If your Maya Mobile eSIM is not working, first confirm that you are in the destination covered by the plan. An eSIM can be installed before a trip, but it will not connect until you arrive in its service area. Keep the eSIM installed while troubleshooting; deleting it can make support and reactivation harder.

Then check, in order, that the Maya line is switched on, data roaming is enabled for that line, the phone has selected it for mobile data, and (on Android) the APN is globaldata. Toggle Airplane Mode for 30 seconds and allow up to 15 minutes for authentication. The steps below separate installation errors from no-signal and no-data problems so you can apply the right fix.

Identify which problem you have

“Not working” can describe several different states. Use the symptom that matches your phone before changing settings.

The instructions in this guide come from Maya Mobile’s official support documentation, including the eSIM Connection Troubleshooting Guide and eSIM Quick Start Guide. They are provider instructions, not an independent test of every handset or network.

Do these checks before changing anything

Verify the plan’s destination

Maya Mobile eSIMs work only in the service area purchased with the plan. You may install one at home or before flying, but installation alone does not produce a signal. If you are still outside that country or region, “No Service” is expected. Check the destination in your Maya account and compare it with your current location before attempting resets or reinstallations.

Do not delete the eSIM

Maya’s connection guide gives this explicit warning: “DO NOT DELETE THE eSIM FROM YOUR PHONE!” Keep the profile installed while you diagnose the problem. If you have already removed it, do not repeatedly scan the same QR code; contact Maya support with your order and device details first.

Use a working internet connection for installation

Initial installation requires internet access. Use reliable Wi-Fi or another active SIM’s data connection while adding the plan. A phone can sometimes finish installing a plan in the background even after displaying an error, so inspect the SIM settings before trying the installation again.

Turn on the Maya line and choose it for data

iPhone

  1. Open Settings > Cellular. Depending on the iOS version or region, this may be called Mobile Service or Mobile Data.
  2. Tap the Maya plan. The label may be a name you assigned, such as Travel, Secondary, or Personal.
  3. Turn on Turn On This Line.
  4. Enable Data Roaming for the Maya line.
  5. Return to the Cellular screen, open Cellular Data (or Mobile Data), and select the Maya eSIM as the data line.

Leave your home line available for calls or texts if you need it, but turn roaming off on that primary line to reduce the risk of home-carrier roaming charges. Maya’s quick-start guidance also recommends Low Data Mode on iPhone to limit background use while traveling.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Open Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager.
  2. Choose the Maya eSIM under the mobile-data selection and make sure the profile is enabled.
  3. Open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks.
  4. Turn on Data Roaming for the Maya line.

Check the SIM Card Manager again after saving. The phone must use the Maya profile for mobile data; merely having the profile installed is not enough.

Google Pixel

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs.
  2. Select the Maya eSIM.
  3. Turn on the SIM and Mobile Data.
  4. Turn on Roaming or Data Roaming.
  5. If the phone asks which SIM should provide data, choose Maya.

Other Android phones use similar controls under SIM manager, Mobile network, or Connections. Search Settings for “roaming” or “SIM” if the exact path differs.

Fix Android internet access with the Maya APN

If the Maya eSIM shows signal but Android has no internet, check its Access Point Name (APN). Maya’s Android troubleshooting instructions specify globaldata.

  1. Open the Maya eSIM’s mobile-network settings.
  2. Choose Access Point Names (sometimes under Advanced).
  3. Create a new APN or edit the active one.
  4. Enter globaldata in the APN field.
  5. Leave the username and password blank. Remove values if the phone filled them automatically.
  6. Save the APN and select it as active.
  7. Toggle Airplane Mode as described in the next section, then test a webpage.

This APN instruction is specifically for Android in Maya’s guide. Do not enter globaldata on an iPhone based on this troubleshooting step; iPhone users should use the carrier settings provided automatically by iOS.

Reconnect and allow authentication time

A temporary registration failure can clear when the handset starts a fresh network search.

  1. Turn on Airplane Mode.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Turn Airplane Mode off.
  4. Confirm that the Maya line, roaming, and data-SIM selection are still enabled.
  5. Wait up to 15 minutes for authentication and 4G LTE or 5G data to begin.

Maya gives the “up to 15 minutes” period in both its connection-troubleshooting and installation guidance. It is a provider instruction, not a guaranteed connection time or an independently measured success rate. Avoid repeatedly deleting and reinstalling the plan during this waiting period.

Try manual network selection when automatic selection fails

If you are in the correct destination, the line is active, and the phone still will not register, manual selection can reveal whether an available partner network is being missed. This does not overcome a local coverage gap, an outage, or a network problem outside Maya’s control.

iPhone procedure

  1. Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service) and tap the Maya eSIM.
  2. Open Network Selection.
  3. Turn Automatic off and wait for the list of networks to load.
  4. Tap an available network and wait for registration.
  5. After you find a working connection, return to Network Selection and turn Automatic back on.

If no networks appear, or every listed network rejects registration, return to automatic mode and continue with the support steps rather than repeatedly forcing selections.

Understand common installation errors

“Unsupported eSIM”

Maya reproduces the message “This eSIM is from a carrier that is not currently supported on this iPhone” in its “Unsupported eSIM” guide. The usual cause identified there is a carrier-locked iPhone.

  1. Open Settings > General > About.
  2. Find Carrier Lock.
  3. Confirm that it says No SIM restrictions.

If the phone shows a restriction, the original carrier must unlock it. Maya cannot remove that lock. Do not keep retrying the QR code until the device is unlocked.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Data Plan Cannot be Added” on iPhone

Maya’s iPhone error guide says installation needs a working internet connection and notes that the eSIM may already have installed in the background.

  1. Connect the iPhone to dependable Wi-Fi or another working data line.
  2. Open Settings > Cellular or Mobile Data.
  3. Look for the Maya plan, including a profile with a name you did not expect.
  4. If it is present, enable the line, enable roaming, and select it for data instead of installing again.
  5. If it is absent, retry the installation only after confirming the internet connection is stable.

“Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change”

According to Maya’s cellular-plan-change error guide, the activation server may not be reachable. Listed causes include no working internet, a plan that was already installed, or too many eSIMs on the device.

Check the Cellular or SIM settings first, remove only an obsolete profile you are certain you no longer need, and make sure the phone is online. Maya states that an activation code can be used up to three times on one device. Do not consume repeated attempts while the phone is offline or while an existing Maya profile is still being overlooked in settings.

The QR code will not scan

Supported devices can use a manual activation code instead. Open your Maya account and use the code shown for the plan, following the device-specific directions in Maya’s manual activation-code guide. The exact menu differs between iPhone, Pixel, Samsung, and other Android models.

On iPhone, the option is generally inside Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM; look for an option to enter details manually rather than scanning. On Android, open the SIM manager’s option to add an eSIM and choose manual entry if the handset offers it. Keep the phone connected to the internet during the process, and verify that the plan is not already listed before starting another attempt.

Protect your primary SIM and control background usage

Travel eSIMs normally need roaming enabled because they connect through a partner network. That setting should apply to the Maya line, not automatically to your home line. Turn roaming off on the primary/home SIM to help prevent unexpected home-carrier roaming charges, while leaving it enabled on Maya.

Background synchronization can consume a limited travel allowance. On iPhone, enable Low Data Mode for the Maya line. On Android, enable Data Saver. These controls reduce background traffic but do not repair a registration failure; use them after the line is connected.

When the eSIM has signal but data still fails

  • Confirm the phone’s cellular-data selector points to Maya, not the home SIM.
  • Confirm Data Roaming is enabled on Maya.
  • On Android, confirm globaldata is the selected APN and that username and password are blank.
  • Open a simple webpage after the Airplane Mode reset; one app may be offline while the connection itself works.
  • Temporarily disable a VPN or restrictive private-DNS setting if it prevents all traffic, then test again. Re-enable it after testing if you need it for security.

The first three checks are the provider’s documented requirements. VPN and private-DNS behavior varies by handset and network, so treat those as isolation tests rather than Maya-specific fixes.

When there is still no signal

After confirming the destination, keep the Maya profile enabled and complete the 30-second Airplane Mode reset. If the phone remains on “Searching” or “No Service,” try manual network selection on iPhone as described above. A phone can also be in a location with no compatible partner coverage, or the local network may be experiencing an outage; settings changes cannot resolve those conditions.

Apple iPhone Air, US Version, 512GB, eSIM, Sky Blue- Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Universal Carrier Compatibility: This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.)
  • Carrier Verification Required: Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility
  • Simple Activation Process: When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service
  • Package Contents: The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable
  • Battery Health Guarantee: Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%

Do not assume that installing a plan proves coverage. The installation process and the later network-registration process are separate, and a successful QR scan does not guarantee service in every town, building, or rural area within a destination.

Use this order to avoid making the problem worse

  1. Check the destination and confirm you have actually arrived in the covered country or region.
  2. Look in Cellular or SIM settings to see whether the plan is already installed.
  3. Turn on the Maya line and select it as the data SIM.
  4. Enable roaming on Maya and disable roaming on your home line.
  5. If you use Android and have bars but no internet, set the APN to globaldata with blank username and password fields.
  6. Use Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then allow as long as 15 minutes for authentication.
  7. Try manual network selection on iPhone only if automatic selection still fails.
  8. Contact Maya support without deleting the eSIM if the problem continues.

This order matters because reinstalling can obscure whether the plan was already present, and repeated activation attempts can use one of the three activation-code attempts Maya allows on a device.

Prepare a useful support request

If the documented checks fail, submit a request through Maya Mobile support. Preserve the eSIM and include enough detail for the support team to distinguish an account problem from a handset setting or local-coverage issue:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Country, region, and city where you are trying to connect.
  • Phone model, operating-system version, and whether it is an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Pixel, or another Android device.
  • The exact error text, including capitalization.
  • Whether the Maya plan appears in Cellular, Mobile Service, or SIM settings.
  • Whether the line is enabled, roaming is on, and Maya is selected for mobile data.
  • For Android, the APN value and whether username and password are blank.
  • Whether you completed the 30-second Airplane Mode reset and waited 15 minutes.
  • Whether the phone is carrier-unlocked and, on iPhone, what appears under Carrier Lock.

These details are practical troubleshooting guidance; Maya’s error articles and connection guide provide the underlying checks and escalation path. Attach screenshots only after hiding phone numbers, activation codes, and other account credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install a Maya eSIM before I travel?

Yes. Maya says you can install it in advance, but it will not connect until you arrive in the purchased destination or service area.

Should I delete and reinstall the Maya eSIM?

No. Maya explicitly warns not to delete the eSIM during troubleshooting. Check whether it is already installed in Cellular or SIM settings before trying another activation.

Why does my Maya eSIM show bars but no internet?

Make sure Maya is selected as the phone’s mobile-data SIM and that roaming is enabled on the Maya line. On Android, set the APN to globaldata and leave username and password blank.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How long should Maya eSIM activation take?

After switching Airplane Mode on for 30 seconds and back off, Maya advises allowing up to 15 minutes for authentication and 4G LTE or 5G data. This is guidance, not a guaranteed connection time.

What does “Unsupported eSIM” mean on iPhone?

Maya identifies carrier lock as the likely cause. Open Settings > General > About and check Carrier Lock. The unlocked status is “No SIM restrictions”; otherwise, contact the original carrier.

What should I do if I see “Data Plan Cannot be Added”?

Connect to reliable internet, then check Cellular or Mobile Data settings because the plan may have installed in the background. If it appears, enable it and select it for data instead of reinstalling.

Can I use a manual activation code instead of the QR code?

For supported devices, Maya provides a manual activation-code option in your account. Use the device-specific Add eSIM or SIM-manager instructions and keep the phone online.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Why is my home SIM roaming charge risk important?

Leave roaming enabled on Maya, which needs it to use partner networks, but turn roaming off on your primary/home SIM to help avoid unexpected home-carrier roaming charges.

The Bottom Line

Most Maya Mobile eSIM failures come down to being outside the plan’s service area, selecting the wrong data SIM, leaving roaming off, or reinstalling a plan that is already present. Keep the eSIM, verify the line and destination, use globaldata on Android when required, reset Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, and wait up to 15 minutes. If those checks fail, preserve the profile and contact Maya support with the exact error and device details.
