Marvel’s Wolverine launched worldwide on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Developed by Insomniac Games with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, it is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure built around Logan’s adamantium claws, stealth, heightened senses, character upgrades, and a combat Rage state.
The game tells an original Wolverine story rather than adapting one existing film or comic plot. Logan returns to Team X three years after leaving it, while Bolivar Trask kidnaps mutants. The journey moves through the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and Madripoor, with Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Omega Red, and the Reavers among the named characters and enemies.

What kind of game is Marvel’s Wolverine?
Marvel’s Wolverine is a focused, single-player action-adventure. PlayStation describes it as narrative-driven and explicitly says it is not an open-world game. That distinction matters if you are expecting a giant map filled with optional activities. The official classification instead points to a directed campaign in which story progression, combat encounters, stealth opportunities, and exploration are arranged around Logan’s journey.
There is no announced multiplayer mode in the official description. The product is designed for one player and centers on a personal story about Logan’s identity, loyalty, humanity, resilience, and the past he tried to leave behind.

Release date and platforms
The worldwide release date was September 15, 2026. The official PlayStation FAQ lists the game for PS5 and PS5 Pro only. It is not listed for PS4, PC, Xbox, Nintendo hardware, or another platform, so you should not buy it assuming a later cross-platform version has been announced.

What is the story of Marvel’s Wolverine?
The story is an original interpretation of Logan created for this game. Logan believed he had left Wolverine behind, but three years after departing Team X he is drawn back into that world when Bolivar Trask begins kidnapping mutants. The conflict forces Logan to confront his history, his connection to other mutants, and the question of what kind of person he wants to be.
The official story overview names Jean Grey and Sabretooth as recognizable characters. Trask is identified as the force behind the mutant kidnappings, while the broader conflict includes the Reavers and Omega Red. These characters establish the central threat and supporting cast, but the published synopsis does not reveal the ending or every major plot turn.
Where does the campaign take place?
Logan’s route crosses several distinct locations:
- Canada: The Canadian wilderness provides the story’s rugged starting point and reinforces Logan’s connection to isolation and survival.
- Tokyo, Japan: The campaign reaches Tokyo’s streets, adding a dense urban setting that contrasts with the wilderness.
- Madripoor: The fictional island nation brings Logan into a different kind of danger and expands the game’s international scope.
The setting list does not mean the game is one continuous open map. PlayStation’s classification remains a non-open-world, narrative-driven adventure.
Is there a prequel comic?
PlayStation Blog announced a digital prequel comic written by Insomniac narrative director Walt Williams, illustrated by Luke Ross, and featuring a cover by Iban Coello. It sets up Logan’s difficult relationship with Team X and was made available through Marvel Unlimited. The announcement does not state that the comic is required reading, so you can begin the game without treating it as mandatory background material.
How does Wolverine’s combat work?
Combat is built around fast, aggressive melee attacks with Logan’s adamantium claws. Official descriptions also identify stealth, heightened senses, swappable Techniques and Adaptations, and a Rage mechanic. Together, those systems support more than one way to approach an encounter: you can attack directly, stalk targets, ambush enemies, or alter Logan’s build for a particular situation.

Adamantium-claw melee
Logan’s claws are the foundation of his close-range offense. The official description characterizes the combat as fast and fluid, with attacks designed around Wolverine’s distinctive weapons rather than conventional firearms or a broad party system. The published material does not provide frame data, damage figures, or independent performance testing, so those details should not be inferred from promotional language.
Stealth and heightened senses
Logan can use stealth to stalk or ambush enemies. His heightened senses are presented as a gameplay tool, allowing him to perceive threats and opportunities before committing to a fight. The combination is important because it gives the player a deliberate option when charging into every encounter would be risky or inefficient.
Techniques and Adaptations
Techniques and Adaptations are swappable progression elements. The official descriptions indicate that you can change these abilities as Logan develops, letting your setup evolve instead of locking you into one permanent style. The available materials do not publish a complete ability list, exact slot count, or a recommended build, so those choices should be made from the in-game descriptions once you can see their costs and effects.
Rage
Aggressive momentum builds Rage during combat. When the meter is ready, Logan can activate Rage to intensify the encounter. This creates a basic combat rhythm: sustained offense builds a resource, and that resource can be spent when a fight demands a stronger burst of pressure. The official information does not specify the precise duration, damage increase, or recharge rules.

Named threats include Bolivar Trask’s Reavers and Omega Red. Their inclusion indicates that the campaign will not rely on one repeated enemy type, but the official overview does not publish a complete enemy catalogue or encounter-by-encounter breakdown.
How progression and the Deluxe Edition differ
PlayStation lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. Both contain the same core game. Digital Deluxe adds five suits, five claw appearances, and three Technique Points. PlayStation’s June announcement identifies the suits and claws as cosmetic, so these visual items do not change combat capability. The extra Technique Points are the edition’s gameplay-related bonus.
| Edition | What is established officially | Who should consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | Core Marvel’s Wolverine game | Players who want the campaign without additional digital bonuses |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | Core game plus five suits, five claw appearances, and three Technique Points; suits and claws are cosmetic | Players who value cosmetic customization or want the additional Technique Points |

What accessibility and difficulty options are available?
PlayStation lists a broad set of options intended to make the campaign easier to control, read, hear, and physically operate. The exact menu labels and availability can change with updates, so consult the current in-game accessibility menu for the complete list.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Adjustable difficulty: Choose a challenge level that fits your preference.
- Visual options: Adjust visual comfort settings, text size, and color-related options.
- Audio and subtitles: Configure audio behavior and subtitle presentation.
- Motion comfort: Use controls intended to reduce discomfort from camera movement or other visual effects.
- Simplified quick-time events: Reduce the complexity of timed prompts.
- Input accommodations: The Store listing says the game can be played without rapid button presses, simultaneous button presses, controller vibration, or adaptive-trigger effects.
Those settings are particularly relevant if rapid inputs, vibration, trigger resistance, small text, high-contrast scenes, or motion effects create barriers. You do not need to wait until a difficult sequence to look for them; review the accessibility menu before starting the campaign and revisit it whenever your needs change.
What should PS5 and PS5 Pro owners know?
Both PS5 and PS5 Pro are officially supported. The available product information does not establish separate story content, multiplayer features, or a different campaign for the Pro model. Treat the Pro designation as a supported console option, not as a separate edition of the game.
Because no official performance figures are provided in the supplied material, there is no supported frame-rate, resolution, loading-time, or visual-quality claim to use when choosing between the consoles. Confirm any current technical mode information on the live store page or console documentation if those details matter to your purchase.
What the official information does—and does not—confirm
The confirmed picture is specific: a PS5-only, single-player, non-open-world adventure; an original Logan story; locations in Canada, Tokyo, and Madripoor; claw combat supported by stealth and heightened senses; swappable Techniques and Adaptations; Rage; and a published set of difficulty and accessibility controls.

It does not establish a PC or Xbox release, a multiplayer mode, a full mission count, campaign length, ending details, review scores, sales results, performance benchmarks, or a complete ability tree. Avoid treating any of those unconfirmed details as part of the game’s specification.
Is Marvel’s Wolverine worth considering?
For a PS5 owner seeking a story-focused superhero game played entirely as Wolverine, the official feature set is clear. You get a directed campaign rather than an open-world map, an original story centered on Logan and mutant survival, and combat that combines direct claw attacks with stealth, senses, customizable progression, and Rage. The Standard and Digital Deluxe editions contain the same core adventure, while Deluxe adds cosmetics and three Technique Points.
The most practical decision is therefore about platform, format, and extras: you need a PS5 or PS5 Pro; you should prefer the Standard Edition if cosmetics and bonus points do not matter; and you should review the accessibility settings before play if input, motion, audio, or visual accommodations are important to you.
