Choose Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls if you want Marvel characters, four-character teams, assists and team synergy, and you can play on PS5 or PC. Choose Street Fighter 6 if you need PS4 or Xbox Series X|S support, or you want Capcom’s game that launched in 2023 rather than a newer 2026 release.
Those are practical distinctions, not proof that one game is universally better. Current official information confirms Tōkon’s 4v4 format, launch roster size, control options and offline modes, while the cited Capcom material confirms Street Fighter 6’s release date and platform coverage but does not establish a current feature-by-feature comparison.
The short answer
| If this sounds like you | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want Marvel heroes, team building and assists | Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls | It is built around four-character teams, synergies and tag-team play. |
| You own a PS4 | Street Fighter 6 | Capcom lists Street Fighter 6 for PS4; Tōkon is listed for PS5 and PC. |
| You own an Xbox Series X|S | Street Fighter 6 | Capcom lists Xbox Series X|S support. Tōkon’s official platform list does not include Xbox. |
| You want to play on PC | Either | Tōkon is available through Steam and Epic; Street Fighter 6 is also listed for PC. |
| You want an offline story, local matches and training in the newer game | Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls | Its FAQ specifically lists Episode Mode, local Versus and Training Mode offline. |
| You need a decision based on competitive balance, player population or current value | Do not decide from this comparison alone | No reliable current comparative figures or equivalent feature data are established here. |
The most important fork is therefore platform first, then format. If your hardware rules out Tōkon, Street Fighter 6 is the straightforward choice. If both games are available, decide whether a Marvel-focused 4v4 team fighter matches how you want to play.
What is different about the two games?
Marvel Tōkon is a team-composition fighter
PlayStation describes MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as a 4v4 tag-team fighting game. You assemble a team of four characters, call on assists and look for synergies between members. That changes the central question from “Which single character do I want to master?” to “Which four-character lineup gives me the tools and interactions I enjoy?”

The game has 20 characters at launch, according to the official PlayStation page. That number describes the launch roster, not a promise about later additions or the amount of content in any particular edition. The team structure means the roster count is only one part of the choice: your interest in experimenting with combinations matters as much as the number of individual characters.
Street Fighter 6 is the established alternative for broader hardware access
Capcom’s official investor-relations document identifies Street Fighter 6 as a fighting game released on June 2, 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC. That makes it the practical option for players on PS4 or Xbox Series X|S, where Tōkon is not officially listed.
The cited Capcom document does not provide a current breakdown of Street Fighter 6’s input options, edition contents, accessibility functions, mode lineup, roster or online-subscription requirements. Those details can change by platform and edition, so they should be checked on the live platform listing before purchase. They are not safe grounds for declaring either game superior.

Platform and cross-play decision
| Platform question | Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls | Street Fighter 6 |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Yes; official FAQ lists PS5. | Yes; Capcom lists PS5. |
| PlayStation 4 | Not listed in the official FAQ. | Yes; Capcom lists PS4. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Not listed in the official FAQ. | Yes; Capcom lists Xbox Series X|S. |
| PC | Yes; the FAQ lists PC, including Steam and Epic. | Yes; Capcom lists PC. |
| Cross-play | PlayStation’s page describes cross-play. | Not stated in the cited Capcom document. |
Tōkon’s platform boundary is important: do not buy it expecting a PS4 or Xbox version. The official FAQ says it released August 6, 2026 at 3:00 PM UTC and is available on PS5 and PC. If your household uses different platforms, confirm the current cross-play behavior and account requirements before assuming everyone can join the same match; the official PlayStation description does identify cross-play as a feature.
Controls and the beginner question
What Tōkon officially offers
PlayStation says Tōkon supports traditional inputs and quick inputs, along with easy chain combos. Inputs can be customized, and any PS5-compatible arcade stick or leverless controller can be used. These options give a new player more than one way to begin: a quick-input scheme can reduce the barrier to executing moves, while traditional inputs remain available for players who prefer them.
“Easy chain combos” should be read as an accessibility feature, not as a guarantee that advanced play will be simple. A team fighter still asks you to understand assists, tags, timing and team composition. The useful beginner advantage is that you can start performing actions before mastering every conventional input.

What cannot be fairly claimed about Street Fighter 6
The available Capcom material does not establish an equivalent, current description of Street Fighter 6’s input schemes or combo assistance. It would therefore be inaccurate to label Street Fighter 6 harder, easier or better for beginners on the basis of unverified assumptions.

Offline, local and online play in Tōkon
Offline modes
The official Tōkon FAQ lists several activities that do not require an online match:
- Episode Mode
- Local Versus
- Training Mode
- All-Star Arena
- Battle Guides
- Character Guides
This is a useful package for a player who wants a story-driven introduction, practice tools or same-system matches. The FAQ specifically identifies Episode Mode as offline, so you should not need an internet connection simply to access that mode.
Online modes and accounts
Online Lobby, private rooms, ranked matches and casual matches require internet access and an account. On PS5, online play requires PlayStation Plus. On PC, online play requires a PlayStation account and an internet connection. These requirements apply to online modes; they do not turn the offline modes listed above into online-only activities.
Because Tōkon supports cross-play according to PlayStation’s page, friends may be able to play across supported systems. Check the account and platform prompts shown by the current version before scheduling a session, especially when one player is on PS5 and another is on PC.

Which game suits different kinds of players?
Marvel fans who want their fandom inside the match
Tōkon is the direct choice when recognizable Marvel characters are a primary reason to play. The license is not merely a cosmetic theme: the four-character structure makes character selection and team identity part of the game’s core loop. You can choose a lineup because you enjoy the characters, because their assists complement one another, or for a mixture of both.
Street Fighter 6 is not a substitute for that Marvel-specific appeal. Choose it only if you are happy for the game’s own fighting-game identity and platform availability to matter more than Marvel characters.
Players who enjoy team construction
Pick Tōkon if the prospect of building and revising a four-character squad sounds exciting. The official description emphasizes team composition and synergies, so experimentation is a central reason to return to the game. This is especially relevant if you like testing how one character’s assist changes another character’s options.

Treat that preference as a reason to investigate the current Capcom listing, not as proof that one title is objectively easier.
Players with older or mixed hardware
Street Fighter 6 wins this decision by availability. Its confirmed PS4 and Xbox Series X|S versions make it usable on systems that Tōkon does not list. A PS5 or PC owner can choose either, but a PS4 or Xbox Series X|S owner has a clear answer unless platform plans change.
Players who want a newer release
Tōkon’s official release time was August 6, 2026 at 3:00 PM UTC. Street Fighter 6 launched on June 2, 2023. Release date alone does not measure quality, balance or community health, but it does explain the generational difference: Tōkon is the newer title, while Street Fighter 6 has been available since 2023.

Language and accessibility features confirmed for Tōkon
The Tōkon FAQ says text-to-speech is available for all 17 supported languages. On PS5, platform settings provide additional button remapping and Access Controller support. These are concrete reasons to inspect Tōkon’s settings if remapping, speech support or adaptive control is important to you.

Controller choice
A standard gamepad is the normal starting point; an arcade stick or leverless controller is optional. PlayStation confirms compatibility with any PS5-compatible arcade stick or leverless controller. No particular model is identified as best, and the game does not require one of these devices.
Modes and learning path for a new Tōkon player
- Start with a Character Guide. Use the built-in guide to learn what each character is intended to do before choosing a four-person team.
- Try Episode Mode offline. This gives you a way to become familiar with the cast and controls without entering online matches.
- Practice in Training Mode. Test traditional and quick inputs, customize buttons and repeat the easy chain combos until the controls feel reliable.
- Build a provisional team. Choose four characters you genuinely want to use, then look for assists and synergies rather than trying to optimize everything immediately.
- Play Local Versus. Local matches let you learn the tag-team rhythm without the connection and subscription requirements of PS5 online play.
- Move to casual or private online play. Once you are comfortable, use casual matches or a private room. Ranked play can wait until you understand your team’s basic options.
This sequence uses only the modes and tools named in the official FAQ. It also prevents a common mistake: treating a four-character game as if you must fully master four separate characters before playing. Begin with a workable team, then deepen your understanding one member at a time.

Developer and publisher context
The Steam listing names Arc System Works as developer and PlayStation Publishing LLC as publisher. That information identifies the teams credited on the PC store page; it does not by itself establish performance, balance quality or long-term support.
Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine described the design goal this way in the February 12, 2026 PlayStation.Blog announcement: “From the beginning, we aimed to make MARVEL TōKON: Fighting Souls a title that could be enjoyed by a wide variety of players.” The documented quick inputs, chain combos, guides and offline modes are consistent with that stated aim, while the quote should not be treated as a guarantee that every player will find the game easy.
What is not a reliable tie-breaker
- Player counts: No independent current figure establishes which game has the larger active population.
- Sales: No comparable sales result is established for this decision.
- Review scores: A score from one outlet or one date would not answer your platform and format needs.
- Competitive balance: There is no verified comparative balance analysis in the available official material.
- Roster value: Tōkon’s 20-character launch count is a product specification, not proof that its roster is better value than Street Fighter 6’s.
Use those subjects only after checking current, platform-specific information yourself. For the decision this article can support, hardware, team format, controls and offline requirements are more dependable.
A practical decision checklist
Answer these questions in order:
- Where will you play? If the answer is PS4 or Xbox Series X|S, choose Street Fighter 6. If it is PS5 or PC, continue.
- Do you want Marvel characters to be central to the experience? If yes, choose Tōkon.
- Does a four-character team with assists and synergies appeal to you? If yes, choose Tōkon; if that sounds like unwanted complexity, inspect Street Fighter 6’s current official feature page before buying.
- Do you need offline story, local Versus and Training Mode documented in advance? Tōkon’s FAQ confirms all three.
- Will you play online on PS5? Include the PlayStation Plus requirement in your setup decision.
- Are you choosing a Deluxe or Ultimate edition? Treat the 2026 MSRP announcement as historical and verify the live storefront contents and price.
Final recommendation
Play Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls when the combination of Marvel characters, 4v4 team composition, assists, synergies, quick or traditional inputs and documented offline modes is what you want—and you have a PS5 or PC. Its official FAQ and PlayStation page provide a clear picture of that experience, including the August 6, 2026 release, 20-character launch roster, local play and cross-play description.
Play Street Fighter 6 when PS4 or Xbox Series X|S support decides the issue, or when you specifically prefer Capcom’s game released on June 2, 2023. The available Capcom documentation confirms its wider platform reach, but not enough current feature detail to justify claims about superior controls, modes, roster, value or beginner-friendliness.
In other words: choose by platform first, then by whether you want a Marvel-centered 4v4 team fighter. That conditional answer is more defensible than calling either game the universal winner.
