There is no official, exhaustive directory of every MCP server for Apple platforms. The useful 2026 landscape has five distinct choices: the official Swift SDK for building your own client or server, Apple’s Xcode-provided bridge for project and build actions, a hosted Apple-documentation endpoint, a SourceKit-LSP server for semantic Swift analysis, and local servers that operate iOS Simulators.

Choose by the job you need done. Xcode automation belongs with Apple’s bridge; documentation lookup is a good fit for the hosted endpoint; symbol-aware Swift work needs SourceKit-LSP; simulator testing requires a Mac with Apple’s simulator toolchain. The sections below explain capabilities, requirements, transports, permissions, security and setup.

What an MCP server does on Apple platforms

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard interface through which an AI client discovers tools and data exposed by a server. On Apple platforms, a server might let an agent inspect Swift symbols, search Apple guidance, change an Xcode project, build an app or drive a running Simulator. These are separate capabilities, not interchangeable features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Most servers in this landscape run locally on macOS because Xcode, SourceKit-LSP, simctl and iOS Simulator are macOS tools. A hosted HTTP endpoint can be used from other machines, but its data path and authentication model differ from a local process.

The five practical categories

1. The official Swift SDK: build a client or server

The Model Context Protocol Swift SDK is the first-party development foundation for Swift applications. It implements both sides of MCP, so you can embed an MCP client in a Swift app or publish your own server as a Swift package. It is the right starting point when you need a custom internal tool, an Apple-platform app that consumes MCP, or a server whose tools are specific to your codebase.

The documented baseline is Swift 6.0 or newer and Xcode 16 or newer. Minimum deployment targets are macOS 13 or newer, iOS and Mac Catalyst 16 or newer, watchOS 9 or newer, tvOS 16 or newer, and visionOS 1 or newer.

SDK area What it provides When to choose it
Client implementation Your Swift program connects to MCP tools and resources. You are building an app or internal utility that consumes AI-accessible services.
Server implementation Your Swift code publishes tools and resources to an MCP client. You need domain-specific automation or want to expose Apple-platform logic.
StdioTransport Communication with a local process over standard input and output. Use for a local agent launching a server on the same Mac.
HTTP client transport A Swift client connects to an HTTP MCP service. Use when the service is remote or centrally hosted.
Stateless HTTP server transport HTTP requests do not depend on server-side session state. Useful for horizontally scalable or simple request/response deployments.
Stateful HTTP server transport The server keeps MCP session state between requests. Use when an interaction needs continuity across calls.

The SDK is a toolkit, not a ready-made Xcode automation server. You still define tools, validation, authorization and the data those tools may expose. Its platform matrix makes it possible to share most protocol code while applying each Apple target’s deployment constraints.

2. Apple’s Xcode MCP server and xcrun mcpbridge

Apple now documents an Xcode-provided MCP server for external agents. Apple’s description says you can give agents launched outside Xcode permission to modify an Xcode project and perform actions such as building the app. This is the first-party option for project-level work and should be the default choice when the requested action is an Xcode operation rather than generic file editing.

  1. Open Xcode and choose Xcode > Settings.
  2. Open the Intelligence pane.
  3. Enable Allow external agents to use Xcode tools.
  4. Configure the MCP client to start Apple’s bridge with xcrun mcpbridge.
  5. Review the client’s displayed permissions before allowing an agent to edit project files or initiate a build.

Apple’s examples cover clients such as Claude Code and Codex, but the important part is the bridge command and the permission switch in Xcode. Keep the bridge limited to projects and actions the agent actually needs. A build-capable agent can affect source files, project settings and generated products, so treat this as privileged developer automation.

3. Sosumi: hosted Apple documentation access

Sosumi publishes an MCP endpoint at https://sosumi.ai/mcp. Its setup guidance includes GitHub Copilot for Xcode and Cursor. The documented examples cover Swift, SwiftUI, Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines, WWDC sessions and Swift Package Index material.

This category is for answering “How does Apple recommend doing this?” questions, finding API guidance and grounding generated code in platform documentation. It does not provide Xcode project mutation, semantic symbol operations or Simulator input. Because the endpoint is hosted, prompts and retrieved context travel over a network service rather than staying entirely on your Mac; check the service’s current terms, authentication and retention details before sending proprietary code.

4. SwiftLens: SourceKit-LSP semantic understanding

SwiftLens connects MCP clients to Apple’s SourceKit-LSP and describes its purpose as deep, semantic-level analysis of Swift codebases. Symbol information, navigation and code operations are the differentiators over plain text search. An agent can reason about declarations and references instead of treating every file as an unstructured document.

The listed prerequisites are macOS, Python 3.10 or newer and a full Xcode installation. A full Xcode install matters because SourceKit-LSP and its toolchain components are not equivalent to having only a lightweight editor or command-line package.

GitHub marks the SwiftLens repository archived on March 10, 2026. An archived repository may remain useful, but it signals that you should verify compatibility with your Xcode and Swift versions, inspect dependencies and assess security before granting it access to a private codebase. Do not assume new language features or bug fixes will arrive.

5. Simulator-control servers

Two representative projects expose different approaches to driving iOS Simulators.

simulator-mcp uses Apple’s simctl tooling. Its capabilities include screenshots, taps, swipes, opening URLs and deep links, appearance changes and status-bar controls. It requires macOS, Xcode or the Command Line Tools, and Node.js 18 or newer. It is a good fit for repeatable UI inspection and interaction when your workflow already relies on simctl.

Neither server replaces XCTest or a full UI-test suite. They expose interactive controls to an agent; deterministic regression testing still needs your normal test target, fixtures and CI process.

How to choose a server

Choose by the operation, not by the word “MCP”

  • Build, configure or edit an Xcode project: start with Apple’s Xcode server and keep the external-agent permission scoped to the project.
  • Look up API behavior or design guidance: use the hosted documentation endpoint.
  • Understand symbols, references or Swift structure: use a SourceKit-LSP integration such as SwiftLens, after checking its archived status.
  • Tap, swipe, inspect accessibility or capture a Simulator screen: select a simulator-control server.
  • Expose a proprietary workflow or support a new Apple target: build a server or client with the official Swift SDK.

Compare deployment and data boundaries

Local stdio keeps the MCP process on the Mac and is usually the simplest boundary for developer tools. HTTP can be local or remote. A remote endpoint requires decisions about credentials, TLS, logs and whether source code or prompts leave the development machine. Stateful HTTP also requires session handling and cleanup; stateless HTTP is easier to scale but cannot rely on server-held conversational state.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check maintenance before granting access

Record the server version, required Xcode and runtime versions, repository activity and security advisories. SwiftLens’s archive date and the pre-1.3.3 vulnerability history of ios-simulator-mcp are concrete reminders that capability alone is not a maintenance guarantee. Pin versions where your package manager permits it, review changes before upgrades and remove unused servers from client configuration.

Practical setup patterns

Using the Swift SDK in a new project

  1. Confirm Swift 6.0 or newer and Xcode 16 or newer.
  2. Set the deployment target to a documented minimum for your destination platform.
  3. Add the official MCP Swift package through Xcode’s Swift Package dependency interface.
  4. Decide whether your process is an MCP client, an MCP server or both.
  5. Select a transport: StdioTransport for a local child process, HTTP client transport for a remote service, or stateless/stateful HTTP server transport according to your session needs.
  6. Define the smallest set of tools and resources required, validate all arguments and return structured errors.
  7. Test on each Apple target you claim to support; platform APIs and sandbox behavior can differ even when protocol code is shared.

Connecting an agent to Xcode

Use the four-step Xcode path above, then verify the client can see the bridge before asking it to modify files. Start with a read-only request such as listing project context, inspect the proposed changes, and only then permit edits or a build. If the bridge is unavailable, recheck the Intelligence setting, the Xcode installation selected by the command-line tools and the client’s MCP configuration.

Adding documentation search

  1. Open the MCP settings for your chosen client.
  2. Add the endpoint exactly as https://sosumi.ai/mcp.
  3. Complete the client’s connection or authentication flow, if one is required.
  4. Ask a narrowly scoped question and inspect the returned source context before generating code.

Use documentation search to confirm availability and platform annotations. It should complement, not replace, the compiler and Xcode documentation installed with your project.

Preparing semantic Swift analysis

  1. Install a full Xcode release and confirm the project builds locally.
  2. Verify Python 3.10 or newer is available.
  3. Install SwiftLens following its project instructions and configure the MCP client to launch it locally.
  4. Test symbol lookup and navigation on a small, non-sensitive repository.
  5. Re-evaluate the setup after Xcode upgrades because the repository is archived as of March 10, 2026.

Preparing Simulator control

  1. Install the required Xcode and iOS Simulator runtimes on a Mac.
  2. For ios-simulator-mcp, install Node.js 20 or newer and Facebook IDB; for simulator-mcp, use Node.js 18 or newer.
  3. Boot a test Simulator and confirm the server can discover it.
  4. Grant only the UI and inspection operations your workflow needs.
  5. For ios-simulator-mcp, verify the installed version includes the command-injection fix reported for versions before 1.3.3.
  6. Use a disposable app and test account when an agent can open URLs, enter text or trigger deep links.

Troubleshooting and failure modes

The client cannot discover tools

Confirm the process starts, the selected transport matches the client configuration and required runtimes are on the executable path. For local stdio, check that diagnostic output is not being written to standard output where it could corrupt protocol messages. For HTTP, verify the endpoint, TLS and any required authentication.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Xcode refuses an external action

Return to Xcode > Settings > Intelligence and verify Allow external agents to use Xcode tools. Then run xcrun mcpbridge from the same developer-tool installation used by the client. Keep Xcode open and test a harmless request before retrying a build.

SourceKit results are incomplete

Open the project in the full Xcode toolchain, ensure dependencies resolve and confirm the selected Swift language mode. SourceKit-LSP needs a project context; a detached file or an unresolved package graph can prevent accurate symbol relationships.

Simulator actions target the wrong device

Boot only the intended test device, use the server’s device-discovery result, and close stale Simulator instances. Check that the installed runtime matches the app’s deployment target and that accessibility data is available when the workflow depends on it.

Security checklist

  • Prefer local transports for private source unless a hosted service is explicitly approved.
  • Give Xcode agents the minimum project and build permissions necessary.
  • Review tool arguments before allowing filesystem writes, URL launches or Simulator input.
  • Track versions and read security advisories before upgrades.
  • Do not place signing credentials, production tokens or customer data in prompts or test fixtures.
  • Separate development and production accounts when an agent can invoke deep links or network actions.
  • Remove archived or unused servers from client configuration.

What this landscape does—and does not—cover

These projects represent the main practical categories available to Apple-platform developers, not a canonical list of every MCP server. Availability, client compatibility and feature sets can change independently. The official SDK, Apple’s Xcode bridge, the hosted documentation endpoint, SourceKit-LSP tooling and Simulator controllers solve different problems; combining them can create a capable workflow, but each additional server expands permissions, maintenance and data exposure.
