MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite are team-based fighting games with different foundations. Tōkon uses four-character Marvel teams and is built around an original Marvel story, while Infinite uses 2v2 teams that combine Marvel and Capcom characters and adds a selectable Infinity Stone to every match. Those differences affect how you read each game’s roster, modes and platform availability.
The official descriptions do not establish which game is better balanced, faster, easier to execute or more competitive. This comparison sticks to the features that are documented, then explains what those facts mean when you are deciding which game fits your interests.
Quick comparison
| Question | MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls | Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite |
|---|---|---|
| Team format | Four-character team format, according to the official game materials. | Free-form 2v2 team battles. |
| Character universes | Marvel characters in an original Marvel story. | Characters selected from both Marvel and Capcom. |
| Signature system identified in the official description | The cited materials confirm the four-character format and a broad set of modes, but do not provide a complete mechanic-by-mechanic explanation. | Choose one of six Infinity Stones; the selected Stone changes character abilities and can affect the battle. |
| Offline content listed | Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides and Character Guides. | Story, Arcade, Training and Mission modes. |
| Online content listed | Online play is described on the PlayStation product page; the FAQ provides a server-start time. | Ranked and casual matches, global leaderboards, online lobbies and spectator mode. |
| Platforms in the cited information | PS5 and PC, with an announced August 6, 2026 release. | Capcom’s current catalog lists a Steam product; regional availability should be checked before purchase. |
The short version is that these are not two versions of the same team structure. Tōkon’s central question is how a four-character Marvel squad works. Infinite’s is how a Marvel-and-Capcom pair works when an Infinity Stone is added to the match.
What is MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls?

The defining structural fact is the four-character team format. That tells you how the game organizes a squad, but it does not, by itself, answer how many characters are simultaneously visible, how tagging works, how assists are triggered or how a round is won. The cited official material does not supply those implementation details, so it is more accurate to call Tōkon a four-character team fighter than to label it a conventional “4v4” battle.
A Marvel-only setting
Tōkon is presented as an original Marvel story rather than a crossover between Marvel and another publisher’s universe. The result is a different identity from Infinite: you are choosing among Marvel characters inside one Marvel narrative framework, not pairing a Marvel fighter with a Capcom fighter.
Officially listed modes
The game’s official FAQ lists Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides and Character Guides as offline content. The PlayStation description also refers to fighting CPU opponents and playing online. Together, those descriptions indicate that Tōkon is intended to support solo learning, local matches and online competition, not only direct head-to-head play.

What is Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite?
Capcom’s product listing describes Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite as a 2017 crossover fighting game built around free-form 2v2 team battles. Each team combines characters from Marvel and Capcom, giving the game a crossover premise that is structurally different from Tōkon’s Marvel-only cast.

The Infinity Stone choice
Before a match, players select one of six Infinity Stones. Capcom’s description says the selected Stone changes characters’ abilities and can affect the battle. That is the clearest signature mechanic in the cited material. It means team selection is not the only major choice: the Stone is another layer that can shape what a team can do.
The description does not provide enough information to rank the Stones, explain their exact effects or conclude that the system makes Infinite more or less balanced. Those questions require current game documentation or hands-on testing. What can be stated confidently is that the Stone choice is part of Infinite’s advertised match identity.

Capcom lists a cinematic Story Mode involving Ultron Sigma, along with Arcade, Training and Mission modes. Is MARVEL Tōkon 4v4?
It is described as a four-character team fighter, not explicitly as a simultaneous 4v4 match. “Four-character team” identifies the number of characters selected for a side. “4v4” usually suggests that four fighters from each side are active in the arena at once, which is a more specific claim than the official Tōkon descriptions support.
If you are comparing team size, use this wording: Tōkon uses four-character teams, while Infinite uses 2v2 teams. Do not infer tag order, assist behavior, active-fighter count or round rules until the game’s detailed battle documentation confirms them.

How the team structures differ
Tōkon: four selections within one Marvel universe
Choosing four characters gives Tōkon a larger team-selection unit than Infinite’s two-character format. The official sources do not state whether every selected character has the same role, whether characters can be called as assists, or whether the game uses a fixed sequence. Therefore, the reliable comparison is about team size and roster identity rather than unverified strategy claims.
For a reader deciding whether the format appeals to them, the practical distinction is simple: Tōkon asks you to build a four-character Marvel lineup. That may matter if you want to experiment with more character combinations on one team, but the cited descriptions do not establish how much additional complexity that creates in a match.
Infinite: a Marvel-and-Capcom pair
Infinite’s 2v2 structure limits each team to two selected fighters and makes the crossover pairing explicit. You select a Marvel character, a Capcom character or another combination permitted by the game, then choose an Infinity Stone. The official listing calls the battles “free-form,” but it does not define every tag, assist or timing rule in the supplied information.
That means the most defensible comparison is not “four characters is deeper” or “two characters is easier.” It is that the games place different demands on roster selection: four Marvel choices in Tōkon versus a two-character Marvel/Capcom team plus a Stone in Infinite.
Signature mechanics: what is confirmed and what is not
Infinite’s six Infinity Stones
Infinite’s Stone system is directly documented by Capcom. You select one of six Stones, and the chosen Stone changes character abilities and can influence the fight. This is a match-defining decision that sits alongside character selection.

The official listing supplied here does not identify each Stone’s exact effect, duration, meter interaction or competitive ranking. Avoid treating any Stone as universally best or claiming that the system guarantees balance. Those are separate questions from whether the mechanic exists.
Tōkon’s stated accessibility goal
In a 2025 PlayStation announcement, Kazuto Sekine, the game director and lead battle designer, said: “From the beginning, we aimed to make MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls a title that could be enjoyed by a wide variety of players.” The announcement also describes controls and mechanics as easy to pick up while retaining depth and versatility for high-level competition.
Those words are developer design goals, not independent measurements of accessibility or competitive depth. They explain the intended direction of Tōkon, but they cannot establish how easy the released game is to learn, how demanding advanced play becomes or how its balance compares with Infinite. The statement appears in PlayStation’s Tōkon launch announcement.
Modes and activities outside versus matches
| Activity | Tōkon | Infinite |
|---|---|---|
| Story content | Original story; the FAQ lists Episode Mode. | Cinematic Story Mode involving Ultron Sigma. |
| Arcade-style play | All-Star Arena is listed in the FAQ. | Arcade mode is listed by Capcom. |
| Training | Training Mode plus Battle Guides and Character Guides. | Training Mode plus Mission mode. |
| Local multiplayer | Local Versus is listed in the FAQ. | The cited listing names online and solo modes but does not separately specify local-versus features. |
| Online matchmaking | Online play is described by PlayStation; current service details should be checked in the FAQ. | Ranked and casual matches are listed. |
| Online community tools | Not specified in the cited materials beyond online play. | Global leaderboards and lobbies with spectator mode are listed. |
If you want a guided solo path
Tōkon’s Episode Mode, Battle Guides and Character Guides are the clearest documented tools for learning and solo progression. Infinite instead explicitly names Story, Arcade, Training and Mission modes. Neither list proves which game teaches fundamentals more effectively; it only shows that the two publishers describe their offline content differently.

If you want local matches
Tōkon’s FAQ explicitly lists local Versus. The supplied Infinite listing does not separately identify a local-versus mode, so no direct equivalence should be claimed from that listing alone. Check the game’s current in-product menu and regional edition details if couch play is a deciding factor.

If you want ranked play and spectators
Infinite’s official description specifically names ranked and casual online matches, leaderboards and spectator-enabled lobbies. Tōkon’s PlayStation materials mention online play, while the FAQ focuses on server timing and offline content. The sources therefore support a difference in what is advertised, not a conclusion about which online community is larger or more active.

Tōkon on PS5 and PC
PlayStation announced MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls for PS5 and PC with an August 6, 2026 release date. The platform statement is attached to the official announcement and should not be broadened to other consoles without a separate confirmation. The FAQ’s server schedule is also tied to that launch date, so verify current account, network and regional requirements before starting online play.

Which game fits which reader?
| Your priority | Better documented fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A Marvel-only cast and story | Tōkon | Its official description presents an original Marvel story and Marvel characters. |
| A Marvel-and-Capcom crossover | Infinite | Its 2v2 teams pair characters from the two universes. |
| Four-character team selection | Tōkon | The official materials identify a four-character team format. |
| A documented pre-match ability choice | Infinite | Players select one of six Infinity Stones that changes abilities. |
| PS5 play | Tōkon | PS5 is named in the announced platform list. |
| Steam availability | Infinite | Capcom’s current catalog lists a Steam product. |
| Explicit ranked, casual and spectator features | Infinite | Capcom lists all three categories. |
| Listed character-focused learning aids | Tōkon | The FAQ names Battle Guides and Character Guides. |
This table is a decision aid based on advertised features, not a quality ranking. A preference for four-character teams does not prove that Tōkon has greater strategic depth, and a preference for Infinity Stones does not prove that Infinite is more competitive.
What the official descriptions do not prove
A careful comparison should leave several popular claims unanswered until stronger evidence is available:
- There is no comparable published statistic here for roster size, sales, review scores, player counts or performance.
- The cited descriptions do not establish which game is more balanced.
- They do not establish relative match speed, execution difficulty, input complexity or learning curve.
- They do not show which online service currently has more players, lower latency or better reliability.
- They do not provide a complete mechanical breakdown of Tōkon’s four-character battles.
- They do not provide the exact effects or competitive value of each Infinity Stone.
Keeping those limits visible prevents a feature comparison from turning product descriptions into unsupported competitive judgments. Hands-on testing or independent, current analysis would be needed for those questions.
How to verify the details before you buy or play
- For Tōkon’s platforms and release information, read the PlayStation announcement.
- For Tōkon’s listed offline modes and server timing, consult the official FAQ. Server schedules and account requirements are volatile.
- For Tōkon’s stated control and accessibility goals, see the developer statement published by PlayStation.
- For Infinite’s team format, Infinity Stones and mode list, use Capcom’s product page.
- For the current Steam catalog entry and regional storefront choices, check Capcom’s catalog directly.
These checks matter because platform listings, online services and regional purchase options can change after an announcement. They also keep the comparison tied to the edition and region you actually intend to use.
