If Marvel Rivals stopped launching after you removed a mod, treat the installation as modified until you have removed every loader and residual file, then run your platform’s file-verification tool. On Steam, the repair path is Library > Marvel Rivals > Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files. Epic and Loading Bay provide equivalent verification commands. If the game still closes, restart Windows, update Windows and your graphics driver, disable non-essential overlays, check antivirus quarantine, and send the official diagnostic archive to support.
Why removing a mod can stop Marvel Rivals from launching
A mod is not always limited to the visible texture, model, or configuration you intended to remove. Mod loaders, injected DLLs, .asi plugins, custom textures, skin changers, and altered game-content files can remain in the installation directory after the main mod folder is deleted. The result can be a missing dependency, an altered official file, or an anti-cheat conflict during startup.
File verification repairs missing or changed official files, but it does not necessarily remove every third-party loader or injector. That is why the reliable order is:

- Close the game, launcher, mod manager, and injector completely.
- Remove residual mod files and loaders.
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the installation through Steam, Epic, or Loading Bay.
- Launch without any mods, overlays, or injectors.
NetEase’s notice dated October 15, 2026 specifically warns players to delete violating .asi files, including pystubber.asi and MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi, along with related game-content modifications. Do not replace them with another loader or an anti-cheat bypass. NetEase says modification and memory-injection behavior can resemble cheat-engine activity, which may trigger anti-cheat action or penalties.

Step 1: Fully close Marvel Rivals and every related process
Do not begin verification while a launcher or injector still has files open. A process that remains in memory can restore a modified file, lock it against replacement, or inject into the next launch.
- Exit Marvel Rivals from its in-game menu if it is still visible.
- Quit Steam, Epic Games, or Loading Bay from the launcher menu rather than only closing the window.
- Close the mod manager, texture tool, skin changer, injector, or overlay that you used with the game.
- Open Windows Task Manager and end any remaining Marvel Rivals, launcher, or mod-related process that you recognize.
- Restart Windows before the first clean launch attempt. Steam’s launch guidance recommends a fresh restart when troubleshooting a game that will not start.
If the game is stuck on a black screen or closes too quickly to reach a menu, the restart is still useful: it clears injected modules and pending file locks before cleanup.
Step 2: Remove residual mods, loaders, and injected files
Open the Marvel Rivals installation folder using the launcher’s “Browse local files” or equivalent option. Remove files that belong to the mod you installed, including its loader, injected DLLs, .asi plugins, custom texture packages, and altered content directories. Do not delete the entire installation at this stage unless you are following the Loading Bay reinstall procedure described later.

Files that deserve special attention
pystubber.asiMarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi- Other
.asifiles added by a mod or loader - Injected DLLs or launcher components supplied by the mod
- Custom textures, skin-changing files, and other modified game-content files
Those two named files are examples in NetEase’s October 15, 2026 notice, not a complete list of every possible violating file. If you are unsure whether a file is official, do not download a replacement or rename it to bypass detection. Record its name and let the platform verification process restore the official version where possible.

What not to use as a “fix”
Do not install a new mod loader, anti-cheat bypass, memory injector, or “unlocker” to make the game start. A workaround that changes the executable or injects code can create the same launch failure and may expose the account to anti-cheat penalties. The clean test is an unmodified installation launched through the normal platform client.
Step 3: Verify the game files on your platform
Verification compares the installed files with the platform’s known-good copies and downloads missing or corrupted files automatically. It is the correct repair after removing a file-modifying mod, but it cannot make an unauthorized loader safe; remove that software first.

Steam: exact repair procedure
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Marvel Rivals and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Click Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- Wait for the process to finish. Do not launch the game while Steam is still checking or downloading.
- When Steam reports completion, start Marvel Rivals with the mod manager and injectors still closed.
Steam notes that corruption in extracted game files is a common reason a game will not launch. Verification is therefore useful even when the removed mod appeared to be the only change.
Epic Games: exact repair procedure
- Open the Epic Games launcher and select Library.
- Find Marvel Rivals, open its three-dot menu, and choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Let the scan and any replacement downloads complete before launching.
- Test the game with all third-party modification tools closed.
Loading Bay: verification and reinstall fallback
Run Verify File Integrity from Loading Bay first. If the launcher installation path itself is damaged and verification cannot complete, the official FAQ says a complete deletion and reinstall of Marvel Rivals and Loading Bay files may be required. Use that as a last resort because it removes the local installation and requires the game to be downloaded again.

Step 4: Check launch blockers that verification does not repair
If Marvel Rivals still closes after a clean verification, work through the system checks below. Change one category at a time so you can identify what resolved the failure.
Install Windows and graphics-driver updates
Run Windows Update, restart, and install the current driver offered by your GPU manufacturer for your graphics hardware. Steam’s launch guidance lists both operating-system and driver updates among the first checks for games that fail to start. A driver update is especially relevant if the crash began after a game or Windows update rather than immediately after mod removal.
Disable non-essential overlays and background software
Temporarily disable non-essential overlays, capture tools, performance monitors, RGB utilities, and other background programs that hook into games. Leave your normal security software active unless its own troubleshooting instructions tell you otherwise. Once Marvel Rivals launches reliably, re-enable background tools one at a time to identify a conflict.

Check antivirus quarantine
If Steam reports a missing executable or the launcher says a file is absent immediately after verification, inspect your antivirus quarantine and protection history. Steam identifies antivirus quarantine, corrupted files, and failed downloads as possible causes of missing game files.

Restore a quarantined file only when you trust the file and it came from the official game installation. Do not restore a mod loader, injector, or bypass component merely because it makes the game start. If the antivirus repeatedly removes an official file, update the security definitions, run verification again, and consult the security product’s documented exception process rather than disabling protection broadly.
Confirm the basic system requirements
Check that the PC still meets Marvel Rivals’ published system requirements, including available storage and a supported graphics driver. A mod can make a previously stable setup fail by increasing the amount of content loaded at startup, but a Windows or driver change can also expose an existing hardware or software limitation.
Remove other file-modifying software
If you previously used custom textures, skin changers, or any other software that edits the game directory, remove it, restart Windows, and verify the files again. Steam specifically advises this sequence for file-modifying software. A second utility can leave behind files even when the original mod has been uninstalled.
Use the failure symptom to choose the next check

Step 5: Create the official diagnostic archive
When cleanup, verification, and system checks do not resolve the launch failure, collect diagnostics before contacting support. The diagnostic utility can give support information that a screenshot or a short crash description cannot.

- Close Marvel Rivals and keep it closed.
- Open the game’s installation directory.
- Run
client_diagnose.exe. - Click Analyze and wait for the utility to finish.
- Locate the generated archive named in the pattern
diagnose_yyyy_mm_dd_xx_xx_xx.zip. - Attach that ZIP when contacting Marvel Rivals support.
Do not launch the game while the diagnostic tool is collecting data unless the official utility explicitly asks you to do so. Keeping the failed state closed makes the resulting logs easier for support to interpret.
What to include when contacting support
Steam lists the official Marvel Rivals support address as marvel_rivals@global.netease.com. Include concise, reproducible details:
- Your platform: Steam, Epic, or Loading Bay.
- The exact point of failure: no response, black screen, immediate close, or a specific error.
- Which mod, loader, texture tool, or skin changer was removed.
- Whether you deleted residual
.asi, DLL, and content files. - Whether verification replaced files and whether it completed successfully.
- Your Windows and graphics-driver update status.
- Whether antivirus quarantined an executable or game file.
- The
diagnose_yyyy_mm_dd_xx_xx_xx.ziparchive fromclient_diagnose.exe.
Describe what changed immediately before the failure and avoid attaching unofficial loaders or bypass tools. Support needs the clean, unmodified state and the diagnostic archive to distinguish installation corruption from a system or account issue.
When a complete reinstall is justified
A reinstall is not the first choice for a normal post-mod launch failure: removing residual files and verifying the installation usually addresses altered or missing game content. Consider a complete reinstall when Loading Bay’s installation path is itself broken, verification repeatedly fails, or the launcher cannot reliably download or replace files.
- Close Marvel Rivals, Loading Bay, and any related process.
- Remove the Marvel Rivals and Loading Bay files as directed by the official FAQ.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Loading Bay again from its official distribution.
- Install Marvel Rivals, allow all downloads to finish, and launch without modifications.
Keep enough free storage for the full download and avoid interrupting the installation. After reinstalling, do not restore old mod folders or loaders until the unmodified game has completed a successful launch.
How to prevent the same failure after future mod use
- Keep a backup of the original installation or use a mod method that leaves official files untouched.
- Record every file and loader a mod adds so removal is complete.
- Do not mix multiple loaders, injectors, or anti-cheat workarounds.
- Before reporting a game bug, reproduce it once with a clean installation.
- After removing a file-modifying mod, restart Windows and verify the files before playing online.
The safest final test is a normal launch from your platform client with no .asi plugins, injected DLLs, custom textures, skin changers, overlays, or bypass tools active.
