The three MCP servers highlighted here connect an AI host to local project files, GitHub repositories, and PostgreSQL databases. They can support code reading, pull-request review, and data queries—but access and setup depend on each server’s current configuration and the host application. The original article’s author describes using these integrations daily; that personal usage claim has not been independently verified.
What these three MCP servers connect to
MCP is an open standard that lets AI applications connect to tools and data systems. A server can expose tools, resources, and prompts for a compatible host to use. The three integrations named in the article serve different purposes:
| Server | Connects to | Example task | Access to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filesystem | Local files and directories | Read and explain project code | Which paths the server can access |
| GitHub | Repositories and repository activity | Review recent pull requests | What repository data and actions are permitted |
| PostgreSQL | A PostgreSQL database | Query application data | Which databases, tables, and operations are permitted |
This is a use-case comparison, not a performance ranking. Permissions vary with the specific server and its configuration; do not assume GitHub or database access is read-only.
Filesystem: let the host inspect project files
A filesystem server gives the AI host access to configured local paths. The article suggests pointing it at a project root so it can examine files in that project. A sample prompt is: “Read the auth module and explain how the token validation works.”

Keep the configured scope to the directories the assistant needs. A broad path could expose far more than the intended project, potentially including unrelated files across the disk. Check the server’s current permissions and path configuration before connecting it to private or sensitive material.
GitHub: review repository activity
A GitHub server can support repository browsing and review tasks. One example prompt from the article is: “Check what changed in the last 3 PRs and summarize.” The prompt illustrates a possible workflow; it does not establish that a particular server supports that exact request or what actions it can take.
Before connecting a private repository, inspect the specific server’s permission model and configuration. Confirm what it can read or change rather than assuming it is limited to viewing issues, pull requests, or code.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →PostgreSQL: ask questions about database records
A PostgreSQL server can make database querying available through the conversation. The article’s example is finding users who signed up but have not logged in. That task depends on the database’s schema and on the server’s actual query capabilities; the example is not a tested workflow.

Review the server’s permissions and connection settings before connecting a sensitive database. The available information does not establish that the named integration is read-only, so verify which operations it permits.

The article gives a short recipe: install a server, add its configuration to claude_desktop_config.json, then restart Claude Desktop. It mentions mcp-hub install <server>, but that command and the packages it installs have not been independently confirmed here. Treat package names and install instructions as version-sensitive and check the selected server’s current upstream documentation before running anything.

The official MCP Python SDK guide documents local-server configuration for Claude Desktop. In that arrangement, the host launches a server as a child process and communicates over stdin and stdout. The guide recommends absolute paths and says to fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop after editing configuration. Follow the guide’s current, host-specific instructions rather than treating the article’s brief recipe as a universal configuration format.
- Choose the server and verify its instructions. Find the current upstream setup steps for the specific filesystem, GitHub, or PostgreSQL server you intend to use. Check its package identity, required runtime, configuration options, and permissions before installation.
- Install it using the verified instructions. Do not assume
mcp-hub install <server>is current or applicable to every server. Use the installation method documented for that server and version. - Configure Claude Desktop. Add the server details to Claude Desktop’s configuration file as directed by the server and host documentation. Use absolute paths where applicable, and limit access to the directories, repositories, or database operations required for the task.
- Fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop. A complete restart applies configuration changes; merely closing a window may not fully exit the application.
- Check the connection and scope. Confirm the server is available in the host and that its permissions match what you intended before using it with private code or data.
Other MCP-compatible hosts may use different configuration files, installation methods, or server-launch conventions. Claude Desktop’s JSON configuration should not be assumed to apply to other clients. The MCP project also documents a portable local-server bundle format supported by compatible clients, including Claude Desktop and Claude Code; that ecosystem option does not establish that these three particular servers are distributed as bundles.
Quick Recap
What to verify before connecting private data
- Filesystem: Restrict access to the necessary project directories instead of granting broad disk access.
- GitHub: Check which repositories and actions the server can access.
- PostgreSQL: Check the database scope and allowed operations; do not infer read-only access.
- All three: Verify the current upstream installation and configuration instructions for the exact server version you plan to use.
