is Melty free?
The launcher and listed mashups are described as free. Any missing commercial base games must still be obtained through their normal stores.

Do I need to own Minecraft and Elden Ring?
For a mashup that uses both, yes. Melty requires ownership of each base game involved.
Does Melty work on Windows?
The documented product is a Windows desktop application.
Can AI make a playable mashup?
Melty’s documented workflow lets users give instructions to Claude Code or Codex to build and publish a merge. The resulting experience still depends on the participating games and Melty’s support.
