MBD Group says its MBD AI STEAM Championship 2026 brought nearly 70 students from Classes 6 to 8 and 16 schools to an inter-school robotics competition in New Delhi on September 28, 2026. The organizer reported two rounds—Robo Soccer and Pick & Place—with Lavi Public School taking the title.
What happened at the MBD AI STEAM Championship
MBD Group reported that the MBD AI STEAM Championship 2026 was held in New Delhi on September 28, 2026. Its October 6 newsroom announcement described the event as an inter-school robotics challenge for students in Classes 6 to 8, with nearly 70 participants. MBD said the competition connected Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) concepts with a practical learning contest.
The participant and school totals are organizer-reported figures. The available event coverage does not include an independently audited attendance count or an outside account of the competition.

Schools and student participation
MBD’s event posts said 16 schools took part. Students had to apply classroom concepts in a timed, competitive setting rather than only complete an individual demonstration. That format can require teams to divide responsibilities, test designs, diagnose failures and communicate decisions while a challenge is in progress.

The coverage does not identify the teams’ robot hardware, sensors, motors, coding language or software platform. It is therefore not possible to say which kit or manufacturer participants used, or whether every school used the same equipment.
The two reported robotics challenges
Robo Soccer
In the Robo Soccer round, MBD said students competed with robots in a soccer-themed task. A challenge of this type generally tests controlled movement, steering, timing and the ability to respond to an opponent or a changing position on the field. MBD’s posts name the round but do not publish the field dimensions, match rules, scoring system, time limits or technical specifications, so those details should not be inferred.

Pick & Place
The second round was called Pick & Place. MBD’s description identifies the activity as part of the championship, but does not provide the object sizes, permitted mechanisms, target locations or scoring rules. The name indicates a task built around moving an item to a designated position, an exercise that can connect mechanical design with sensing, control logic and accuracy.

Why a robotics competition fits STEAM learning
Robotics makes the links among STEAM subjects visible in one project. Students may use mathematics to estimate distance and speed, science to reason about friction and motion, engineering to build and revise a mechanism, technology to connect electronics and programming, and arts-based thinking to improve a design’s usability or presentation.

A competition also adds constraints that ordinary classroom exercises may not have. A robot that works during a practice run may need a sturdier chassis, more reliable wiring or simpler control logic before it can perform repeatedly. Teams learn that troubleshooting is part of engineering, not evidence that a project has failed.
How students can try similar projects
Families and schools that want a comparable hands-on activity can start with a beginner robotics kit or an Arduino robotics kit for students. MBD separately describes its Robotics Lab on Wheels initiative as using Arduino boards, sensors, motors and robotics kits for practical STEM learning. That information supports the general equipment category, but it does not establish that the championship itself used Arduino or any particular commercial kit.

- Choose a manageable goal. Begin with a small rover that can drive forward, turn and stop, rather than attempting a competition-scale robot immediately.
- Build and test one subsystem at a time. Check the power supply, motor direction and sensor readings separately before combining them.
- Measure performance. Record stopping distance, turning consistency and successful object moves so changes can be compared.
- Design a simple challenge. A taped floor course, target zone or lightweight object can reproduce the core ideas behind navigation and Pick & Place.
- Make safety part of the lesson. Use protected wiring, keep fingers clear of moving parts and have an adult supervise batteries, tools and soldering.
What is not yet known
The event coverage does not provide a registration route for a future championship, announce another edition, or publish the technical rules. It also does not identify a winning team’s robot design, the judging criteria or the students’ individual names. Readers looking for a repeat event will need to rely on a later announcement from MBD Group rather than assume that the 2026 format or schedule will return.
